Indeed they have shown a lot of negative aspects of Pu La. But unless they were true, they wouldn't have shown it. It is after all a biopic and not sugar coated fiction like Sanju.
His smoking and drinking were openly shown. Even the maestros were shown that they enjoyed a drink.
There is even a scene where Sunita tells both Pu La and his mother that she has gone for an abortion (in those days!) because she felt that Pu La would not be able to handle the responsibilities of a father. It was done so beautifully with no dramatic rona dhona. And even after that incident both Sunita and Pu La have been shown taking it in their stride and continuing their strong bonding. There were many incidents where it was clear that Pu La was drawn to the entertainment world and neglected his wife.
I don't know what the people want to see... truth or fiction?

In a biopic , showing smoking & drinking cannot be called as maligning the character.
None of these things is intrinsically bad . it is the excess of anything which is bad. ( actually excess of food might be far more harmful ).In case of PL ,none of these habits were out of control . neither these seem to have affected his perfomance or talent anyway.
It is pointless to apply current fashions to an earlier era.
Actually the last two biopics KG & PL show the difference where one person who did excesses & thus spoiled his life ( KG) & the other who by remaining in control enjoyed his life full.

his die hard fans won't digest if he is depicted in the movie as drunkard and smoker. He is certainly not kashinath or Sanjay dutt who are hated by most. So whatever shown in those movies may have been accepted. Even antu barwa was shown drinking is too much.
You can go through the messages in detail. I will try to post tomorrow.

There is a BIG difference between being shown drinking and being shown as a drunkard. And if he used to smoke a lot than so be it. Maybe Manjrekar has been brutally truthful.
I really can't understand why this controversy has come up. The basic thing was that Pu La enjoyed every moment of his life and that is what has been shown.

it is possible that a political party wants to pull this movie down because they want to release their own movie next week.

Or maybe it could also be a publicity stunt to increase the viewership in the second and third week of release. One never knows.

for that they won't criticise their own movie so much that people will think not to see it. Also it blames Mahesh manjrekar heavily. It also says pu.la would have called it vichitrapat.
