As someone who started off as a theatre actor, won the President to playing the male lead in a prime time daily soap, Aniruddh Dave seems to have finally found his feet in showbiz.

Dressed in the classic combination of blue jeans and white shirt, Anniruddh exuded easy charm and had a ready smile planted on his lips as he struck picture-perfect poses for our lensman, even doing a Dabangg take off with his Aviators. Aniruddh who made his debut on telly inRajkumar Aryan, followed it with a character role in Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki and became a star after playing the rebellious rake Indu Singh in Ruk Jaana Nahin. In Aaj Ki Housewife Hai... Sab Jaanti Hai, Aniruddh gets into khakee and plays a cop, inspired by Salman Khan's Chulbul Pandey from Dabangg. Excerpts from an interview:

You seem to have been inspired by Salman Khan in your show.
You could say, I respect Salman as an actor, but I'm not inspired by him. Salman has his distinct style and if someone's inspired me for this new show it has to be Vinod Khanna for his devil-may-care attitude and the way he'd essay a cop's role. I've seen some of Vinodji's films and followed some of his reel traits for this role.

After television, films are a natural progression for every actor. Do you have plans to make it big in Bollywood at some point?
I have done many TV shows and undoubtedly the experience has been very good. Personally, I don't think there's a huge difference between the small screen and big screen because these days both mediums are equivalent to each other in terms of recognition, reach and creative satisfaction. I want to do films at some point, but I am extremely choosy about my characters. I am looking forward to doing meaningful roles in Bollywood some day. There are some offers in the pipeline so hopefully you'll see me in a big budget film by this year or next year.

You are very passionate about animals and want to start a veterinary hospital.
I am very passionate about animals and if I earn enough, I will open a veterinary hospital.

What is your take on the Supreme Court's decision on relocating the Asiatic lions to MP from Gir?
I feel the lions should be kept somewhere they will be comfortable. Relocating animals is not the wisest call and there are bound to be problems, but we can't question the highest court of the country.

Television is deluged with fresh faces everyday. Is it worrying for the existing lot of actors?
The television industry is really flourishing and you have talented newcomers joining it every other day, so there's lots of competition, but that's okay. An actor's life is very turbulent and there are highs and lows. One needs to be a complete professional and strike a balance between one's personal and professional life to retain one's sanity and survival in showbiz.

(Anirudh Dave )

You've seen him as Raj Kumar Aryan in Raj Kumar Aryan, Deven of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Rajveer of Mera Naam Karegi Roshan or the conniving Lakhiya of Phulwa, but Anirudh Dave claims that it's not really important to play the lead role all the time, the way the role shapes up is vital.

Being genetically blessed with good looks and a winning smile made it easy for him to become an actor. He confesses, "right from the beginning I was keen on acting. Getting to play the male lead in my first show was really a huge high."

Now that he's playing a grey character in Phulwa, did he have any reservations at all? "If you want to prove your acting abilities, doing something different helps. To play a character with negative shades helps you open up as an actor, which you can't do when you are playing a typical good boy. I really enjoy playing Lakhia, as he has a completely different style and accent. If people hate me as a villain, then I have done my job successfully," says Anirudh. In fact, he goes on to say that he's already had a rebuff from a fan for this role. "Once a fan wanted to talk to me when I was travelling, but his young son refused to let him to do that because I am this evil guy who harrasses Phulwa. That I think was a huge compliment to me as an actor" However, Anirudh confesses that he doesn't want to be caught in an image trap and is in the mood for some experimentation. "I have played positive roles in the past and I am open to playing the good boy again." Anirudh is now all set to do an untitled television soap.

Anirudh's also tried his hand in films and has done an important role in Satish Kaushik's Teree Sang. So like many from his fraternity, is B-Town his next destination? "I love acting and if I am offered a good role, I'd love to do films as well," he says. Anirudh's also done a lot of theatre. "Theatre has helped me grow as an actor. I am passionate about theatre because it is the best medium to learn. I have worked with veterans like the late Nirmal Pandey and learned a lot from them. Theatre might not get me bread and butter, but it satisfies the artist in me," he says.

In real life Anirudh is soft spoken and surprisingly down to earth — a total contrast to his mean and evil screen avatar. "It's challenging to portray something that I am not," he laughs. Anirudh keeps visiting Gujarat frequently on religious trips. He says, " Mumbai is my karmbhoomi, so it's special, but Gujarat is my second home. I enjoy the wonderful food. Gujaratis are very cordial," says Anirudh on a parting note.

Aniruddh Dave, who essays the lead role in Zee TV's Aaj Ki Housewife Hai.. Sab Jaanti Hai and Shashank Vyas, who essays the principal role of Jagya in Colors' Balika Vadhu have one thing in common!! And that is the mutual admiration that the actors have for each other.

We hear that both Aniruddh and Shashank liked each other's acting even from the time when they did not know each other. Aniruddh who believes in choosing challenging roles on TV, saw few scenes of Jagya aka Shashank in Balika Vadhu, and this is when he felt that Shashank had it in him to become a very good actor. The same holds good for Shashank, as he was completely bowled over by Indu Singh (the character of Aniruddh in his earlier show, Ruk Jaana Nahin).

We at Tellychakkar.com decided to call both the actors to know what they like about each other.

When we called Aniruddh, he acknowledged the fact that he felt Shashank belonged to the 'group of actors' who have a different take for acting. "I noticed few drunken scenes of Shashank in Balika Vadhu when I felt here is a good actor who has the ability in him to be unique. That was the time when I got to know through a common friend, that even Shashank goes gaga over my acting capabilities. And this is how we came to know each other. We both shoot at Naigaon presently and this helps us to catch up often and discover more about our common thoughts."

So what do Aniruddh and Shashank discuss when they meet? "We meet quite often and whenever it does happen, we talk about various subjects related to acting. We have a word on the aesthetics of acting; we also talk about various classics in terms of Hindi movies from where we can derive inspiration. We also share our experiences of working with big names in the industry."

What does Aniruddh like in Shashank? "Actually if you see my career graph, one will notice that I have taken up only performance-oriented roles. And for Shashank, this is a big break to be part of Balika Vadhu. He is a brilliant actor and and has it in him to go miles. In fact, Shashank is the most grounded guy that I have met. And he is always what he is when he is with actors from the industry, and this is what I like about him. To tell you more, I also have the same attributes and that is why we both gel so well."

We then moved on to Shashank to know what he feels about Aniruddh. "Aniruddh is a very natural actor and always has this penchant to adding his inputs to his character. And this is what impressed me. I have great respect for him as an actor. And if you see, we both have the same thought-process. He is very much scnior to him and has done quite a lot of good work. I keep asking him how he manages to add that 'extra bit' into his role and he always obliges by explaining the necessity of being different as an actor. We are 'Desi' boys who like to present ourselves as what we are. We have the so-called rawness in us. He is from Jaipur and I am from Ujjain. So you can say we are small town guys who compliment each other for our good work."

Aniruddh and Shashank, we simply admire the mutual admiration that you have for each other.

In fact, Dave used to also audition actors but there was a particular role in the movie which he thought he could perform well but was not allowed to audition for it. But eventually he did and was signed for that role.

Aniruddh Dave who plays Lakhiya in Phulwa has been a movie actor as well. He was a part of the movie Tere Sang directed by Satish Kaushik. Aniruddh played the character of Mushtaq who was the second lead in the movie.

Telly star Aniruddh Dave talks about his love for Gujarati food and his on screen avatar in a chat with TOI

He oozes oomph. Known for his dashing and flamboyant performances in shows like Raj Kumar Aryan, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Mera Naam Karegi Roshan and Phulwa, telly actor Aniruddh Dave is excited about bagging the promising role of Indu Singh in his current show Ruk Jaana Nahi...Aa Rahi Hai Sanchi. Aniruddh, who was in Surat recently, opens up to a candid chat. He says, "I love visiting Gujarat as it's such a vibrant state. Plus, I love gorging on Gujarati food as I'm a big foodie."

Theatre is what the actor is passionate about apart from doing television shows. "I wanted to become an actor since I was a child. I started doing theatre soon after my graduation. I have a very special place for theatre in my heart. Theatre is a place where a person can really come out as a polished actor," says Aniruddh who adds, "Performing live in front of an audience... well, that's what really made me an actor. I don't mind playing any character as long as I can still be associated with theatre somewhere down the line."

Aniruddh feels working with producer Hemal Thakkar and actor Paresh Raval has been quite an enriching experience. "Both Hemal (Thakkar) sir and Paresh (Raval) sir belong to the theatre background and share a very creative vision. It's something I've always wanted to do," says the actor.

Praised for his conniving character Lakhiya which has lots of grey shades in the daily soap Phulwa, Aniruddh feels roles with negative shades enjoy more recall on TV. In his current show Ruk Jaana Nahi...Aa Rahi Hai Sanchi too, Aniruddh is seen essaying a negative character. "I don't enjoy playing those homely and simple characters on the small screen. In fact, I enjoy playing grey characters on screen as I feel they have more potential. I've observed that the audience is more inclined towards watching a grey character than a good character on screen. Even if they curse you, they will still watch you, since 'grey' is the essence of the whole show." On this note, the actor signs off.

Aniruddh Dave who is playing Police in Housewife Sab Janti hai is getting accolades for his portrayal of a police officer.
"I have done theater and the kind of an actor I am, I do a lot of improvisations on the set. That always helped me. I took special time and effort to look like the character because the audience first likes the look of the character. So the look has to be convincing. In the first couple of months I want to put my best to establish the character on screen and then later on when the audience started liking the character you just need to go with the flow," says Anirudh, who is inspired by the actor Vinod Khanna.

He has also been trying to be original as Kanhaiya. "When I look back I have seen actor Vinod Khanna as a police inspector and the on screen charisma and persona he used to have was magical. In Indian television one can rarely see a police inspector in uniform so I am hopeful after Kanhiya people would start giving this as example," he added.
