Criticizing vs Bashing (some questions)

Genuinely asking because seems like things got heated on the forum this week and now I’m just curious - what does everyone consider is the difference between criticizing a character and bashing ? It feels like everyone has a different view. To me bashing is more like hating and criticizing is more analyzing a character. I didn’t really use the term bashing until I came to IF. And idk maybe I still don’t get it lol. Bashing seems to happen once in a while and I don’t agree with it, but I don’t think criticism is the same as bashing.

Do we have to like and agree with every character all the time ? This is a forum about a show - are we not allowed to voice our opinions , whether we like what happened or not?

Of course the CVs are going to show what they want, but what’s the harm in analyzing the show, even when we don’t like what a character does ? Why do some get flack for it ? Who cares what the producer said? Do we have to only praise the show? Even then, since when did not liking what one character did mean we’re hating on the show? Does criticizing a characters choice mean we’re now diminishing the hard work of the cast and crew? (No).

I just don’t get why any time there’s an analysis on Pallavi or Raghav, and it’s not in favor, things get so jumbled and heated. Idk about you guys but even when I don’t like what they do - I still like them! They’re still my favorite on screen pairing. I still love the show regardless if I like the current plot or not. I enjoy this so much that its going to go on my rewatch list.

I know some people take it too far and do cross into the bashing zone but a lot don’t - it’s just critique.

Idk 🤷🏽‍♀️ I just had thoughts/ had to rant about this. I think we all should be equally allowed to criticize and defend the characters as much as we want as long as we don’t cross any lines. Even if the track is not over yet. Where the line should be drawn is name calling, derogatory remarks etc.

I think mostly everyone is an adult here and knows none of these discussions are that serious, so if it’s not hate, idk the issue.

Also, just for the record - I don’t know what’s exactly happening on social media but it seems like fans there are bugging the actors and yeah that’s taking it too far. The actors have nothing to do with their characters trajectory and the story plot. Even bashing/hating on CVS directly is taking it too far. Hate is never ok but it also needs to be clear that criticism is not hate.

But anyway, excuse my ranting - I just had to get it out. And if I offended anyone, apologies bc that wasn’t my intent. Idk if anything I wrote even made sense 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️. I guess I’m just trying to understand what people think so even I know not to offend anyone in the future.

Also it is not my intention to drag any negativity into the forum, call anyone out, or make anyone feel bad for saying whatever they wanted to here. I hope that was clear.

I’m gonna go back to ogling the most recent bts pics now 🤪 ✌🏽.

True! Criticising is part and parcel of liking a show and being on a forum. If we praise them then we have a right to criticise as well. However I feel criticism becomes bashing when name-calling happens or when fans of a particular lead feels the other lead is not worth it.

A logical and healthy debate is welcomed and enjoyed by everyone where if someone is right other will accept that but when one fandom keeps on criticising without any rhyme or reason, it becomes bashing.

So far this forum has been free of this type of crazy fan wars or hatred for the leads and I hope it remains this way.

This will happen as the line will be different for everybody. Something might be fine for u to say but others will take it as u crossed the line. And then ppl mostly keep victim card with them to use which is whole other issue. In any subjective discussion like art which any creative job is lines r always blurred. So u cant exactly say wt is criticizing and what is bashing.

Without giving reason saying anything might still be clear to be in bashing zone. But the reason is how good nd bad and thus is bashing not criticism, that judgement can't be with anyone. No one here is dt qualified.

Constructive criticism should be allowed but some take it too personally. I remember once someone commented something on one of the characters (it wasn't bad what she said) but another person lashed out as if that person had bashed their family member!!

I haven't been 100% on board with some of the things Pallavi does of says especially with ref to the Deshmucks but some of the things I've read over the last of couple of days on her has shocked me. But FL I believe are always easy targets while the ML have a easy ride.

I think there should be a MHRW Frustration thread on here. Where people can vent about episodes or characters.

Is this possible Mods?

You're absolutely right, they're two very different forms of expression.

Nothing wrong with critique, whether it's about the characters or the actors. It's just a place for healthy discussion after all! The problem arises when actors' social media accounts are bombarded with hate comments and threats even, but I think that's just the unfortunate baggage that comes with having a prominent social media presence.

I love the show, LOVE the pairing (their height difference, or lack thereof, is to die for!), love the actors, but that doesn't mean I don't dislike certain dialogues or scenes or tracks. I mean... I'm going to drool over Raghav no matter what! 😆

@bold : may be the best way to go about this. That way people don’t feel that there are too many “negative” posts and others can feel like they have a safe space to vent their frustrations.

I’ve seen it work in other forums.

The difference between criticizing and bashing is simple. When you criticize a certain character, you have a negative opinion about that character's behavior and bashing means being super harsh, hateful and accusatory towards that character for no good reason. While criticizing you actually take both merits and demerits of that character into consideration but while bashing the sole focus goes only on their faults and wrongdoings.

Now of course we all aren’t going to like the same thing or have the same viewpoint. This is an open forum and people are free to share whatever they want but I feel if everyone tries to understand other's point of view and chooses their words wisely while responding, this would certainly be a better place.

Kasam se... I wish I understood Telugu, I'd run to watch his other shows/movies as well! I can't believe ITV was missing out on him all these years! His height, physique, and expressions are SO in sync with Raghav it blows me away every time! The way he stares with intent and walks with purpose. What has me falling head over heels time and again though is how sweet and innocent he is in his interviews! I think that's primarily a south Indian actor trait - they're not pompous and they're insanely hardworking. You can actually tell from both Sai and Shivangi's minimal interviews that they show up to work to work, they don't have videos upon videos insinuating that there's something more between them, no PR gimmicks, no starry attitude, no drama basically! I wouldn't blame them for letting the fame get to their heads because they truly shot to fame overnight, but nope... they're both as cool as cucumbers! ❤️
