The interpretation of Mahabarath varies but I think the gist remains the same. Gita is born due to Krishna and Arjun's conversation.
For me watching the epic moment between Guru Dron and Krishna on guru's role, what a child needs and a parents responsibility was beyond words...It's so relevant to the current times. When we try to protect my child/siblings are we really doing them a favour? By exposing their misdeeds are we really spoiling their future...these are the questions that play in my mind all the time. I really appreciate the conversation between GD and Krisna. No wonders elders always advise the younger generation to read Gita, ecspcially in time of need.

Totally agree with you! We as parents want to help our kids in their every decision, sometimes we do it for them. We want to make sure they do not fail in anything. We do not let them fall and learn. And in this day and age of technology - we keep on giving them what they ask for iphone, ipad, texting, facebook, videogames etc - without thinking do they need all this?

Infact since beginning i have always felt all Krishna's teaching pertains to all current situations...

Spot on. We try to ensure our kids/children are protected all the time, never allowing them to fall but in nature's law only when you fall, feel the pain, then you would know the important/value of each learnings.

We stay overseas, I got the next generation in my family hooked to the series. They watch it generally during the weekend online, their as well as my parents HIndi is a little murky, so they tend to re-watch when I'm around. I love the opportunity to explain the episodes and at the same time I'm learning too as the kids tend to ask pertinent questions.

Their whys are non stop. why Kunti gave away Karna? When she found out about Karna why she didn't take action? Why Karna joins the Kaurava's when he knows its not dharma? Why being the Lord, Krishna did not stop the war

Now that I have started reading the forum, I get more insight. Thank you to all the writers.

Yup same here - we watch mahabharat as family - and with great pride i explain to my 14 year old different expects or outlook of people at that time or why it is imporatnt to respect elders, listen to what elders advice, taking in consideration other ppl's feeling or importance of karma's etc. We are jains - Jainism is based on karma theory - so he finds it interesting when he connects the two...
