I love the book 'Conscience' and 'Hidden Gems'

Can we have some information about Sahadev? I know I sound a little dumb, maybe stupid. But I know very little about him. I have read Mahabharat, but I hardly found interesting things about Sahadev.

@Bheegi Your idea is very good. And I loved the write ups. 😊 Thanks for the thread. I will visit regularly for more discussions.

Thanks @Deboleena and @Brishti

Here is the citation on Sahdev (I have posted it in different versions thread too)

Sahadev - why he was so quiet

Of Great Fortitude When the five Pandavas were little boys, their father Pandu and their mothers Kunti and Madri lived in exile in the forest. Pandu brought his sons up in that austere secluded atmosphere, with only sages and ascetics for company. Every day Pandu would sit each his sons on his knee and teach them how to be honorable men. One day when Pandu sat Sahadev on his knee, he told his littlest boy this: "You must consume his father's brain"

Then Pandu died, and Madri, Sahadev and Nakula's mother, accepted death so that she could accompany her husband to the next realm. As Pandu lay on his pyre, the Pandava brothers stood with Kunti and watched. The fire was slowly eating it's way through the corpse and as Pandu's head burst from the heat, Sahadev saw his father's brain. To his child's mind he knew exactly what he had to do. It was his father's order. Without a word Sahadev ran up to the flames and reached in, plucking out the matter. While his elders yelled and shrieked, Sahadev took off

Krishna, meanwhile , was far away in Mathura but he knew what was happening. He also knew that if Sahadev managed to do what he wanted, it would be a disaster. Taking the form of an old sage, Krishna manifested himself near where Pandu's body burned and chased after Sahadev. But the little boy had already taken a bite of his father's brain. And with that bite he became enlightened about all that had happened in the history of the world. With a second bite, he became enlightened about all that was happening in the world. And with a third bite, he became enlightened about all that would happen in the future of the world. Sahadev became 'trikal gyani' - a knower of the three times - and even though he was only a little boy he realised that the old sage who was chasing him wasn't really an old sage but the Supreme Lord Himself. Sahadev stopped.

Krishna caught up with him, heaving an exasperated sigh for it was too late. Sahadev knew everything. "You must never reveal what you know," Krishna told Sahadev with a stern voice. But Sahadev wasn't a cheeky little boy for nothing. "What if someone asks me? I can't lie." "If someone asks you then you may tell them. But never tell them more than they ask. And never tell anyone that you know everything so they can ask you."

Sahadev considered this and nodded. "Alright. But Krishna, you have to agree to my request too." "What request is that?" "That you will always protect us five brothers. And if any one of us dies then you must accept death too." Krishna narrowed his eyes. The boy drove a hard bargain. "Agreed." So throughout their lives Sahadev knew everything. He knew about the fire plot of Varnavat even as Duryodhan was manipulating them into it. He knew about the political machinations of the Kauravas. He knew about the loaded dice in the gambling match, he knew what would happen to Draupadi in that gambling hall. He knew who would die and how in the war . He knew that Ashwathama would kill the Pandava children. Every time Sahadev looked at his son, he thought about how his son was going to die. He knew all these terrible things but he could never tell anyone.

Not his brothers, who he was closer to than his own shadow. Not even his wife, Draupadi, who knew all his heart's secrets. He couldn't tell anyone but Krishna. * It was for this reason that Sahadev was the most quiet of the brothers, keeping his thoughts to himself and allowing others to speak up. Imagine the strength that must have taken. To know what disasters will happen but not speak of them anyway . This is why Sahadev was called the most patient man in the world, that he had the fortitude to endure without losing his self-restraint.

Sometimes it's best not to speak, even when we know the truth. Sometimes disastrous things have to run their course for the earth to become clean and unburdened once more. Sahadev understood this. He and Krishna both understood this.

Dhaumya:

He was the family priest of the Pandavs and also accompanied them to exile after the dice game. He returned once they went on agyaatvaas. Yudi had many discourses with him and he was very loyal to the Pandavs

Here's how they found Dhaumya:

It was midnight. Pandavas reach river Ganga and prepare to take a bath. A gandharva was there with his wives and resents the intrusion. An argument ensues and Arjuna claims that the sea, the slopes of the mountains and waters of rivers are common to all! Predictably it escalates to an armed conflict and the gandharva shoots arrows at Arjuna. Arjuna uses theAgneya astra and sets fire to the chariot and pulls him out. Wives of gandharva fall at the feet of Yudhisthira and beg for mercy. Released, he wants to be friends with them.

The gandharva seeks information on the agneya astra and gifts Arjuna the power to see the happenings in all the three worlds and horses that knew no fatigue. Learns that they are Pandavas and speaks of the necessity of a kulaguru for future kings and suggests Dhaumya. Arjuna thanks the gandharva and asks him to take care of the horses for them till their circumstances have changed for the better and takes an affectionate farewell.

They seek Dhaumya, who impressed with their humility and behaviour agrees to be their guru. Feeling that dark clouds were lifting, Pandavas hurried towards Panchala where, according to Vyasa, great good fortune awaited them.

A few amid the major crowd of minor characters have made a worthy impact undoubtedly, their one particular action holds the merit. Be it Yuyutsu following the footsteps of Vibhishana, or Vikarna being the lone voice in the haunting silence. 😊

Here is a write up on Nakul:

NAKULA

Nakula was the son of Pandu and Madri and was the fourth pandava. He was the twin of Sahadev. His father Pandu died early due to a curse and he even lost his mother who performed sati, hence it was Kunti his father's first wife who took care of him like her own son, infact she loved the twins more than her own sons(Yudhisthir,Bhim,Arjun).
Nakula was extremely devoted to his mother and elder brothers who looked after him like their life.He along with his brothers and the Kauravas got tutelage from Drona.Nakula was the most handsome man on earth and was along with Sahadeva the finest swordsman on the earth. He was equally well versed with the bow, mace and other weapons. He had a great talent to ride a horse while it was raining and not get affected by the rain.He was a master of unusual astras and a maharathi i.e great warrior. He also along with Bhim,Arjun and Sahadev captured Drupad and gave him to Drona as a revenge Drona had with Drupad.Nakula along with all of his brothers married Draupadi ironically Drupad's daughter. He also had a son by her named Satanik who would become a great warrior.Draupadi described Nakula as the most handsome man, best swordsman and a great car warrior. She also told that he was the most devoted brother and was bravest of all people.
When Yudhisthira lost at dice he wagered all his brothers, himself and Draupadi.Nakula was the first brother he wagered yet Nakula still did not utter a single word and remained calm and cool.
Before the dice game when Yudhisthira performed the Rajasuya yagna Nakula captured the whole of the western India for him.He defeated the Sibi ruler,he captured Malva,Saurastra,Keykayas and many other barbarian rulers.
During the exile Nakula was the person who collected all fruits and bought firesticks so that Draupadi could cook.He was the person who would fetch water whenever the others felt thirsty. He was the only brother who did not provoke Yudhisthira into war before the exile got over since he knew his brother would not fight before the exile. In the eighth year of exile he also saved Draupadi's life when they were climbing on a montain.During their climb Draupadi missed a step and fell down Nakula who was behind her caught her and held her tightly and saved her from falling. In the thirteenth year of exile -the year of disguise he used his talent of training horses to a great extent. He served in the stables of king Virat whereas his other brothers and Draupadi also took over other jobs in that kingdom. When the trigartas attacked Matsya kingdom of Virat he along with Bhim,Yudhisthir and Sahadev protected the kingdom from the invaders infact Nakula was the person who killed the great warriors of the Trigarta army.Earlier in the the twelveth year of exile when Jayadrat abducted Draupadi he along with his brothers cut down an whole army to rescue Draupadi. He used his sword to a great extent in that encounter. In the eleventh year when Duryodhan was captured by the gandharvas Yudhisthira ordered his brothers to rescue him.The four Pandavas defeated the gandharavs easily and Nakula again showed his valour by killing hordes of gandharvas with his celestial weapons.

KURUKSHETRA WAR

In the war against the Kauravas after the exile Nakula was the leader of one of the seven akshahuni the Pandavs had.Even though his role in the war was not as big as Bhim or Arjun he played a significant role in the battle. He along with Bhim led the Pandavas in the first day of the battle. He defeated Dushasan on the first day.He even checked the attacks of warriors like Bhishma,Drona,Karna,Duryodhan,Kritvarman and Ashwatthama. His most significant parts where in the killing of Bhishma when he along with few others breach Bhishma's inner ring which helps Arjun and Shikandhi bring Bhishma down.He also defeats his uncle Shalya in battle. He killed three of Karna's sons,Shakuni's son Uluka and also kills 180 other great Kshatriyas when he,Yudhisthira and Sahadev attach Bhishma on the ninth day of the war.His greatest battle he fights with is against Karna. He really fights valourously that day and even his unknown brother Karna is impressed. He breaks Karna's bow 4 times and wounds him very badly and that battle prolongs for an hour but Karna being a greater bowman has Nakula at his mercy in the end yet spares his life because of a promise he made to Kunti.Nakula was the one who killed all of Shakuni's men and was one of the survivor of that war.

AFTER WAR

After the war Nakula is appointed to look after the military of his brother Yudhisthira. He even gets the grandest palace of all brothers since he was the most regal looking. He even takes care of Dhritrastra and Gandhari like how he takes care of Kunti. After ruling the land for thirty six years he his wife and brothers die and reach heaven and get united once more.
