Hello Daksh,

I don't boast of being a regular viewer of this serial, but i follow the story very closely and manage to catch a few episodes on TV, if I'm lucky to be up till and after eleven.

I've to say, it a phenomenal, easily "path-breaking" show. Especially the homosexual portrayal--this is probably the first time in the history of my viewing of Indian Telly that I did not cringe while watching a "gay" scene.

Splendid, splendid are the emotional, pure scenes between Karan and Gaurav. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Dakssh,

I hope it's really you here (the poem you posted above gives some confirmation).

First of all, I want to congratulate you for portraying a difficult, complex, and a historic TV show character with such sincerity, dedication, and success. I can only imagine how hard it must have been to accept and get into the skin of a gay character being a straight male yourself. I must point out these particular scenes which truly showcased your talent as an actor, 1. when Gaurav reveals to Vidya that he is gay, 2. Gaurav's argument with SSP which leads to the gun-shot, and Gaurav's reaction when Vidya is declared dead, 3. Gaurav breaks up with Karan, and more recently 4. Gaurav's coming out to Adi. The frustration and pain Gaurav felt that you displayed in these scenes (and others) appeared very genuine - a mark of an excellent actor!

Regarding the show, it's definitely historic, I hope it becomes a trend-setter and we see more TV shows representing different aspects of the homosexual minority. Sorry Karan Johar, I am a big fan, but he should learn something from this show and think about portraying homosexuality in a more sensitive manner (in other words, there are always ways to spread awareness that do not involve mockery). The two scenes I recall 1. when Karan confronts Devyani in the hospital after Gaurav's accident and 2. the dialogue between Devyani and Roshni Devi after Roshni Devi fails in all her attempts to change her son - were remarkable!

Dakssh, as an important note, I want to mention that I hope you realize that you and the show creatives are contributing to saving so many young gay lives. Suicide is a sad reality of many young gay people. Think about a gay young adult contemplating suicide, who has no support from his peers or parents, watches this show and sees that there is hope and things may get better soon! This is why we wish for a happy ending (or turn) to the character. Also, as a side note, I read somewhere that you did not want to be a gay icon. Not sure how you meant it, but there is nothing wrong in being a gay icon, which by definition is a person (gay or straight) respected by the gay community.

You are doing excellent and wish you more success and best of luck.

OMGG I cannot believeee this!
Dakssh, its really you! First of all, welcome to India Forums and the Maryada forum =) So happy you decided to join and interact with your fans! Really is an honour to meet you here =)
Maryada is truely a bold and power-packed show! I love watching it because its so different from the normal saas-bahu dramas, and really touches upon some great sensitive issues. I'm going to be very honest...Gaurav is one of my most favourite characters in Maryada. Gaurav's character development has been amazing in the show, and you've portrayed him exceptionally well! I have to say, you're a brilliant actor and hats off to you for accepting such a risky yet challenging role! I don't think many actors would have done justice to Gaurav, the way you have =)
I would also like to mention that the on-screen chemistry you share with Vindhya is simply amazing! I am a huge fan of both Gaurav and Vidya, purely because of the chemistry and also the beautiful yet complicated relationship they share. Even though Gaurav and Vidya may never be together in the true sense (as husband and wife), I adore the amount of respect, understanding, and concern they have for each other. Its totally different and hatke from the typical romantic love story, and that is exactly what I love =)
Continue with the fantastic work, and can't wait to see what's in store for Gaurav in the future =) Wish you all the best!

OMG is it you really???
BTW I love this show and watch it from its 1st episode...It is an unique and versatile show which doesn't show unreal or impossible plots...its quite near to reality so this is the thing which attracts me more to watch the show...The current track which is showing that you are gay is also a stricking move of Indian Serial...I think it is the time to get out of old Saas Bahu track so your show is fantastic...
Though I can't follow it on tv because of timing but watch it on YOUTUBE daily...
Thanks for being a part of this forum...

Today your expressions while Adi and Devyani were talking were marvelous. Most of the time 3rd person doesn't do much but your effort made the whole scene look so real.Us audience could connect with the pain and sadness of Gaurav really well.

Welcome again Dakssh!

Love your work...great acting. I have said this before here and I will say it again...I find it commendable that you took up the role of a homosexual character in an industry that tends to pigeon-hole actors. Indian telly needs to go beyond the tried and tested and this story plot for Gaurav is one step in the right direction.

The show itself goes through peaks and valleys...but on average, it's terrific. Some areas that have bothered me:

1. Chinu/Vidya...why did it have to be Chinu? In a story with so many layers and complications, did the guy for Vidya have to be from within the family? Also...is finding a guy the only way for Vidya to find happiness? Rather typical is that not? For a story that was to be about the four women working together...it would have been more interesting to see Vidya stand up for herself and the other women supporting her. I just wish the writers had looked at other ways to evolve the plot. The Chinu/Vidya plot is not very interesting for me.

2. Uttara: I have been a great admirer of the writing in this show. I especially loved Uttara's character. The person who was presented in the first 8 months of the show is not consistent with the way this character is being shown now...chasing after Brahma etc. That has been disappointing. A woman who is as close to her sister as Uttara was shown being with Devyani would not do this.

3. Roshni Devi: Love RD's character...most entertaining to watch. Would be good to see a back story to the history behind why she hates Brahma so much. Before she was introduced, Brahma had been shown talking to a mystery woman on the phone for months...who was that? I assume it was RD. It would be nice to see loose ends being tied up.

4. Mr. Pradhan: It is weird to have Mr. Pradhan missing for this long. Granted there could be a million things going behind the scenes (lack of actor availability etc.) but he is not even mentioned anymore. With so much happening in Priya and Chinu's lives and given how close they were, his character should be in the story.

Anyway...glad to see your here.

I second this...especially the bold part!

And again...awesome job as Gaurav...he's my favorite from the "good guys" list

I fully support above lines from one of the members. I was also taken aback when I read about issues being blown out for "Dakssh Ajit Singh being flooded with friends request in FACEBOOK from the gay community". Dakssh, you should understand that not all those requesting for friendship with you are for fun or anything else. Many of the gays felt themselves being portrayed through your character in Maryada. They will be happy to share their feelings with you. They hope that the society will start treating them positively through your character.

akumarak6,

I don't expect Dakssh to provide an explanation on what was mentioned in that particular article. But, I am not surprised given a very common stereotype of gay men as sexual predators, as if they are out there just to hit on other men. Most of the gay characters seen on TV are portrayed in this manner so the society generalizes as the only examples they see (or shown by media) are Bobby Darling and the likes.

This is why it is so refreshing to see the characters of Gaurav and Karan in this show who are represented as just two human beings and not two stereotyped gay characters. If Dakssh was secure enough to take up such a role, I am sure he can handle a gay fan base.

First of all thanx for taking the initiative to mention so many things as related to Gaurav...
First of all you have to understand the fact whenever we give any statement in front of media or to anybody or to ur soul, the honesty should b there, and I blv in wht I say and I live my life on those terms... I dn't like to call myself as actor, I blv I m an artist, thats why I always try to clear my point of view to everyone... Yaa I said that would not like to promote myself as gay icon just for publicity, I wd hv gained tremendous publicity by jst spending few bucks or with the helps of sm media friendzzz, but I never tried that, Coz I blv this character has so many layers with a pack of homosexual issue... I blv it's nt an issue, if we really want to understand a gay person, there is nothing wrong in it, and I respect each n every gay who has some decency as u expect same frm a straight person also... Beyond that thr is nothing shd b dsccsd... If one is gay, than he is... Simple accept it, face the truth, live with dignity...

But my concern is something else, I will never promote such things who can spoil the youth of my country, I always want to do justice with my character as Gaurav (Gay)... So many people ask me so many things, are u the same person who is playing gay, and. Replied, yes, I m playing a gay character, u knw by just saying I can make an impact of a straight person's mind and I can make him realize if he has sm misconception abt this issue...

But I m sure I am in favor of giving all the gays same rights as straight people have on human level as a citizen of this great country and coz FREEDOM everyone needs, so does gays...

But I will never promote this thing, I guess promoting something and understanding something is far differ... :)

I understand feelings... :)

I am human and this is my only identity... (D.A.S)
