"Love always elevates the character of man. It never lowers him, provided love be love. "
"If the deaf are to hear, the sound has to be very loud. When we dropped the bomb, it was not our intention to kill anybody. We have bombed the British Government. The British must quit India and make her free."

"Merciless criticism and independent thinking are the two necessary traits of revolutionary thinking."

The above words were written by a man who gave a new direction to the revolutionary movement in India - A man who was hanged to death on this very day, in 1931.
This great person was a revolutionary ahead of his times. Although he was labeled as a terrorist by the British Government, he succeeded in giving the revolutionary movement a new path.
Today, the Nation remember this great young man as A Martyr.
Yes, the person I am referring to is none other than,
"It has increased our power for winning freedom for which Bhagat Singh and his comrades have died"
-Mahatma Gandhi
"Their magnificent courage and sacrifice has been an inspiration to the youth of India"
-Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
A student of the D.A.V College at Lahore, Singh was influenced by two veteran Nationalists, Bhai Parmanand and Jai Chand Vidyalankar. A young Bhagat became the founder of the College Students Union.
Bhagat Singh responded to the non-cooperation call of Gandhi, left the D.A.V. College and later joined the National College founded by Lala Lajpat Rai, from where he graduated in 1923.
From 1923 to the time of his execution in 1931, Bhagat Singh dedicated himself to the liberation of his motherland.

Bhagat Singh, along with his friends, decided to take revenge against Mr. Scott, who was believed to be responsible for the lathi blows given to Lala Lajpat Rai.
Carrying on with their plans, on April 8, 1929 they threw a bomb when the Central Assembly was in session, and later offered themselves for arrest shouting & Inquilab Zindabad(Long Live Revolution).
Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were arrested, and tried. Being found guilty, he was hanged in Lahore Central Jail on 23 March 1931 at about 7.30 in the evening. Their bodies were not returned to their relatives instead they were cremated by the police at the dead of night on the banks of the sangam of River Beas and River Satlej, near Ferozepur.
"Like a flame of candle in the morning, I disappear before the light of dawn. Our faith and our ideas will stir the whole world like a spark of lightening . What harm, if this handful of dust is destroyed!"
-So said Singh before offering himself for the nation.
From the moment he was arrested to his last breath, on the 23rd of March, there was not a single moment when any gloomy thought entered his mind.
When pressed by his relatives to submit a petition for mercy, Bhagat Singh not only refused to do anything of that sort but in a dignified letter to the Government, he maintained that he was a revolutionery soldier, fighting for the freedom of his country.

So friends, lets remember "The Martyr" today. Lets take this pledge to make the world a better place to live in. Lets all get together, and pray for his soul.
