In the very first episode, we are introduced to two individuals who belong to completely different worlds. They have nothing in common except for their loneliness, their TANHAI.
We are first introduced to Pallavi Deshmukh who runs a sari shop owned by her father. She is dedicated to providing the best service to her customers and has great thoughts about how wearing a sari gives you an identity, all thanks to her father whose legacy she carries on.
Suddenly, there is bin mausam barsat in the month of February which in Krishna's words is khushiyon ka telegram in Pallavi's name. Pallavi steps out to enjoy the rains.
In order to avoid going home completely drenched, she makes a stop at Krishna's house. There she is rudely reminded of the fact that as per customs she's not allowed to wear any color other than white since she is a WIDOW. While Krishna tries to object, Pallavi accepts the white sari and tells her that we should respect the wishes of our elders as they have more life experience. Krishna prays for happiness in Pallavi's life as she's seen a lot of troubles in her short life.
On the other hand, we are introduced to the Khushiyon ka telegram who is to enter Pallavi's life. Mr. Raghav Rao. He is rich and has a ton of attitude. As per his experience, girls only want to be with him for his money. He's in the backseat of his favorite car with a girl who is clearly there for his money.
When a hawker girl comes trying to sell kumkum (she tells him he will marry a good girl if he buys it), he helps her by buying the same. However, he doesn't need the sindoor and ends up throwing it over his head. As fate had already decided, it falls on Pallavi staining her white widow sari into bright red. But along with the sindoor, he also splashes dirt on her clothes unknowingly. This was such a foreshadowing of what was to come in their lives.
Raghav is someone who has very different thoughts about love which he tells the girl who was sitting with him in his car:
Pyar koi mazzak nahi hai jo car ke backseat main yunhi ho jaye;
Lehron ke tarah takra kar bikharta nahi hai pyar;
Kisipe mar mitne ka naam hota hai pyar;
Zinda logon ka kaam nahi hai, pyar karna;
Kyuki jo pyar ko jaan le, yeh pyar uska jaan le.
When he realises the true intentions of the girl, he asks her to get out of the car.
When Pallavi reaches home, we get to know that she's living with her in laws - Deshmukh family who treat her like their daughter post demise of their son, Mandar. She tells her mother-in-law that she considers her as her own mother. The Deskhmukh family called their widowed daughter in law their daughter to protect her from all taunts of society.
Aayi, loves Pallavi like her own daughter and is angry seeing her in a white sari. She tells Pallavi that she wants to find a nice man for her so that she moves on in her life and she is determined to do so. While Pallavi tells her that she's happy with her life and has no place for anyone, Aayi is able to see the loneliness in Pallavi's eyes.
Raghav on the other hand forcefully tries to make another girl sit in his car and ends up fighting some goons for her. The girl ultimately runs from there and Raghav enters his house, a huge mansion, injured after his nasty fight. He pours himself a drink but what is striking here is that he is all alone in this huge mansion. We are played the background music, the OST of the show which adds to the beauty of the scene.
Pallavi on the other hand tries to take off the red stains from her sari as she has no place for red color in her life but is unable to.
This episode had so much foreshadowing and clearly established the backstory of the leads. It also leaves a big question - how will these stark opposite individuals meet and fall in love.
Side note: They showed the next week worth of scenes in the precap. Looks like nothing has changed in these 170 episodes.
