Does Mahabharat belong to one religion only?

Yes everyone, this is what my question is to everyone in this forum. And yes I know that everyone reader might be thinking why did I pickup such a controversial topic but I couldn't resist. The reason is my friends.

As all of you might have already understood that I am a Christian by my actual name i.e. Angela Grokes which I write at the end of the post and also because I write posts in English only.

Now, first let me clear that I have no intention to give rise to any critical conflict arising topic but only want to keep my views.

The thing is that I have some friends(not on India forums but they are my real friends) who asked me that why am I watching and discussing a show that is based on Hindu texts. When I asked them whats the problem in it they said "Because you are not Hindu.". I was shocked on what they said. If I am not wrong we are living in 21st century where such rifts between two religious groups have been sorted.

Moreover, let me tell you everyone that this is not the first forum where I am discussing Mahabharat . I have been discussing it other sites even before the show began. And in those sites when they came to know that I am a Christian they locked my account saying that only the Hindus are allowed to discuss here. And this is the kind of behavior I have seen not only on one but many more sites. Infact India-forums is the only site where people even after knowing that I'm a Christian have not even objected once but accepted me willingly. And I thank everyone for this.

In the Geeta sequence in the show Krishna said that "I am in everything, In every human" so why do people say that only Hindus can read and discuss Mahabharat .

I apologize from anyone who felt offended by my post because I know that its on a slightly sensitive issue.

Please do reply I am eagerly waiting to see what everyone thinks about me.

You have all rights to read Mahabharata. Don't listen to people who say, "You musn't read" or any such thing. Its entirely your wish.😊
And hm.. Mahabharata is not confined to one religion, because THEN there was no concept of "religion(s)" . Its only later that all that came. Therefore, nishchint hokar padho, sakhi.😃

Hi angela loved your post .In my opinion people who beleive Mahabharath is just for Hindus haven't either read or understood the essence of Geeta .The Vishwaroopam itself means all forms of life included in him...And Geeta is not for religious heads to read and follow it teaches one to become a perfect human being .It is a very false notion that Geeta is just for Hindus .I have many Muslim friends who take up Geeta classes and also have many christian friends in ISCKON ...It is sheer foolishness of half knowledged people to believe Mahabharath and Geeta is only for Hindus ...

Thank you vey much for replying!! Really very happy to read your reply but I just have a confusion - what do you mean by " nishchint hokar padho, sakhi". Do you mean "be free to read it , friend"?

a good question, the answer is, mahabharat is universal, the contents, the knowledge of this great epic belongs to each and every one. it is not limited to one particuler religion.

Mahabharata can't be constrained to a particular religion. It's mine, it's yours, it's everybody's. Those who attempt to constrain Mahabharata or Bhagavad Gita are fools who haven't yet realized the futility of their mentality. They don't seem to understand Gita at all.
