Life as a teenager can sometimes not only be tough but also harsh. Teenage years are the years in a person's life where they have to make several decisions that will plan their life ahead. Living as a teenager surrounded by pressure, drugs, love, lust, relationships and education from time to time it can become difficult in choosing the right decision regarding those matters, of which the foundation of the rest of your life will rest upon.
One such person who had to go through that harsh period of time making those "right" decisions is 14-year-old Tiny Lambert, a teenager who is struggling to preserve dreams and ideals amidst the hard-knocks of rural Virginia. Tiny was born with the title of an illegitimate child. Her birth-father was enlisted in World War 2 and left Tiny's mother, Hazel, alone and pregnant at age 16. In order to support and save her "illegitimate child" from disgrace, she ended up marrying a coal-miner named Vern. Even though Vern and Hazel's marriage was sadly loveless, they still ended up having three children: Luther, Beau and Phyllis. Carrying the "illegitimate child" tag with her, prevented her from being welcome in Vern's house, and her self-esteem suffered from his indifference and also from the shame surrounding her illegitimate birth.
As Tiny enters high school, Vern's indifference changes into a more of a desire for lust. Feeling powerless and discomfited, she doesn't confide to anyone about her stepfather's intentions, instead she tries to focus on high school and her favorite time pass, strawberry picking.
