I have some MAJOR grudges with what has been shown in these first few parts:

1) The 'lines' that the judges, including Akshay spout are like some B grade hindi film
dialogues!

2) Akki totally overshadows the other two judges, the REAL judges of masterchef, because
they happen to be super chefs themselves.

3) Too much rona dhona and highlighting contestant's sob stories, Please keep it crisp and
interesting.

4) The 'variety' of contestants is shocking.. hardly any representation of east and south India!

Finally,
this show should be renamed Masterchef Punjab. Don't ask me why.

😆

Wouldn't rate it a total fail. Its a bit too early to judge... 2 episodes are hardly enough. But yes, it did not meet the expectations. Didn't meet my expectations, at least.

The show could have done better by getting a food critic as a third judge, with Akshay Kumar playing the host. They do need a celebrity factor to grab the eyeballs. Having been a cook at a Bangkok stall does not automatically qualify him for the spot. (He is not a qualified chef, right?).

@contestants: Perhaps people enjoy watching the rona-dhona and rude comments by judges. That seems to be the only justification for every reality-show to have huge dollops of both.

Let's see how the show fares when the actual competition starts.

@ Eventide

Well I was commenting as a viewer who had given this show a 'try', in that sense, atleast me, as a viewer, I would not want to watch Masterchef India with all it's drama galore when I have such kickass alternatives such
as the original Masterchef Australia..

It's such a pity they cannot adapt a great format to Indian tastes!

ronitfan, like it or not, every desi reality show has unnecessary drama. More drama = Higher TRPs. Indeed a sorry state of affairs.

There is no comparison between Masterchef India and Masterchef Australia. The latter has a slick pace and one is not put off by the judges. Matt, Gary and George do criticize, but its always constructive. and contestants have a passion for cooking. A few contestants in the desi version seemed to have participated just for the sake of meeting the actor, or to get their two minutes of fame.

BTW, have they changed the format? Coz the Australian version had a long drawn preliminaries with cook-offs et al, before the MC aprons were awarded.

I know what you mean..
but I really thought this was a great chance to stick to an international format for a change, and produce an excellent Indian cooking reality show..
so much of drama at the preliminary stage?! Not palatable at all..

And yes,
they said they have 'tweaked' the format..
whatever it is, it's not good!

Well, the optimist in me feels all is not lost. As is, there would be a lesser chance of airing sob stories once the actual competition starts. Would pick this show over the saas-bahu dramas any day.

Much also depends on the kind of audience they are targeting. If they plan to target housewives who love drama, the show would completely loose it.

Hope the 'tweak' does not include scrapping the Master Class. 😕
