Speaking of Bold

sorry, i mostly observe and rarely share my opinion. first someone asked what's so bold about this show, but it seems like most of you have something negative to say about every bold step the drama actually takes.

about the drinking. women drink, this is a fact, they smoke too. i'm not indian but i take great pride in seeing that india is unafraid in taking reality and portraying it in drama instead of fantasy driven elements like auto-resurrection from the dead, vamps who have to keep tormenting innocent unsuspecting protagonists over and over again to sleep with their husbands, etc.

i agree, there was a time when women aspired to be like Tulsi & Parvati, but come off it, no one can take that much of torment and still be nice, forgiving and unsuspecting.

it's easy for everyone to ask for boldness but it's sad to see so many shying away from it when they see it. in my opinion even the creatives of the show are doing a huge feeler with the audience by keeping Gaurav's secret a secret till the last possible moment. Even if they did intend to focus on a homosexual angle, they're not going to after the way the fans of the show have been talking about it - referring to it as 'the gay thing' and 'God i hope it's not another man'. I think someone even said 'bold yes, but not that bold.'

personally i would applaud the character of Uttara if she were to have an affair, because i think in real life, a woman in that position would.

i love the character of Devyani because i know so many women like her, who would much rather sweep issues under the rug rather than deal with them and cause discomfort and discord.

if you want bold then you need to be open to anything, absolutely anything, and i disagree with people who say that television influences people's lives. if you are a weak person and don't know yourself, you could be influenced by anything.

i think, Maryada is trying (high emphasis on the word 'trying) hard to portray real life through family drama. and as much as we hate to admit it, most of us here are being exactly like Devyani, we'd much rather watch a good old fashioned love story rather than see real life thrown back in our faces.

i enjoy this show and the bolder it gets, the more i will support it.

:)

All Maryada needs to be more realistic is a grandmother who is always gossiping and finding the wrong in everything that you do.

Many of my opinions match with yours. I am actually expecting a lot more from this show. I really liked the first 3 episodes very much, though can't say what exactly I liked in it. Probably the way the story is shown, the way the characters are introduced and the way the issues are introduced.

But something still is missing for me. As I said I am really expecting this show to be a serious one, which can satisfy the serious thinker in me. But I think they need time to develop the story before the marriage of Adi - priya and need to hold on the audience till then also. So I think they are either showing the dream sequences or potraying the scenes b/w the two in a more romantic way than which can naturally gell with the current situation. But I think that is slightly diluting the story. Apart from that the things that are really interesting me are

1) Uttara
2) Devyani and her father-in-law (especially yesterday's + last but one scene)
3) Priya's father and his reactions to the situtions
4) Devyani SSP Gaurav relationship
5) I liked the initial scenes b/w Aditya and Priya where the later tries to show her negligence towards her father's efforts.

Many more things look natural. Vidya and her grandma's reaction. Gaurav's reaction towards Vidya and her anitcs. Uttara Adi relationship also looks interesting. I mean I can list many which are interesting angles in this. But still something is missing. I don't know what right now ? Will give it a try for some more time..

YES, I very much liked the drunk scene. I felt the entire sequence (minus the dream scene) is scripted out very well. It is excellent in the sense, i can see the woman (Uttara to be more precise) struggling out and getting some momentary accomplishment of doing something against the norms and getting delighted for it at least momentarily. And then the sudden transition from that delated state to the horror situation of facing the reality again (when the husband starts shouting at SSP). I feel the whole sequence, including the transitions in the moods, was excuted well.
