Khushi there are different references.
But one I read thru..clearly mention. Karna means he was born through the ear when she chanted mantra. Hence he was named that...one who is born thru the ear.

This is cited from the context of all Gods and sages etc appear in two sides of Karna & Arjuna, in the battle. At this, Brahman and Isana replied unto the chief of the celestials, saying-- "The victory of the high souled Vijaya is certain, of that Savyasaci who gratified the eater of sacrificial libations in the forest of Khandava and who, coming to heaven, rendered assistance to thee, O Sakra! Karna is on the side of the Danavas. It is proper, therefore, that he should meet with defeat. By this, without doubt, the purposes of the gods will be achieved. One's own business, O chief of the celestials, should always be important.".(source-KMG)

Again when Arjuna aims Anjalika-- " Indeed, seeing that weapon raised (for being sped) in that dreadful battle, the Rishis loudly cried out, "Peace be to the universe!".(source-KMG)


Now my questions.

1. What was the purpose or business of the Gods which was possible only with Karna's death? Why they all (including gods and sages) wanted to get Karna killed, instead of him always serving them? There are no mentions anywhere that he went against them. (I don't remember is more correct!)

2. Why these ungrateful sages (they used to get so many daanas from him) screamed 'peace to the universe' (like cheer girls) when he was about to get killed? Did he stop their pension or suspended what he had been giving to them? Or were they promised more than what he used to give them?

3. What made them say Karna was on the side of Daanavas? I never remember him supporting any Daanava, yet sorry for my ignorance if he had done that anytime.

None of these are clear. Nothing is mentioned in the book also. The description in the book itself seemed like they were desperately in need of Karna's death than Arjuna's victory. It is sure that he was not killed for any of his so called mistakes what people say. His death was rather a part of a universal celestial conspiracy which is untold or got whitewashed later on...If anyone has any other source to enlighten this darkness, kindly tell me why all of them unanimously and desperately wanted Karna to die.. Is it right if we assume they all together conspired and murdered him to save their 'business'...??
