| Amit Behl with wife Vaibhavi | Amit Behl, who works in Zee's Mamta, recently entered the kiddie show, Chi and Me. Behl gets a decent dose of drama thanks to his television shows and plays, but the actor recently had to deal with real-life drama when he was tending to two patients — his wife, Vaibhavi, down with a back problem, and his mother, who had a knee replacement surgery. "It was a harrowing time, and I was literally in tears," recalls Amit. Vaibhavi has been suffering from constant backache for three-and-a half-years.
"She has been in pain for a long time and we have tried taking her to various doctors. But the treatment hasn't really worked."
Things took a turn when Vaibhavi was diagnosed with a growth in her stomach lining, which was causing the pain.
"She was unable to resume work due to this problem. However, the surgery was a success, and she is recovering. She's been offered a lot of Marathi serials and films, is exited to return to work," says Amit.
Mind elsewhere
The same day, Amit had to report for his Mamta shoot. "We don't have a bank of episodes, so there was no way I could have bunked the shoot. I got her admitted to the hospital, and went to my set. I was praying and hoping throughout, for her operation to be a success."
Mom's 'knee'ds
Behl's woes didn't end there. The actor also had to attend to his mother, who was undergoing a knee replacement operation.
"In 1998, she met with an accident and injured her knees. During Vaibhavi's surgery, I also had to take care of my mom, after her knee operation. Apart from this, I was also doing my plays and shooting for Mamta."
Dabbling in theatre
On the theatre front, Behl is doing Paritossh Painter's Kya Kahein Control Nahi Hota, and Dinesh Thakur's Topi Shukla.
"Theatre has been an outlet for me to do something different from television. It's where one gets the satisfaction of being a true actor."
Amit will soon be seen in a new production. "Yes, I am working on something new on stage. Things will fall into place in a while," says the actor. |
