I thought that they got their children married but the "gauna" (bidai) happened only in their teenage..may be 15-16! in Meera, Mrinal and Meera both got married and went to their sasural immediately? 😕 It's a bit odd to see children sharing the same room when they don't even know the meaning of marriage....

I know right. hah! It is super weird seeing these little kids getting married and staying in the same room and following all these traditions, that is a scary thought. Thank god times have changed.

well it is really weird watchng them sharing rooms bt maybe thy was nvr a ritual of gauna at tat point of time......

I think they get the girls married earlier as a lot of places in India don't like girls as children. Instead of getting an abortion some how or killing the child, they can just marry them off early. It can been seen as beneficial as well as the girl will get more time to get used to her Sasural and while she is small, she can learn the rules of the house and stick to them, instead of getting older and having to change their life completely......

Also, I've seen in Jhansi Ki Rani, one of the elders making a girl understand that if they don't get married by 14, their parents will go to hell, which is written in the scriptures.... so it might be this rumour that is popular in that time! (It isn't true I don't think)

By the way, I'm not too in favour of it, marriages should be done at the right age for the individual, not a certain time, like everyone at 21........ if you understand my view!

i truly go wid u satvik...bt it was mre worse wat i saw yesterdays episode....ranima was disgusted seeing bhojraj n meera not sharing the bed!!😆 it was mre worse...kids gettg married leaving as hubby n wife bt not knowing the real meaning

in fact girls had to be wedded before they attained their adolescence...😊 hence the common terminology used in hindu marriages "kanya-daan" in fact the most important part of every marriage i.e. where the parents take the oath of handing over the daughter to the husband...

"kanya" itself refers to a young girl - a young girl who has not yet reached adolescence...

but all this seems weird to us only because this is not the norm...

if this is how we grew up... 😃 if this is how we see everyone around us behaving, then this might not seem abnormal to us... just like how we look upon the beliefs and norms of the 13th 14th 15th century as "funny" they might be looking upon our more feminist views as wrong too loooool
