We like to say that TV is an idiot box. Especially Indian tv, oh we can't mention it to anyone. Too many repetitive storylines, too many years stretching endlessly, too many butchered character graphs and unrealistic tracks. There are better options, and we go for it. Korean, American, Thai...the latest Turkish craze. . .

And yet, we are drawn to our TV. When Colors TV started rolling out promos for a new show Swaragini, scheduled for 2nd March 2015, pretty sure collective groans across the country could be heard. Great, another sisters story. How many times have we watched a show of that theme? Coming from The Rashmi Sharma, who has a similar show ongoing on a rival GEC. What was new? One sister looked outspoken, dressed in western clothes, another looked typical Indian sanskaari girl clad in salwar. Same old trope, nothing new.

And like the hopeless viewers we are who had already made up our mind, we started watching it. (Ok gross generalizing there but some of us had) And boy, were they delighted to find out something different in the same old story? And did someone mention Music?

Rest was history.

Swaragini - Jodein Rishton ke Sur - is a Musical journey of life, where our nature are the instruments and how we behave with that nature sets up the music of our lives. The story takes us to the beautiful city of Kolkata, in the alleys full of old world charm and people from different cast and creed mixing effortlessly. We were introduced to two young girls, at the door of youth who lived under same roof since childhood but alway witnessed rifts between their families, their only solace remaining in the Music which binds them together. While one is wisecracker, fiesty, hold-no-barrier kind, the other was timid, shy and soft. Like Fire and Ice, which reflected in their choice of instrument as well, Guitar and Sitar respectively. A combo of rocking, electrifying music and soothing, classical melody, representing the ups and downs of life itself.

Unlike other shows where outgoing and rebel, modern Female lead automatically means a Vamp who cares for none but herself, this show proved to be a welcome relief. The leads were characterised differently; one is bold, intelligent, modern, deprived of fatherly love and kind at heart, the other who is sweet, innocent, family oriented girl. But both loved their family more than themselves, respectful of elders and belonged to the "Good ones". The only difference they had was the complete different POVs about life.

.
Swara being a bengali modern Y generation girl who is courageous enough to take a stand for family and herself when the tme comes, values her self-worth and self-respect, and always fair for everyone be it family or outsider. The only spot in this picture perfect life is being deprived of a Father's affection and being blamed by society for not having a Paternal figure in her family.

Ragini a traditional Marwari girl born and brought in a conservative marwari family of Kolkata. Her friend- philosopher-mentor is her Grandmother who is a dominant figure in her life and a Father who spoils her rotten. She never hesitates to give a nod to their orders and decisions for her. She has a complete family and society tag of a "Good Girl" but she always craved for a Mother's affection, who was snatched from her at a tender age.

Destiny brought these two together when they clashed at a college compeition for the first time in a "Jugalbandi" of music. Due to family issues they never gave their friendship a chance but deep down inside they do feel an inner connection with each other which always lands them together in any place.

The story of Swaragini is about psychology, human nature and their conflicts between sub-conscious and conscious mind.

Its a story of Wrong and being wronged. It's a story of crime and justice.

A story of endless Love who's definition is different for two people.

A story of Deception, Betrayal, Lie, Backstabbing and also a story of Undying Support, True Friendship, Sacrifice, Trust, Soulmates, finding True Love, Endless wait and Acceptance.

A story of two sisters, the two halves of a soul.

This is Swaragini for all of us, a story of life's Sargam.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni . . . all the seven tunes are there.

They say that a mother's love is kindled in her womb, just as a father's love is kindled in his heart. But very rarely, one comes across a wonderful, empathetic, giving soul like Sharmishta, who is able to love two daughters equally---one born of her womb, for whom she is the mother of the flesh; and another, for whom she is mother by love; as well as for her new baby, her infant son with Shekar.

For Swara, Shomi was the only parent for much of her young life. Her love was a divine gift to Swara, wrapping her in a warm cocoon of comfort and strength. Shomi always put Swara's needs, happiness and well being before her own, and imbued her with a fierce resolve to always do the right thing---not matter how hard that course might be. Swara was, literally, a vital part of Shomi's heart, beating forever outside her own chest.

For Ragini, Shomi was that one person who could be relied upon to tell the complete, unvarnished truth. She loves Ragini unconditionally, despite all her criminal misdemeanors and sins against Swara and Shomi herself. She never wanted to force Ragini to measure up to something, but just wanted to set her feet on the right path.

In many ways, Shomi is the personification of what an ideal mother would be like--possessing a beautiful heart and soul, soft and tender and giving; and yet, tempered with a spine of steel. Her strength of character and indomitable will, are invaluable to both her daughters. And now, she is sure to inculcate that strength and values in her son as well.

The only somewhat weak chink in Shomi's otherwise wonderful nature, was in her willingness to repeatedly take obnoxious behavior from both Dadi and Shekar, and turn the other cheek, time and again. She was, to be frank, too good for Shekar for the predominant part of show; he let her down time and time and time again.

However, hopefully now that Shomi and Shekar have settled down into a life of happy matrimony, a bond of mutual love and respect; she will expect, demand and ensure that her husband gives her that much needed value and faith. She deserves no less.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

When one thinks of Shekar as a father, what he meant to Swara and to Ragini, one is instantly reminded of the old saying "Any man can become a father, but it takes someone really special to be a Dad."

Shekar was an essentially good natured man, who really had an innate capacity for warmth and affection. But where he did come up short, where he massively failed Swara, and in a sense, Ragini too, was in his lack of spine, lack of conviction.

A true father is always there. He is the one who instantly adores his infant daughter from the moment he lays eyes on her. He is there with arms ready to catch her when she takes her first steps or stumbles. He is there to teach her and tease her and laugh with her; to approve, disapprove, accept and forgive. And the greatest gift he could give his daughter, is to believe in her.

Shekar, unfortunately, could not be this figure for Swara. And even for Ragini, he more or less took a backseat in her upbringing, mostly letting his dictatorial, close minded mother tend to his daughter.

Perhaps, his own guilt at his betrayal of Shomi, and his inability to truly love Janaki, contributed to this. One hopes, that now Shomi and he have embarked on a loving, happy married life; he would be able to discharge his responsibilities as a father much better, too---towards Swara, Ragini, as well his infant son. He needs to actually show the love he is capable of, and as an example for his children, he definitely needs to ensure that he reciprocates Shomi's undying faith and love for him. So far, it must be said that he has been a pretty poor example as a father and as a husband; but one hopes that he has learned his lessons from his mistakes.

Normally, one always says that a boy learns how to become a man, by emulating his father. In Shekar's case however, he would do well to emulate his son in law, Sanskaar; to learn how to be a wonderful husband

If I had to pick another couple, it would be Ram and Sujatha - a very unlikely couple, yet a perfect counterfoil to each other. Ram's silent demeanour met in full measure by her sheer volubility, his presence of mind matched by Sujatha's absolute lack of common sense. It was fun to see such opposing However, there was one thing that really bound them together, both willingly deferred to Durga Prasad and Annapurna, as a younger brother it was perhaps expected of him but Sujatha literally worshiped the ground her jiji walked on.

Ram never spoke much, I think he had the least dialogues (maybe the total number could be lesser than the number of months the show was telecast), but when he spoke, he made an impact. Remember the scene when Sanskaar decides to let Swara leave by stating that he is not willing to stay married to her, Ram is furious and angrily states that marriage is all about adjustment and Sanskaar should learn from him how to adjust with one's wife. So subtle and to the point, both a message and an admonishment.

Sujata was both lovable and irritating, a very difficult balance to achieve, with her over the top dialogues, especially when it came to expressing her dislike for Swara's Bengali lineage. But what was undeniable was the love that she had for her son, it shone through all her inanities and follies, she always wanted the best for her son though at times she did get blinded by her prejudices. And yet, my favourite scene does not involve her and Sanskaar, it is one of her and Swara, a scene in which she provided unstinting support to Swara's hare brained schemes, very much like her son does. It is the one in which she sings a bhajan to ensure that Kavya is detained till Swara finishes searching Laksh and Kavya's room it was a riotous laugh, especially the abrupt manner in which she stops singing once she gets the signal that Kavya need not be detained.

Ram Prasad, the most understated character, amazingly portrayed by Amar Singh and Sujatha, his better half brilliantly essayed by Sonica Handa, have managed to carve a niche in our hearts and we will always carry fond memories of them.

Swara and Ragini divided by family united by music...this is the story of two half-sisters who was nt aware of their true relation but always ends up together in every situation...Destiny keep them under same roof bt the shelter of love and secrity differs for them..One is always deprived of father love and a family name and another is raised up without mother's affection thus bth the losses can never be fulfilled and they grew up...

Equation gets stumbled when they came to know about their real relation with each other but being blood bound they came together and accepted each other and jointly takes an oath to have a full family of them which they rightfully deserved...

Their relation takes a rockride when Laksh entered their life as Ragini's alleged fiancee and Laksh after proceeding until to the engagement day calls it off stating he dnt like Ragini bt Swara...Ragini for once wants to have something of her own desire...Thus she decides the have Laksh by hook or crook...

Here Start the REAL JUGALBANDI of the both sisters...One is trying to save her marriage and another her dignity and family...
They undergo various ups and down of their life and again reconciles with each other keeping all trashes behind and found their real soulmates in life...Ragini gets her Laksh as life partner and Swara gets a true soulmate Sanskar...

Maybe they r not stereotypes sisters of Television they hv diversity bt still there is a unity between them...they always wd each other be it during conflict or unity...

Thats make them SWARAGINI...Suron se saji Swara and Rago se rachi Ragini

Ragini was a very shy, quiet girl with preserved nature filled with values making her one of the most sweet and caring character. She lost her mother at a very young age and since then she was been living with her father and grandparents in Kolkata. She had a great passion in music with Sitar being her favorite instrument.

Lakshya, on the other hand was a rich and spoilt brat. He lived in a joint family and their family is one of the most well known and richest family in the city.

Durga Prasad, Laksh's father asked for Ragini's hand for his son Lakshya's marriage, both the families agreed and their wedding was finalized.

Ragini and Laksh first saw each other during their engagement day. The day after, Laksh meeting Ragini in the music academy and it became their first ever conversation together alone. Slowly their Relationship turned into Friendship.

Yet the journey of love wasn't so easy for them, Although Ragini accepted Laksh as her life partner and considered him her first and last love. Laksh fell for Ragini's sister. Circumstances forced Lakshya to get engaged to Ragini twice and break the marraige again and again when he was confused between love and family. Ragini was a simple girl yet she had some self respect. She at first decided to compromise with the situation but later when she came to know Sanskaar's motive of returning back to Maheswari family, she joined hands with him.

RagLak's life took a new turn where Ragini played an innocent negative character in Swara's life. It wasn't that she wanted to harm her sister, but she feared Swara might ruin her relation with Lakshya. She pushed Swara on the river and married Lakshya. But as they say, no one can hide the truth; finally Swara and Sanskaar were successful in unveiling Ragini. Lakshya now hated her to core.

Everyone thought Ragini would break after all this. But she became more stoned. She became the owner of the Maheswari property and tortured the family. But her life changed when Lakshya saved her in the new year party. Though, it was the beginning of Ragini's positivity and Lakshya's Betrayal phase, with this, a new love story on RagLak was introduced.

Ragini trusted Lakshya blindly when Lakshya proposed to marry again in front of the family. But on the marriage day, he ditched her and married Kavya. Ragini was heart broken and Kavya used Lakshya as a weapon to destroy the family. When Lakshya came to know about her truth, she trapped him on her own murder case. Sanskar and Ragini exchanged places. Ragini accepted that in her one sided love and obsession she hurt her family but now she knows Laksh never loved her. All this while Laksh was feeling something else for Ragini. The tears of regret from their eyes washed away all the hatred and marked the beginning of something pure. True Love.

Love is a beautiful feeling anyone can ever feel , but how often in life do we understand the meaning of true love.

Your true love completes you, loves you truly despite of all your flaws and remains with you forever, this is exactly how Laksh was feeling today, he was going to finally marry his true love Ragini Gadodia! A sweet and simple traditional girl, whom he thought he would never fall for but today he was in love with no other but her. He was on nine clouds when he heard that Ragini was ready to marry him and give another chance that too after the numerous times he broke her heart and trust in the past. Laksh was late in realizing his love but as said it's better late than never

Finding a true love is very hard in life but it's even more rare to find our true love in first love. Ragini was indeed very lucky to find her true love within her first love. After months of stuggle she is going to marry her true love but life taught her a lesson love doesn't always mean holding on, but sometimes it can also mean letting go. If your love is true then it will surely return to you.
Ragini and Laksh A.K.A RagLak have found their true love, They might be two different body but at the end of the day they are one soul. Today they are forming such a relation which will not only make them one for the birth but the next seven-birth and this tie is called Marriage and from here their journey of trust, compromise, responsibility and love begins .

Sanskaar is a man who defies easy definition. One just cannot categorize him into an easy cubby-hole of traits, he has so much intricate depth to his character, so many fascinating shades to his nature. His biggest strength, is his resolute determination and single minded focus. He gives his all, with each fiber of his being, every last pore and cell in his body, to his loved ones. Though he lost his way briefly, overcome by vindictiveness and bitterness, Swara's warmth and forgiveness, and his own intrinsic strength of character, enabled him to redeem himself completely. Obviously, the person whom he adores above all others, who means the entire world and more to him, is his wife---Swara Sanskaar Maheshwari. Sanskaar would do anything to stand by Swara, to ensure she has a smile on her face, and to shield her from any kind of pain. He is a canny, highly successful entrepreneur, an affectionate and very responsible son and brother, and a tender, passionate and devoted husband. It wouldn't be wrong to say that he really is Perfectly Imperfect. 😊

Writeup on Swara:

Swara is one of those people, whom everyone looks up to for having a genuinely good soul. Her qualities of empathy, warmth and concern for others, make her an extremely admirable character. We have seen her mature from a feisty, cheerful but simultaneously responsible girl, into a true lady of substance. Having spent her childhood years yearning for a father's protective and steadying love, she has a very strong sense of family. She goes out of her way to ensure that all goes well, in both the Maheshwari and the Gadodia households. And though her immense, unconditional love for her birth family and in laws occasionally lands her in harm's way, her selflessness is part of what makes her Swara Sanskaar Maheshwari. And last but certainly not the least---is her complete love and devotion to her soulmate, best friend and husband--Sanskaar Maheshwari. An irrevocable, eternal bond between their innermost selves, which will stand every test, surmount every hurdle.

Writeup on SwaSan's journey---what Swara means to Sanskaar:

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

It would not be hyperbole to say that Swara means everything to Sanskaar. His life, his very existence revolves around his precious love, his other half, his soulmate. When they first crossed paths, Sanskaar had buried himself in the dark and forbidding morass of hate, bitterness and vindictiveness. In his fury, he had thought he could treat Swara as collateral damage in his misplaced plan for revenge against his family. But even then, he could not help but feel an intense pull towards Swara, her innocence and joie de vivre making it impossible for him to be callous about her pain. Swara freely forgave him once she came to know about his truth, and reposed in him, her trust and friendship. Sanskaar responded with his sincere resolve to atone for his sins, and to redeem himself completely by being a true friend to Swara. And then, he fell completely, deeply and irrevocably in love with her. With her goodness, her selflessness and her empathy. The beauty of Sanskaar's love for Swara, is the fact that it is so unconditional and selfless. His intense, potent adoration for her is deeper than the unfathomable depths of the ocean, and broader than the immeasurable span of the sky above. Who better to describe what Swara means to Sanskaar, than the man himself---with these lyrically beautiful words from their first date "Swara, kuch log kismet ki tarah hote hai, jo dua se milte hai; Aur kuch log dua ki tarah hote hai, jo kismet badal dete hai; Tum dua se meri kismet ko mili ho; Aur main ye chahta hoon ki ye dua meri kismet badal de...

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Writeup on SwaSan's journey---what Sanskaar means to Swara:

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Sanskaar has come to be the fulcrum of Swara's life, the very pivot of her thoughts and emotions. Though initially skeptical of his avowal of his love for her, Swara came to reciprocate Sanskaar's devotion with every fibre of her being. He has seeped into her very self, and ensured that her heart, mind and soul are his, and his alone. Sanskaar has been so many things for Swara---her best friend, support system, sounding board, reality check, confidante, anchor, guide---you name it. He stood by her, supporting and shielding her with his unshakable, steely determination, when her own flesh and blood had forsaken her. Swara may have taken some time to acknowledge her own deep and irrevocable love for Sanskaar. But once she did so, we saw her literally glow with excitement, fulfillment and a sense of completeness, whenever she beheld Sanskaar or heard his voice. Can any of us forget the intense, poignant scene when Swara was about to tumble from the cliff, and Sanskaar was desperately trying to hold onto her hands? She accepted the inevitable, that she was probably going to fall to her death (as she thought). But she was content that if this was to be her fate, at least she had the chance to see her beloved before she fell; and had had the good fortune to have loved him deeply, and to have been loved back in full measure. The supremely moving way she declared her love for Sanskaar at that moment, said it all about the immense, central importance he holds in her life.

~Grandmothers create memories that the heart holds forever~

Quite true, though the memories created for both the granddaughters are so different. A Dadi for one granddaughter and dragon personified for the other. One is her laado, who could do no wrong and the other is just a chori whose crime was to be born.

Who could believe a Dadi could be so "two faced a loving grandmother to her ladoo and a foul-mouthed harridan for the other. And when she learnt that the chori whom she never hesitated to slander for not having a father in her life was actually her granddaughter, rather than accept her with open arms, the knowledge transformed her antagonism into pure undiluted hatred. A hatred that soon overtook her overwhelming love for the granddaughter that she had brought up and left her devoid of reason and rationale, as she plotted and schemed her way in an attempt to discredit Swara.

A woman who hated Swara so much for her Bengali lineage that she never hesitated to mutate her own laado, Ragini. A grandmother who overstepped all bounds of propriety when she blackmailed the Maheshwaris to hand over their property and business to Ragini. A dadi who forgot all bonds of blood and ignored the ties of the heart, to join hands with Adarsh and Parineeta in their undertaking to ruin the Maheshwaris, simply in a bid to destroy Swara. It was indeed a very despicable act and it was befitting that in that desperate journey the only person she destroyed was herself.

Parvati Gadodia a grandmother whom we loved to hate or hated to love.

Take the good with the bad, smile with the sad,

Love what you have got and remember what you had.

Always forgive and never forget,

Learn from your mistakes but never regret.

People change and things go wrong,

Just remember that life goes on.

The entire above sonnet can be summed as "Never forget to smile, and that is Uttara for you. The baby of the house of Maheshwaris and the only sister to three elder brothers, one would expect her to be spoilt silly. However neither life nor her brothers gave her what she deserved.

When Sanskaar went underground to plan his revenge for Kavita's death, she must have been too young to truly understand everything and rather than mourn her missing brother she turned to Laksh, transferring even Sanskaar's share of love to him. And when Sanskaar came back, she only had a warm smile and welcome arms, never a hint of a grudge for the brother who did not seem to have much guilt for leaving her behind, along with his family.

Laksh repaid her adoration by involving her in his despicable game plan to teach Ragini a lesson by kidnapping her, she paid the price and watched her family being blackmailed by Dadi into handing over their business and home to Ragini. She was hurt but still did not forget to smile.

Rajat entered her life like a breath of fresh air but then his love was as insincere and fickle as the wind. Joining hands with her Bhabhi, Parineeta, who was willing to sacrifice her love and life to prove Swara wrong, a wounded Uttara was witness to Sanskaar's complete breakdown when Swara was presumed dead. She survived the bullet wound, pained to see how her act of falling in love had ruined her family and yet kept smiling.

Then came Chirag, who rather than kindle her dead heart to life, set fire to her family instead, Taking advantage of her brothers' estranged relationships with their wives, his parents demanded a monetary payment to continue an alliance with the "maligned Uttara. Seeing her bhabis fight for her, she garnered enough courage to break off the engagement. She could see how heartbroken this decision left her parents and she still continued to smile.

Despite everything the life dealt you, in spite of the twists and turns that destiny led you and even though you never got the happy ending you deserved, you have never forgotten to smile.

Thank you Uttara for reminding us the importance of a smile. And may Khyati Mangala always keep smiling.
