It's India's 76th Republic Day, and we cannot help but think about what this day means to Indians all around the world. And thus, without further ado, let's explore the meaning of this important day in Indian history.
On August 15, 1947, India gained its independence, but was still under British dominion, with George VI as Head of the State and Earl Mountbatten as the Governor-General. The rules and legislations followed by India were also based on the modified Colonial Government of India Act framed in 1935.
A few weeks later, on August 29, 1947, the Constitution Drafting Committee was introduced so that they could write India's constitution under the guidance of the first Law Minister of Independent India Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
The Constitution, Purna Swaraj, was adopted on November 26, 1949, however, it came into power on January 26, 1950. The Indian National Congress and other parties used to celebrate that day as a mark of respect to millions of Indian soldiers who fought for freedom.
Republic Day is celebrated with large parades, marching along the streets and flying the Indian flag. In New Delhi, the President of India hoists the flag on Rajpath and accepts the military parade's salute.
The parades are diverse in nature, representing the various states and cultural heritage of India with folk dances, tableaus, and military displays. Everyone takes part in these parades from schoolchildren to paramilitary groups to the Indian armed forces to dance groups.
The Crazy Creatives wishes everyone a very happy Republic Day. As Lata Mangeshkarji sang
Ae mere watan ke logo
Zara aankh main bhar lo paani
Jo shaheed hue hain unki
Zara yaad karo qurbani
