If her and Dhrishtadyumna were part of a mining community and/or Angirasa brahmins, Drupada's adoption of them might have been a power move itself. Access to the latest technology. Only, armor making wasn't as easy as weapon making, since it had to fit body contours.

Perhaps, the duo was part of a mining community. Or owned mines.

Actually karn was demon in his previous life , he was having 100 armours given by lord Surya , nar narayan destroyed 99 armours , this armour was last one, that's why lord Surya dint gave him any other armour.

It needed to be pretty customized to be a complete body fit. Epic says it changed size with Karna. It would have been a proper body fit. I think one needed to give measures for such customized armours (like you give to Tailors) and would have taken time, when Sun God came he definitely didn't have the actual measurement so couldn't get.

He might have brought a few but they wouldn't have been as customised as the original one which was prepared by measurements, because Karna does adorn external armours after his real ones are taken away

I found Ahem slightly laid down he lacked the self confidence of Karna, not sure if it was acting flaw or wrong characterization

What if we remove the divine part and treat Karna as a human?

1 It could be a steel armor

2 It could be a symbol

The demon story isn't anyway mentioned in Mahabharata epic in itself so I don't believe in it completely

If it was just a symbol then Indra wouldn't have gifted a weapon to Karna in lieu of it, it definitely was something.

It would have been steel/superior metalled customized armour
