I believe this Gandhari's boon legend was inspired by the story of Achilles' mother Hera making her newborn son's body invincible (except for his right foot by which she held him) by dipping him in river Styx - surprisingly this story too is a later folk lore and not present in Homer's work. In Homer Achilles' invincibility in combat is due to a divine armour, much like Karna's.

BTW Did I hear Ashwi telling Dury about some gyaan given by Angraaj in today's episode or was that Gandhaar Raj?

I think Gandhari's boon legend was added just to demean Duryodhan's warfare skill, Bhima was inferior to Duryodhana in Mace fight, maybe some people thought that how can a evil wretch ( Duryodhana ) can be superior to Bhima in mace, hence they added this to justify Duryodhan's unfair killing and Bhima's inability to gain an upper-hand.

Achilles came after Duryodhan... So I guess Hera was inspired by Gandhari 😆

Btw I am Hector lover 😳

Today again Dury talked like Drau... "chale jao Mitra Ashwathama, mere nikat aaoge toh jal jaoge"

Drau - "ruk jayiye Rajmata kunti, Mujhe sparsh mat kijiye... Me Malin. Ho jaungi" 😛

Its a nice paradox.

Duryodhan was superior to Bhima in mace fight, Bhima was superior to Duryodhan in strength.

Now lets think, why was Bhima superior to Duryodhan in strength? - When Dury and Bhima were children, Duryodhan tied a sleeping Bhima and threw him into the river, Bhima was given the strength of 10,000 elephants. So, yes - Duryodhan himself was the reason for his death. Had Duryodhana not thrown Bhima into the river, Bhima would never have got this much strength and would never have been able to kill him in a mace fight.
