MB is a very complex story and has its roots in the past. Almost every major incident can be explained/justified by some curses, blessings in the past life. A lot of things can thus be attributed to fate/destiny.. Lot of things are orchestrated at opportune time so it makes wonder, MB advocates everything is pre-destined ?

I love that scene from Matrix.. When Keenu meets Oracle first time she tells him not to worry about the vase.. Keenu gets confused , swirls around to look for it and accidentally knocks the vase which breaks into pieces. Orcale smiles and says this vase..
"How do you know before hand that vase will be broken ?" Keenu inquires..
"More important question to ask is whether the vase would have broken if I had not mentioned about it." Oracle replies..

What is cause and effect ? The vase was broken because Keenu looked for it. and he looked ONLY because Oracle mentioned it..

On this forum, there are many who thinks everything in MB was Krishna Leela and he knew all results in advance. This means they believe in destiny and everything is pre-ordained.

In Karma siddhanta, we are told that we are bound to get paid in equal currency for all of our misdeeds. If we get duped in later life due to our past mistakes, does it not mean that someone else was forced to dupe to teach us lesson ?(I am not talking about physical disability) and now he is bound to suffer ? Then is it pre-ordained ?

Geeta does not seem to answer this (I must confess I have very little knowledge) and encourages us to do our duty and not to worry about fruits.. But it does not say anything one way or other..

What do you learned people think about this ? How to disprove the theory that everything is pre-ordained ?

I would like to conclude with a beautiful zen story..

A philosopher dreams that he was a butterfly.. In the morning he starts thinking.. Is he a man awake now, who dreamt of butterfly last night or Is he really a butterfly in sleep who is dreaming to be a man just now ?

Well.. one can always whistle and sing Que Sera Sera..

Its late night night for me and I dont do too good at philosophy even under a bright sun. Nevertheless, I will take a crack at it

God I think, gives us the blessing of free will. We are responsible for our actions and the consequences that follow. We ascribe blame to divinity when we fear the consequences and we ascribe divinity to strength when we dont understand it. But, while we can lie to ourselves, ultimately we do have to answer to God for our lives

No, things are not pre-ordained in the sense that there is only one possible outcome. We have been given options and the outcome depends on us

Enough to conk me out🥱

Thanks thearcher.. appreciate your reply.. What you said is my belief too.. But current readings even SB popped this question in my mind..

I love Matrix series and it talks of every human being conditioned, program.. intelligent but yet program who function in a set path.. Keenu was the one with "anomaly" in program..

In other terms.. they talked of fate/destiny.. So it made me wonder thats all..

a lovely post! ... similar thoughts do flash in our minds from time to time ... and boggles the mind..
credit to cots (guess i can call u that 😆) for articulating and projecting it so well

MB is indeed very deep, complex and detailed! ... everyone has his/her version of turmoils, a previous birth story, curses plus various myths about them ... but as a reader its very intriguing i must say!

from my limited understanding of things ... i believe that MB was a Krishna leela ... i see Lord Krishna sitting and making a puzzle ... just putting all the pieces together ... all the characters with their burdens of this life and the previous life put together defining their moment and destiny ... a puzzle as it fits it gives lessons ... meaningful lessons!

but in today's world... maybe its a little bit of everything ... i cannot be very certain tho ... we just have to be thankful for what has God has given us ... hold our heads high and do good karma

wonderful post ... makes one think! ... well done!! 👏

cots I agree. let us say the script is pre destined for a moment. but I believe its human who is responsible for fruits of his actions. many times its easy to blame god did this or that but noone thinks that it was his/her mistakes or decisions that led to that particular outcome. evenif script is written its upto characters how they play their part.that's the actual test.

Exactly...😛

Varaali, don't tell me you missed out on the epi when (Star)Krishna told (Star)Panchali -
"Tumhare paanch patiyon ko chhodkar Maharaj Shantanu ke saare kul ke deepak bhuj jaayenge iss yudh mein..."
And that is how (Star)Panchali got prior info about the outcome of the war from her sakha.

But all of it seems quite weird to me...

On the one hand, (Star)Krishna actually reveals the outcome of the war to (Star)Draupadi beforehand...

But, on the Kurukshetra battlefield, Arjun gets all panicky about the consequences of the war, but Krishna tells him - "Karmanye vaadhikaaraste..."

Different strokes for different folks?

Thanks TomNJerry and ShrishtiSIngh for your comments.. So you feel its not pre-ordained and we decide our own future within framework of Karmic laws.
But do you think MB also preach the same ? As thearcher rightly pointed out SB is very clear on this. Drau s already told everything.
Varaali, in Geeta, Lord shows all Kauravas (including Karna. Bheeshma) etc being dead already and also points to Arjuna that he is safe from all this. He asks Arjuna to slay who are already dead.. Does it not indicate that the fate is already sealed/pre-decided ?

nice post, cots, before we talk about the feuture, i must ask,is feuture realy easiely forseeable? why shal we look at it? why shouldn't we do our own tasks or follow our duties? "jo bhi hogaa shubh hi hogaa sab usi ki yojanaa."
