My point was that Gollum is a beaten creature, consumed by his craving for the ring, which has in effect hollowed him out, like heroin does with an addict. Even in his prime, he was just a commonplace creature. Naanu is like a ganglord, which is quite different. All gangsters are cunning cheats, but that does not make them beaten wretches like Gollum. I am afraid I do not buy this at all.
