Part 2
In the process of Lord Brahma's Creation of Devas, Asuras, Pitras and Human Beings, Tamasika Guna prevailed most and he rubbed his thighs and created Danavas. He assumed another Physical form whose predominance was of Satvika guna and created Devas. So it goes on and on as to how he created birds, cows, how Manasika putras came etc...

I am sure many would have heard the below

Sarvam vishnu mayam Jagat

which means the whole universe is filled with Vishnu.

If you look at the Universe it is pitch dark. The blue sky we see is due to scattering of light. Needless to Say Vishnu is dark. His Sister Parvati/Kali is black too !

When any object is consumed by fire, it becomes charred.
If that black residue is burnt again, it becomes white ash. White ash continues to remain white even when burnt again. This shows that white is the ultimate and black is proximate to it.
Science tells us that diamond and coal are basically one.
White and black are not mentioned in the seven primary colours (VIBGYOR - Remember the experiments with Prism in physics labs, rainbows).
So, white and black are not colours in actual sense. The primary colours get separated from the objects to which they are attached when subjected to the test of fire and the objects themselves turn black first and ultimately white. Similarly, in the mental and spiritual plane, the Ultimate Reality is Shiva, who is white, and proximate to Him is Parvati, who is dark/black.

When we test everything in the fire of jnana, or true knowledge, the residue is white Shiva.
Ash in the material plane corresponds to Shiva in the spiritual plane.
We smear ours bodies with the sacred ash to remind ourselves of Shiva , realization of the Ultimate truth.

BTW, Shiva and MahaLakshmi (consort of Vishnu) have connections just as Vishnu/Vaishnavi or Narayana/Narayani.

Ardram yakarineem yastim pingalam Padma Malinim (Sree Suktha - Rig Veda)

Ardra star is common to both .

Aaditya-varane tapsodi jato vanaspatistava Vrukshotha Bilvaha (Sree Suktha - Rig Veda)

MahaLakshmi's favorite is Bilva too ! Bilva is from her upper body.

Vishnu is full of atributes (Saguna Bramham), Shiva is formless - no attributes (Nirguna Bramham, we call him Shiva etc just for our understanding)

That's why Shiva is worshipped in linga form while Mahavishnu does all Alankara (with peacock feather , crown etc in avatars as well).
Mahavishnu /yoga maya creates the illusion (am I talking too much black and white ? Scientists are still trying to figure out more about Black holes ...)
Even if you read Ayurveda they would compare the Vatha, Pitta, Kapha to Bramha, Shiva and Vishnu (another interesting area not for today, some other day). Since he is Pitta (fire), there is thaara pathraa that constantly cools Shiva Linga by dripping water.

Linga is an interesting structure - pill shaped/ellipsoid - three-dimensional analogue of an ellipse. Don't we talk about elliptical orbits.

"Instead of being perfectly round like a globe, the universe might be a bit stretched in shape like a pill.
The newly proposed shape could be caused by a magnetic field that pervades the entire cosmos or defects in the fabric of space and time" researchers from NASA
. - google it out.

BTW I had the opportunity to work (as a researcher in Grad school) and interact with some professors/NASA scientists. Some of them truly appreciate our Vedic scriptures and in fact want to know more

I am not sure if some you folks have visited temple in Chidambaram (Sri Nataraja - cosmic dance). This is Aakasha Kshetra (representing Space) and one of the Pancha linga Kshetras (the rest being Kanchi- earth, Thiruvanaikoil - Water, Thiruvannamalai - Fire and Kalahastri - Wind/Vayu). You can see many foreigners here !

Chidambara Rahasyam is something folks especially in south would be more familiar. Why Rahasya/secret ? Shiva is in cosmic dancing form (Ananda Thandava) unlike a Linga. Of course there is a Spatika Linga that Sri Sankara had given.
What is the connect between Cosmos - Shiva ?

Wait for next part...

In TamilNadu, when you say temple (Kovil) , it refers to Srirangam for Vaishnavites and Chidambaram for Saivaites.

Both Srirangam and Chidambaram face south. South is considered direction of Kaal/Yama. Both these temples conveys the manifestation of Universe in subtle/suttle ways. Chidamabaram is split as Chit (Wisdom) + ambaram (Akasha/Space)

In Srirangam, Mahavishnu is in Yoga nidra - reclining posture on Adisesha. He is called Rangaraja. Before I proceed to write on Nataraja in Chidambaram, wanted to briefly highlight the greatness of Sri Ranganatha at Srirangam.

Beautiful verses from Bhagavath Dhyana Sopaanam by Sri Vedanta Desikan

AntharJyothi: Kimapi yaminaam
anjanam yoga dhrushte :
chintaa ratnam sulabhamiha na:
siddhi mokshaanurupam

The raising of Kundalini sakthi through Sushumna Naadi to SahasrAram and the darsanam of the Lord there in the form of a resplendent Jyothi is explained by Sri Desikan

Satva and Rajas were latent but Tamo gun had manifested and encircled the pure consciousness. This was Maha kali who had awakened as Yoga Nidra, by encircling the pure Easwara Tatva.
When Brahmaa worshipped Mother Kali, she left Vishnu as Tamo guna, removed his Yoga-Nidra and thus making the pure consciousness fully awakened. She is Yoga maya in dynamic form aided in the manifestation of the Universe. Hence Divine mother is known as Adi Shakti.

Nataraja Temple at Chidambaram:
Vedas are called Nigamas and the scriptures that talk about construction of temples, design /creation of idols, structures etc. are Agama. Agamas are not from Vedic text they are called tantric.

Nataraja temple built in Shaiva Agama principle, has 5 prakaras (pathways) each separated by Walls within the other. The inner most is the abode of Lord Shiva/Nataraja. The 5 prakaras represent the 5 Kosas/ sheaths as below. Ananda Valli/Bhrugu valli from Taittriya upanishad would explain these Kosas so beautifully, amazing to chant too :)

1. The outermost is the Annamaya kosa , symbolizing the material body.
2. The second is Pranamaya kosa , symbolizing the sheath of vital force or prana.
3. The third is Manomaya kosa, symbolizing the sheath of the thoughts, the mana
4. The fouth is the Vignyana maya kosa, symbolizing, the sheath of the intellect
5. The fifth and innermost is the Ananda maya kosa, symbolizing the sheath of Bliss.

anando brahmetivyajanat.h
anandadhyeva khalvimani bhutani jayante (Taittriyam )

The sanctum which is in the prakara symbolizing the Ananda Maya Kosa sheath ,houses the lord, seated as the Jiva within us. It is to be noted that the sanctum is an unlit space, just as if within the heart closed on all sides.

Nataraja gives darshan from the sanctum called Chit Sabha with a golden roof.

Details of Sanctum :
1. The roof has 26,000 golden tiles, denoting the number of breaths of a person in a day.
2. These tiles are fixed to the wooden roof with the help of 72,000 nails depicting the number of nadis (the invisible ducts carrying energy to various parts of the body)
3. As the heart is to the left of the body, the sanctum in Chidambaram is also aligned slightly leftward.
4. On top of the Chit sabha roof, we find nine kalasas (made of copper) depicting the nine shaktis (powers). They also say 9 orifices in our body
5. The roof has 64 cross wooden reapers denoting the 64 arts.
6. The artha mandapa has six pillars denoting the six shastras/ 6 Vedangas
7. The mantapa next to the artha mantapa has eighteen pillars symbolizing the eighteen puranas.
10. There are five steps leading to the Chit sabha from the Kanaka sabha depicting the five lettered Panchakshara mantra ( Na ma chi vA ya)
11. The Chit sabha roof is supported by four pillars symbolic of the four Vedas.

Symbolism of Nataraja :

A cobra uncoils from his lower right forearm, and the crescent moon and a skull are on his crest. He dances within an arch of flames. This dance is called the Dance of Bliss, ananda tandava.

Nataraja's dance is said to indicate the five divine acts which are
1. Creation (Shristi): Nataraja dances with a small drum called damarukam in one of his right hands. Easwra is nada brahmam. He is the origin of all sounds (nadam). This is the seed from which the tree of the Universe emanated.
2. Protection (Sthithi)- In another of the right hands, he shows the Abhaya Mudra, meaning he is the kind protector .
3. Destruction (Samharam) : He has fire on his top left hands , symbolizing destruction. When everything is destroyed by fire, only the ash will remain which the Lord has
smeared on his body.
4. The right foot which is planted on demon shows the act of removing ignorance. He will be pressing the Apasmara (small dwarf demon which represents ignorance)
5. The raised left foot shows the act of bestowing

As the Lord of Dance, Nataraja, Shiva performs the tandava, the dance in which the universe is created, maintained, and dissolved. Shiva's long, matted tresses, usually piled up in a knot, loosen during the dance and crash into the heavenly bodies, knocking them off course or destroying them utterly. The surrounding flames represent the manifested Universe. Also, the circle of fire/flames symbolizes the cycle of transmigration/suffering the ego goes through(endless births and rebirths, before attaining salvation). The snake swirling around his waist is kundalini, the Shakti or divine force thought to reside within everything.

Devi Sivakama Sundari (divine Godess) is to his left. This not only symbolizes Ardhanareeswara , the Lord who has the female as his left half, but also the cosmic balance. To His right there is a screen. When the deeparadhana - showing camphor/ghee lamps encircling the takes place to Nataraja and to His right, When the screen is removed , we see five vertical long hangings of golden Bilva leaves. It is just empty dark space behind and around it - Akasha.

Sivakami shows the Saguna Brahman (the God with a form) that is Nataraja. The Saguna Brahman leads us to the Nirguna Brahman (the God without form or the God who has formlessness as his form).

Why golden Bilva leaves ?
Bilva leaves are trifoliate, three leaves representing Creation, protection, destruction. It also represents 3 gunas so on so forth. It has amazing medicinal properties, needless to say the complete plant root/stem/leaves are fruit are used to balance Vata/Pitta/Kapha. It has capabilities of removing negativities from our bodies.

Why Gold and significance of wearing gold ?
Next part 😊

SCIENCE and NATARAJA :
The Wave Structure of Matter Explains the Atomic Structure of Matter. The 'Particle' as the Wave-Center of a Spherical Standing Wave in Space" explains the cosmic dance of Nataraja."

"Modern physics has shown that the rhythm of creation and destruction is not only manifest in the turn of the seasons and in the birth and death of all living creatures, but is also the very essence of inorganic matter," and that "For the modern physicists, then, Shiva's dance is the dance of subatomic matter "

The profound significance of the metaphor of Shiva's dance for the cosmic dance of subatomic particles,is observed and analyzed by CERN's physicists (European Center for Nuclear Research, Switzerland). The parallel between Shiva's dance and the dance of subatomic particles was first discussed by Fritjof Capra in an article titled "The Dance of Shiva: The Hindu View of Matter in the Light of Modern Physics ".

There are many articles on the web, You can google out more on CERN ,Shiva/quantum physics if interested.

Dance Contest between Nataraja and Maha Kali :

The Nritta Sabha is the shrine in the form of a ratha or chariot, pulled by two stone horses. It is situated opposite the Chit Sabha, in the third courtyard.
It is the place of the dance contest between Nataraja and the Goddess Kali.
It's an interesting story and also science 😊

More to come...

p.s there are so many things to write, I have tried/ am trying to cover the main ones.
