Arjun side glanced her and asked ." Are you sure you don't bother queen? "

Panchali understood his naughtiness.

Panchali bit her lower lip and muttered." Years passed but your stubbornness did not change.

She took his hand and pulled him up and started walking .

Arjun smiled and said." Be honest Krishnaa atleast with your soulmate.

Uttara acknowledged his complement with a smile that has inherent sadness in it. She said." You also stood against your father and proved your skill. It is not an easy task to do what you did."

Babhru nodded his head." What no one knows is it happened by destiny. My father hardly lifted his Gandiv despite me showering arrows on him.The arrow that struck him did not prove my skill. The curse of Vasus did the trick. Ignorant people think Arjun was defeated by his son. "

Uttara agreed." That is the fact.Abhimanyu always said that he was able to obtain hundredth part of his father 's expertise."

Chitra asked Ulupi. Tomorrow onwards the actual Aswamedha will commence.Our husband will get

busy and won't be awailable for us.Shall we ask him to be with us today?"

Ulupi is in confusion.Arjun may have work even then.But Chitra will be disappointed if she can't get an opportunity to be with Parth.She wondered where he must be.She asked Malini who came there to carry out Panchali's instructions.' Where is Rajkumar Arjun?"

Malini told them he is with Panchali listing out the gifts that are to be given to guests. Ulupi thanked her and pulled Chitra to Yamuna river where the sacrifice is going to be done.

As they walked by the sacrificial place they found Vyasa's desciples extracting Soma Ras. Some other Brahmins are decorating the sacrificial pillar to which the Aswamedha horse will be tied and worshipped.The sacrificial pit from which the fire God will rise higher is quite spacious. Round the pit many beautiful structures were drawn in different colours.

They both appreciated the arrangements and remembered the Rajasuya experience.After a while they entered Panchali's hermitage . Arjun raised his head and greeted them with a smile. Panchali invited them politely and offered them seats.She felt bad as they have to come all the way to meet Arjun.She just then asked him to return to the palace but he did not listen.Why would he listen? He should finalise the gifts list as per his Eldest's order.

Arjun addressed Chitra." I hope you won't feel bad as I am busy with this work. Krishnaa needs help. So bear with me."

Chitra wondered. Years back she heard him pronounce Krishnaa with so much love and passion. Again she is hearing it.The love stayed intact. The passion still as fresh as ever.

Ulupi answered on behalf of Chitra." We just came to have a look at this sacred place.tomorrow onwards it will be crowded. So..."

Panchali said with hesitation." The list is finalised. His work is completed. I am just asking him to return to the palace and relax.You can go together."

Arjun insisted. I still have to check the final list.it takes time Chitra Ulupi I will be back by dinner time. "

Chitra stood up to leave.Panchali stood up to see them off.But she lost her balance Arjun stopped her from falling " The real trial begins tomorrow. You need energy and strength. But you hardly eat anything.You are not asked to starve yourself.But you never listen."Arjun's concerned voice brought tears in Panchali's eyes. Chitra pulled Ulupi and walked out.

Arjun made her sit freely and reprimanded ." Madhav told me how you tortured your body by doing vrat.On top of that these formalities.Krishnaa take care of yourself.See how weak you look."

Panchali smiled happily and pleaded with him." Go to your Chitra. She will feel bad."

Arjun is firm." She will stay here permanently. She will cope up with situation.I will not move till you eat your night food.well. "

Panchali sighed with mixed feelings. She is pleased with her Arjun's love but she knew Chitra's feelings.Arjun pushed her curls back and made her drink water.Krishna and Satya entered together and shouted." Well done Parth."

Arjun still sad thinking of Pavan's sacrifice expressed his displeasure." What is so good in getting human birth ? Instead Pavan should have got to live his full life as a horse."

Krishna said." Parth' the life span of horses is less than humans.Pavan would have lived a couple of years more but now he will be blessed with great fortune.Think of it and feel contented."

Krishna looked at Panchali and stressed." Kalyani , help your husband to get over his resentment. When Eldest offers Pawan at the altar all his brothers should wholeheartedly stand together for the offering. Otherwise Aswamedha purpose won't get ulfilled." He hugged Arjun and said tongue in cheek" grow up Parth. I am going Satya is waiting"

Arjun stared at his friend walk away majestically.The peacock feather and yellow garment disappeared in darkness.Panchali touched Pawan and smiled. Then she pulled Arjun and started for her hermitage.

Listen to Govind Arjun, He will never. Let any wrong thing happen. Don't you remember how he startedGovardhan Puja not fearing your father's wrath? He blessed Pavan to get human birth. It is good for Pavan no?" Panchali tried to convince Arjun.

Arjun nodded his head and said." My association with the horse makes me feel bad. But Madhav knows what is right. Now eat your meal. Arya is waiting for you."

And Chitra is waiting for you.Go now.Lest she will come again." Panchali pouted.

Arjun smiled and teased." Some one said that she won't feel bad to share." Panchali's face turned red. She looked away and said." I am not feeling bad to share. I just reminded you that's all."

Arjun stopped and turned her to him. The moonlight is falling on them. Panchali's face looked as fresh and beautiful as he felt years ago in Kampilya.He knew her love her possessiveness nothing changed. She pretends . "

Look at me queen. Your eyes will reveal your truth."

Panchali slowly raised her eyes and looked at him . Why is she not satisfied even after years of togetherness? Her love for him make her insecure and intolerant towards his other wives. And he knows it. She bit her lip and threw his curls back. " if your scrutiny is done shall we go? She asked.

Arjun laughed and moved faster with his Krishnaa to reach the palace.

"Vaisampayana said, 'Having cooked, according to due rites, the other excellent animals that were sacrificed, the priests then sacrificed, agreeably to the injunctions of the scriptures, that steed (which had wandered over the whole world). After cutting that horse into pieces, conformably to scriptural directions, they caused Draupadi of great intelligence, who was possessed of the three requisites ofmantras, things, and devotion, to sit near the divided animal. The Brahmanas then with cool minds, taking up the marrow of that steed, cooked it duly, O chief of Bharata's race. King Yudhishthira the just, with all his younger brothers, then smelled, agreeably to the scriptures, the smoke, capable of cleansing one from every sin, of the marrow that was thus cooked. The remaining limbs, O king, of that horse, were poured into the fire by the sixteen sacrificial priests possessed of great wisdom.

This is the way Vyasa described the offering of the horse. I just want to give the original reference so that the way the Aswamedha has been done will become clear to us.

Now the story continues.

The Aswamedha sacrifice continued with due formalities in the process exactly ordained by sastras. Ved Vyas helmed the event without compromise with the help of hundreds of Brahmins offering him support in every way.

Then the crucial part of the sacrifice offering of Pawan the horse that went round the earth under the protection of Arjun happened. The horse was tied up to the sacrificial pillar and killed and offered by Brahmins and Rishis . Along with that other animals also were offered on that occasion. The five brothers stood with folded hands praying to the Almighty. Panchali was made to sit near the parts of body of the horse Pawan.

Yajnaseni controlled her emotions and prayed for the horse with moisture in her eyes. She did not dare to look at Arjun who is standing just behind her.

Krishna stood behind Arjun giving him moral support. Arjun closed his eyes and prayed." Please help Pawan atleast in ascending Devine places. He is the one because of whom We Pandavas got the fruit of Aswamedha. Please take my merit also if any I achieved till now. Please grace Pawan with peace happiness and everything he deserves."

Granted Parth. You pray and I won't oblige? Anyway you need not worry. Pawan achieved everything on his own merit."Krishna whispered in a low voice. Arjun looked into his smiling eyes and found solace. His Madhav will never leave Pawan . He will grace him for sure. Arjun sighed with relief.

The sacrifice was done with great splendour. After King Marut no other King had done the sacrifice like Yudhishtir did. At the end Yudhishtir bowed before Ved Vyas and said." Venerable Sir! With your blessings We were able to complete this great sacrifice. Now I want to donate the whole earth conquered by my younger brother Arjun to you. I offer this with the approval of all my brothers."

Bheem,Arjun, Nakul and Sahadev said in one voice. " Please accept our Eldest's offering. We all submit ourselves before you."

Yudhishtir pleaded with Vyasa." Please accept the kingdom. We will retire to forest and lead our lives with peace. We have no interest in Royal pleasures."

Vyasa glanced at Krishna meaningfully. Krishna came forward and said in his ascertaining tone." Eldest! It is the duty of a Kshatriya to rule the earth. Rishi Vyas can not bear the burden of administration. I suggest you offer gold in place of your kingdom. Ved Vyas will accept that and distribute it as he wishes."

Vyasa donated one part of the gold he got from Yudhi to Brahmins till they all are satisfied. Another part was donated to Kshatriyas Vaisyas and Sudras. Another part is freely donated to every one around whoever came and visited the sacrificial place. The last part was given to Kunti by Vyasa as a token of his affection for her.

Kunti had tears in her eyes. She asked him why he is offering her a part of what he got .

Vyasa blessed her and said." Kunti I am proud of you.No one faced the troubles like you did.Your grit and determination in the face of adversity certainly makes you an ideal mother for generations to come. You offered Aryavarth an emperor like Yudhishtir, who will establish dharma on the earth. Your other sons are epitome of loyalty and devotion. Your Phalgun will get adored by future generations for his dedication,commitment, valour,nobility and goodness. Accept the gift I gave you and do whatever you want with it. "

Kunti offered all the gold to the King and asked him to use it for his people.
