In the beginning we only had two channels DD national & DD metro only people in the city had access to these. Then came channels like zee & star plus. It had a wider reach of audiences.

Also at that time TV was at it's nascent stage. There were a lot of talented people. It was after our freedom. That time there was a new thought. Women too were shown out of the house in different professions. Of course there was family soaps too. But lot of subjects were being explored.

Then one woman came on the scene & changed the course of Television. People were drawn to these soaps. Seeing the success of these soaps other producers followed suit. And pretty soon we got one type of family drama only.

By the time anyone came up with quality content it was too late. They registered low trps. Audiences were addicted to these type of soaps. Crib as they like any deviation from that genre they found it boring.

So in short the producers were at fault before but now it's the audience that decides the content. And nobody till date is owning up to their choices.

Is that woman Ekta Kapoor? I heard of her. Up until the 1990's - early 2000's, Indian TV was really good until she came along and ruined everything by imposing her will.

@bold 2

I remember you telling me this before. These audiences want to see only cliched crap and the blame the producers when even they - the audiences - are equally, if not more, at fault here. And when people like us want something more innovative and interesting, we get accused of things like going against culture or not believing in God and good. Ridiculous! I have heard that there are still some quality shows on TV, which I have seen. And as I once said before, there are writers who actually do show different and interesting content instead of the boring cliched crap.

Too bad. I have watched some episodes of Zee Horror Show as well as Shh Koi Hai and Shh Phir Koi Hai on YouTube a few years back and found those serials very interesting. But my all time favorites are Fear Files and Aahat. The writers of those serials actually had guts and showed awesome content in their shows. They did not allow themselves to be bullied by Ekta or the saas bahu audiences.

Yes. Well before 2000's she did have some good shows Itihas , Hum panch, Mano Ya na Mano. But when she officially came with Balaji productions things did go downhill from there. To be fair she did revive a lot of careers gave many people a break.

Today audiences are fully to blame. They are drawn to negativity. They love to get frustrated.

This generation has a regressive mindset compared to the generation before.

There's no two ways to it. Otherwise don't u think channels would stop producing such shows if audiences didn't want it. They are here to make money at the end of the day.

You are absolutely right. Those audiences who demand such toxic and regressive content are completely to blame for the state of Indian TV nowadays. Otherwise channels and TV producers will not show such crap. These saas bahu audiences have some kind of crab mentality, like they want everyone else to be just as miserable as they are. For example, before the Anamika serial even started in late November 2012, the aforementioned audiences saw the initial promos and started complaining that Anamika will be too scary, it will have a bad influence on their kids. Like their regressive garbage which they like to watch with all the toxic tracks and sequences never had a negative influence on kids?! As a result, the actual serial did not have the same spooky air or feel as the promos which were shown before and during the show's actual run. Do check out the promos as well as some of the actual episodes and you will see what I mean. There was a lot of moral policing and dirty politics during the show's run due to which it turned into crap. Basically the saas bahu audiences, the TRP aunties and others stop people like us from watching what we wanted to see, different and innovative stories, and force us to watch their boring cliched crap serials. Also in the last few years, notifications are shown on certain scenes in many shows. For example when a scene in which a woman is being abused, harassed etc is shown, there will be something which reads, "This channel does not support, but opposes atrocities against women. This scene is for dramatic representation only." I think most people knew that already. And of course there were some shows, as toxic as they were, which did raise awareness about atrocities against women, children, servants/maids, the elderly and disabled etc.

In other news, it looks like Siya many soon get to know Mohini's, aka Gopika's truth, as while Man was away at school, Mallika talked with Siya about how Gopika always hovers around Man and does not leave him alone for even a minute, thus planting the suspicion in Siya's mind about Gopika. And as par the precap for tomorrow's episode, Siya will find Man laying unconscious on bed in a room and question Gopika about what is going on there.

Well, Siya became Man's teacher after which she found out Mohini was causing fights between Man and another boy, Mallika got to know Mohini is now a human churail after small tussle between herself and Mohini and later found a spy cam with which Mohini was monitoring her with after which she proceeded to taunt Mohini. Then as par the precap for next week, Mohini will succeed in changing Man back to evil. Time for another break from this show, it looks like.

Well off to the movies before that i thought I'd give a quick reply. Give it a month plot will definitely pick up. You might actually enjoy it if u really give it a break & come back when the story picks pace.

Apart from our itv debate think think of other shows we can discuss too in addition to mohini.
