My dear Adiana,

That is an intriguing parallel, but Nandi has now been abruptly and very unpleasantly cashiered, and the ambiguous Maya does not seem to be anyone's idea of Gauri. I am however waiting to see which way that cat on the wall jumps - devious deceiver or innocent deceived?

Forgot to add - to my mind the Maimui trying to bring Maya and Rudra closer seems more of Nandikeshwar's efforts for bringing Shiva and Gauri closer - Rudra is being presented like the aloof and in agitation Shiva who needs to be calmed and made to connect with the world - but the writer perhaps may not be aware that this needs a Mohini more than a Maya - his past credentials of having written for Mahadev not withstanding

My dear Kiran,

I am pleased that you liked this one, and I agree with your observations, especially about Maya, and the very ill-advised exit of Maimuyi. You might have seen my brief takes on the Monday and Tuesday episodes on pages 4/5 of this thread, where I have discussed the latter point in some detail.

I still do not know what to make of Maya, but I remembered her saying, when she is making that call from the police station, Humne aapko bataya tha na. and then she only gives the details of the Su-Inspector and the Police Station. She does NOT mention Rudra, or even the trouble he is in.

Despite this, when Swami Balivesh contacts a police higher up and gets orders passed to release Rudra, clearly the correct details have been passed on by the Swami to the police boss. This can only mean that Maya has discussed Rudra with her Mamaji earlier, which in turn has sinister implications.

If, as seems likely, the apparently scatter-brained Greek girl is also a Rakshak, given that Prof. APG Rao wants to check her credentials from her bag, she must be having an entirely different persona with at least some supenormal powers. Let us see.

Thank you Shyamalaji for the summary of last week's episodes and accompanying analysis.

My observations are:
Maya is up to something, cos when she first introduced herself she said,'Maya hou mein".
If she is meant to be Rudra's calm, she does not seem to fit the bill.
The sudden change from animosity to friendship because she had an asthma attack is way to unreal. Rudra going around with her is not realistic given his sullenness and drawn back nature.
As for the twists and turns in the plot, they make MK special and worth seeing, since it is not the usual saas bahu thing usually presented.
As for Maimui imminent death, if it is true, then the director has gone crazy as there is no way Maya can fill in the void.
As for the other rakshak, I understand a lady will soon be on the scene and she will be one of the five.
That is the beauty of MK, the mystery around Rudra is being slowly unveiled, Now it will be up to the protagonists to do justice to this serial.

Thank you so very much, my dear Vinnie, I am delighted that you enjoyed this one so much.

You and I are of a mind re: the Maya-Rudra relationship. It does seem forced and unduly fast forwarded, and thus lacking in credibility. The only good thing is that they have continued to show him as completely shut away from her and all else after Maimuyi's murder, and she is not able to reach out to him at all.

The bit I liked best in the last 2 episodes of this past week was the conversation between Shivanand and the Cardinal. It was deep and meaningful, for both are big men with big ideas, however twisted the Cardinal's might be, whereas Grierson is just a flunkey.

You might also like to take a quick look at my mini-takes on the first 2 episodes, 17&18, on pages 4/5 above. I hope to get my usual weekly analysis up tomorrow, Sunday.

Your last point is a vital one. Like a fine essay, a good finite serial has to begin well and end well. Mahakumbh has crossed the first hurdle, now it remains to see what they do with the concluding part. I hope they do not muck it up, which is, unfortunately, all too easy to do!

Beautiful analysis... thank you for the PM.! an informative and insightful post..I will admit I have some catching up to do in the show last i saw was The "mela" episode. where he said sorry.! lol.

I still think Maya's apparanace was a little abrupt. And I agree with you they are unnatuarrally trying to push them together. It is cute watching Maaye Moui play cupid., and her concerns is of course understandable...but thier friendship development should have been a little more natural. It took Rudra years to open up to Maaye and udiya baba about about the blast...i don't think he would so easily open up to some one he literally just met and was just pestering him!!!

Glad to know Shivanand is finally coming to India...but I am shocked and saddened by news of Maay moui's impending death...Another blow to Rudra and another loss of a great character...
I know it is a finite series but i do hope it is not just rushed but played out logically...it got off to a superb start hope they maintain it!

My dear Aparna,

I am very pleased that you liked this one so much, including the Take 5.

I am firmly of the view that eliminating Maimuyi in this brutal and abrupt fashion was uncalled for and will be counter-productive. They could have found some other way of getting Rudra to the Mahakumbh, and in any case, no way can Maya replace her, either in Rudra's mind or in ours!

As for the Maya conundrum, do see my response above to Kiran.

Thank you Shyamalaji for your post. Love your analysis and I specially liked your Take 5. I liked all these scenes too. Precap for next week looks interesting. Rakshaks and bad guys all getting ready to come to Mahakumbh.

I'm still not very impressed with Maya-Rudra. Liked the song picturisation on them. But I still find the intro of Maya abrupt. the sudden interest in Rudra, all over him, the friendship, too rushed. Like you said accompanying her to college was unnecessary except to show him hold her hand, her dialogue, the fight. And as per articles Maya-Rudra to fall in love at the cost of Maimui's life makes it more unnecessarily rushed I feel. Still hoping to see some story unfold about Maya's sudden appearance and interest in Rudra.

Looking forward to all the twists and turns in the story, but Maimui's impending death makes no sense right now. Let's see how it is justified..

My dear Ranou,

I am very, very pleased that you enjoyed this one so thoroughly, for where would I be without discerning and generous readers like you?

I too loved the scenes you have mentioned, which is why they were in my Take 5.

As for DNA from the blood bit, my carping about it was partly tongue in cheek, but also I felt that the cut was not bleeding heavily, and Pandey could not have got more than a quick swab from it as he cannons into Rudra. Incidentally, what if the slash had been on his back??😉

The rustic Pandey must be really clued up on how to handle such a small quantity of blood, which must, morever, have seeped into the cloth, efficiently and despatch it to 2 different places, the Indian lab and to Grierson in Poland. But once he manages that, I am sure the labs would be able to cope.

Alas for your hopes and mine, my dear. Our wonderful Maimuyi is really, truly cold and dead. I was disgusted by the brutality of the scene, apart from my distress at her being cashiered so unwisely. You would have seen that from my mini-posts on the Monday and Tuesday episodes on pages 4/5 above.

As for the Maya conundrum, I am still of two minds about her, but do see the point I have made in my response above to Kiran.

Once again, thanks for being such an unfailing morale booster!

thanks thanks thanks shyamala for this post, what a treat!! i had a looot of pleasure while reading it.
i agree for the most, there was some things not required at all, and it was a real treat watching two things: Seema and Rode while he was in her arms what a perfection this Rode and his expressions (when he wants he does! LOL) i really had tears in my eyes. And second scene when seema removed her glasses telling the story of his beloved rudra and hidden tears, how it shows her concern for him and his boundless love, I really cried. she is TOP
However, I disagree with you on some things, including:
the interpretation of ADN, I have found no problems watching this, firstly because I know that through a simple ear stem filled with a small piece of plaque from the mouth of anybody we can detect his ADN, so why not a piece of cloth filled with blood which can be divided in half and send his half at Poland, we see this in American films, why not here? I find it very normal. and apart from all this, I know already I am watching a show that is based on the mythology so I know I'll see imaginary things, you say it yourself, why not ADN of superhero, this is the basis of this story .
one more thing I am not at all convinced that May muy going to die, I feel that it is just stunt to attract the curiosity of viewers and advertising. she has an essential role in the story of Rudra, she can't die, or I'll die with her LOL 😉 if it's just to get rudra maya close, well they are already close enough.
last thing, you are not convinced that Maya is the femme fatale, well I do, her story is very suspicious, come like this following everywhere a man whom she barely knows, i dont think that such things can escape like this with writers, there is something dubious in all this,I am convinced that she is not at all the innocent and sweet women, or i hope so!if it's not, it's really indeed!!!!! I hope wholeheartedly that's so!😭 anyway lets watch and see and enjoy the week and your review evry week-end
I can't thank you enough for this post, you are one of the best offers we had with this show

Oh Lord, my dearest Mandy, what a lukewarm take on the show! But thanks a ton for your generous words about this post.

Mandy, most shows do not have even a couple of average actors, and the very lucky ones, like our favourite till recently, have one superlative one and that is it. Two of the superb actors in Mahakumbh, Robin Das and, much more, Seema Biswas, have departed, which is bound to leave a huge void that this Maya cannot fill, far from it. That leaves the remaining Rakshaks, and Rudra's Dadi, the redoubtable Surekha Sikri, who is another powerhouse performer.

Since when have you started depending on feedback from others before deciding to watch this or any other show properly?

Plus there is no point in watching Mahakumbh in bits and pieces. You might as well drop it, for this way, you will invariably miss the scattered gems, like the deep and meaningful conversation between Shivanand and the Cardinal. Both are big men with big ideas, however twisted the Cardinal's might be, so they talk to each other as intellectual equals, whereas Grierson is just a flunkey.

Affectionately,

Shyamala

My dear Faria,

Thanks a lot for the very kind words, especially the "as usual"!😉

I cannot make out any valid reason for Maimuyi's uncalled for and ill-considered exit, and that too in such a brutal fashion. Do see my mini-posts on the Monday and Tuesday episodes on pages 4/5 above, pending the putting up of my weekly analysis tomorrow, Sunday.

My dear Sri,

This is all very well, but how can you allow yourself to miss out on the Maimuyi-Rudra scenes and pretend that my posts are an adequate replacement? They are no such thing.

Seema Biswas' Maimuyi is a treat for the mind and the heart alike, and you are depriving yourself of something amazingly beautiful and moving. Do go to the Star Plus website and watch the first 18 episodes that have been telecast til Tuesday last without fail, for after Episode 18, Maimuyi becomes a memory, no more. I lambasted Utkarsh Naithani, the writer, for this, whom I know very well, and he has carefully ducked answering to my irate message!

Oh, as I wrote to Shreya on my last thread, I like instant retribution, and not only to those harassing the heroine, but also to lowlife thugs oppressing anyone weak and helpless. But the fake gunda bashing you have referred to happens quite often in the movies, and at times, the beating up becomes too real and the gunda - in the case when he is hired for the job and is not an unfortunate friend!😉- demands extra payment!😉

Akka - Thanks for the PM - I did read this post of yours fully - Now beginning to have a good character sketch of the serial even though I have not watched one single episode - But I will continue to follow your posts - It is a lot of fun reading it without watching the serial. I am liking it this way.

BTW, never knew you like hero bashing goons to rescue heroine - I liked this bit in your take for this week. There are a hundred novel ways in which this scene can be pictured. ANd if they can add some humor in it, it is so good. But this is one scene where even the actor adds to the stage in addition to Director.
There was a movie called Pandiya naadu in 2013 - Tamil in which the hero puts up an act of bashing the goons( he himself set up - They are all his friends) to impress the girl 😃😆 - Was shot humorously - Even the movie was good .
Liked the Take 5, which shows how much you get into the story to do a scrambling analysis - Nice one - Liked it a lot. The hero's sudden warm up to heroine and your coverage was good - I like scenes like this - he he he - Anything on the emotional side of hero-heroine moves me . 😆
Will look forward to your next week's take.

My dear,

Even before thanking you adequately for your warm words about this post, let me pat you on the back for having raised that very pertinent point @blue. After I read your post, I was metaphorically kicking myself for having missed it myself!😉

The only possible explanation is that it is the garuda chinn that is self-healing,not Rudra's body per se. Remember the wounds on the teenage Rudra's wrists and arms after he has fought his way out of captivity? They did not auto-heal either.

I am going to take a while before I get over the loss of Seema Biswas and her Maimuyi, though the redoubtable Surekha Sikri as Rudra's Dadi might be quite good, even if not as superb. Maimuyi is a very tough act to follow.

As for the quality of the story telling being kept up, that remains to be seen.Like a fine essay, a good finite serial has to begin well and end well. Mahakumbh has crossed the first hurdle, now it remains to see what they do with the concluding part. I hope they do not muck it up, which is, unfortunately, all too easy to do!

Lovely and detailed analysis...will def keep a look out for future ones...

My take-- MK started out really well and hope it continues to tell its story wthout any pressures and TRP challenges... Really hope the writers n CVs are able to tell the story as they intended...

Maimui-- absolutely love her and I was hoping she would be here for a longtime...she is like the backbone of the story n Rudra...Seema Biswas is just amazing...

Inconsistencies--- teenage Rudra's wounds self healed quickly
( when he tried to whip his Garuda tatoo) but adult Rudra little scratch needs bandages!! Maybe I am missing something or this was just so the villian's could get a blood sample...and discover its superhuman qualities!!!

Anyway am enjoying the serial and hope it continues to thrill us...
