Brilliantly put! You summed up all my anger and helplessness I felt yesterday when I watched the amazingly executed but very disturbing episode.
Women have historically been chattels in any "war" or even conflict fought amongst men, this is throughout the ages and is not county or race specific. I was discussing this with my husband yesterday (who is not Indian so an interesting discussion as he did not grow up with MB like I did 😃). We both agreed that even when men suffer and are stripped of honour, titles, wealth etc, they fight on their own playing field generally (there are exceptions before anyone jumps down my throat but I am generalising), but women have to then additionally deal with the stripping (pun intended here) of that commodity which we have decreed across centuries to be intertwined with their souls-n their honour.

For a man to stand by his high ideals of duty, honour, dharma, call it what you will, is in some respect academic especially when they cannot (as you correctly identified in your post) step away from their misconceived notions to defend what they should be valuing above all else- the respect and honour of a wife, mother, daughter, the veritable Goddess that creates and nurtures each of us. Exactly as you said, only Shri Krishna was above it all, hence the important message that God is who you really call upon and rely on at crucial times, your respect and strength will not be defended by others if you rely on them, without surrender to the Almighty as only He will come to your aid regardless of any so called traditions and principles.

Something very private but am moved to share it here as it is overflowing within me today! I have personally experienced the hurt, anger and disappointment that comes from relying on others to "defend" your honour. I had a bad first marriage where there were a thousand humiliations and trials suffered, no way comparable to Draupadi, but still to each their gradual erosion of self respect can be just as hurtful. No one, from various in laws to husband himself came "to the rescue" as such. My constant guide and support were my Kanha and my Mataji, I drew endless source of strength from them and one day my own parents realised the extent of issues and made me see how wrong I was to keep a relationship that was empty, a shell and wrong, simply due to my misconceived sense of duty.

As you can imagine, watching the current track is very disturbing but also inspiring as it demonstrates yet again how no one can take your self respect from you unless you let them. Therefore, whilst the Pandavas were the losers in that game of dice, Draupadi did not allow her molestation and the disrobing was of the perpetrators, not hers in the end.

Sorry for having written an essay, I hardly ever post anything but couldn't hold back 😃

Loved your post! Every time I see the vastra haran of Draupadi or think about it , I always think that Krishna was the only smart mature good who saved Draupadi. He never lived by the false rules made by the society. He did what he knew was right and not because it was some dharma. He was the one to protect Draupadi, the only one man in Mahabharat to always have done the right thing even if that meant using some smart tricks to get the correct job done. Lord Krishna- the sensible, adorable and righteous one!

Very well written post.
There was a reason that Sri Krishna himself had to come to the rescue of Draupadi, even though he wasnt present in dice hall. The reason was that the men in the royalty were so blinded by their false sense honour and dharma that they would not see anything wrong in the suffering of Draupadi. Dhritrashtra was blinded by his own venom, duryodhan was just an extension to dhritrashtra's jealosy n spite, bhishma n drona were blinded by their duty towards the crown, pandavas by their fake dharma. It was totally obligatory for Sri Krishna to appear and hence show the shallowness of the so called dharma for men.

Oh Lord ...

I would say that I am so sorry but I do not feel sorry for you, I feel extremely proud of you Lady. You are an inspiration and it is an honor that you have the guts to share such an intimate, depressing and private part of your life. I am too young and inexperienced to understand even an ounce of what you went through and throughout the Episode I had been thinking that if this affects me so much then what about those women who have went through such horrible experiences.

Either it be physical or verbal, it does not make a difference, degrading any women by any means, regardless of whether she is down and helpless or not, is heinous.

Men with such monstrous and atrocious attitude towards any woman, either she be his partner or a complete stranger, should be thrown before the law or be ganged upon by many women and receive a good ol' beating with Pencil heels and heavy purses. Such dishonorable and nasty men earn it.

Only if every woman could be brave like you. You rose above it all, stood up and moved on and this is truly salute- worthy. So take a salute and bow from me.👏

Awww thanks so much, thats so sweet of you. I don't really deserve any special accolades as most women have strength in them, they just have to find it and even when they think they don't, God is always with them to supply them the courage they need to face whatever comes. It all happened to me when I was very young, a few years ago and I look back at it all as a learning experience that made me realise that you can survive anything with faith and courage. But once again, thanks for your lovely words, really appreciate it and thanks for making such a thought provoking post 👏👏

That is why Krishna descended.
The letter of dharma had become more important that the spirit of it.
people were busy discussing inane details, and not one thought was spared for the woman who stood there, humiliated, distruaght, and treated as a chattel.
And that is why the Goddess roared in anger and watched their devastation with relish.

many say draupadi washing her hair with blood of kauravas, and bhim bringing them to her is like bhairava protecting the Goddess and punishing those who cast lustful eyes on her.

Too lazy to post citations now.😃

Excellent post.👏

Forget the known villains. Personally, there has always been one question unanswered. Which Dharma prevails? To protect a defenceless woman who is getting pounced upon so heinously in open public? Or stick to the word of a lost gamble? Forget those imbecile Kauravs. Why did 'Dharma raja' still restrict his able brothers? Slave by mind? Arre, even a common slave might have jumped into the fray if he had guts.😡
This whole sense of 'limit' and mental impotence, at the time of a human crisis, is so warped, it is doubly insulting to excuse it as Dharma.😡 This is one occasion, I can not see my childhood Heroes in any mitigating or exonerative light. Here, they failed their manliness, they failed their morality, they failed a woman- their wife, they failed a human.🤢🤢
