Uttara fought back against the abuse. I think this was best part of the whole episode. Go Uttara!!

Her pain, suffering, and anguish was so palpable. She exhibited all the signs of an abused woman, tolerate tolerate tolerate until you reach a point, and then your tolerance level just breaks. Maybe the instinct to survive kicks in, its either fight back against the abuse or leave. Uttara chooses to fight back.

She wakes up Rishab with this scary looking knife in her hands and a calm expression. But the calm face hides her inner turmoil and determination to end this abuse. She has reached her limit to bear the humiliation and pain of being beaten. Rishab wakes up and is scared, says move the knife and Uttara says yes I move the knife only if you stop hitting me. Rishab asks have you gone crazy, and she replies yes I have gone crazy and no longer worthy to be your wife and I am going to kill myself.

And Rishab stops her and he displays typical abuser behavior of remorse and guilt of hitting her, stating that its his fault, his shortcomings, and in fact he is not worthy of her and then finally says she is the love of his life. Ok, we do not beat the crap out of our loved ones!!! That it is he who has lost the battle of life and not her, that he has not been able to fulfill any of their dreams. He has lost everything and is living a life donated by her sister and brother-in-law. And life for him is hell, he has tolerated so much and hates himself. I wonder if this is first honest conversation husband and wife have had? Rishab reveals his innermost feelings, the deep burden of disappointment and inadequacy he feels for not able to take care of her. He begs for her forgiveness.

I loved it, that they continued the conversation next morning maintaining continuity. The emotions of the night have calmed down, perhaps to signify its a new morning a new beginning? He offers to set her free, and that he wouldn't stop her if she chose to leave. His guilt of hitting her is not new, his previous determinations to reform were a waste he just not have the ability to make himself worthy of her (wow there are some serious skeletons in that closet). It will be interesting to see on what life threw at him that broke him and turned him into an abuser. He makes repeated references to his inadequacies and lack of worth. He has some serious self-esteem issues.

Uttara replies she loves him deeply and however he is, he is her husband and she will support him in whatever he does. He does not have take any "daan" charity from anybody. That they will move forward together and she only wants his love.

The question is, has Uttara managed to break the cycle of abuse or its just a short term respite until something sets of Rishab again and the beating resumes........I guess only time will tell.

Hats off to Kamya for a wonderful portrayal of Uttara. You could feel her pain, and torment that she has gone through.

Rest of the epi was good.

What do you all think??

Great synopsis of the scenes! They did a wonderful job of creating the classic relationship and struggle between the abuser and abusee.

Both actors did a fabulous job of portraying their characters' struggle, emotion...it was a great scene.

Great post! Kamyas portrayal of Uttara was definetly mindblowing today. As for the character Uttara - i dont think this is the end of her misery. Like you said it is most probably a brief (very brief) break 😭

Good post :) Indeed Kamya Punjabi stole the show with her outstanding piece of acting. I could really feel Uttara's pain and it gave me goosebumps. Uttara's wailing just left me with a lump in my throat...you could real feel for what she has been through. And when an actor/actress is able to win over the audience, it means that they have succeeded in portraying their respective character. Well done, Kamya!

it was superb bit of acting from Kamya...it was so hard to watch...which means it really effected me...the hopelessness and the feeling of defeat was shown so clearly across her face....i was in awe....but i wish she left when she got the chance....because i don't think Rishab will change as that is how abusive people often are...saying sorry after doing everything....Uttara really deserves much better.
