Gandhari had only one name I think
Draupadi was called Panchala (ok, Paanchala), Krishnaa (because she was also black in colour), Yagyaseni (which is frequently used here). I think if you compare Sita and Draupadi, you can call Draupadi Yagyaseni, signifying her birth from the Yagyakunda (I think), the same way as Seeta signifies her birth from ploughing (Sira), or in the Tamil version, When the ground was split (sithai).

HANG ON.
Dhritarashtra married Gandhari, the daughter of king Suvala. Later, he married a vaishya woman called Sauvali (NOT Sukhada). So Sauvali means daughter of Suvala. SO that means even Suvala had married a Vaishya woman?

Pritha was Kunti's name before she was adopted out to Kuntibhoja. Pritha was the name of the daughter of Surasena, the father of Vasudeva, Shrutashrava (Sishupala's mom) and 4 other queens who were the mothers of Sishupala, Dantavatra, Vinda/Anuvinda and Bhadra)

She was renamed Kunti by Kuntibhoj, when he got her from Surasena.

As a result, only Arjun was known as Partha - it couldn't apply to any of her own sons except her youngest.

Why the youngest?

I think that oldest sons took after their father's names, while youngest sons took after their mother's names. Hence, in a family, if a wife wanted any of her sons to succeed her own parental inheritance, legally, she would have to start w/ her youngest & then work up, whereas for the husband, it would start w/ the oldest son & then go down.

I have a new question. For their Agyatvas, why didn't the Pandavas choose a place like Dwarka, where they would have been inaccessible to Duryodhan's spies? Or in places like Madra, Kuntibhoj or Panchala? Did they fear that they'd be recognized there by their relatives, no matter what disguise they took?
