I just found this thread and am posting again what I posted before in another thread. Has anybody over here read Bibek Debroy's translation of the Mahabharat? It is the English translation of the critical edition/Poona edition compiled by the Bhandarkar Institute in Pune. It differs from he KMG translation in some respects.
I have heard that the critical edition does not have the episode of Draupadi rejecting Karna by calling him a 'sutaputra'. Instead, he fails in performing the task.

If this is true, then it adds further to Karna's misdeeds, as he had no excuse to participate in Draupadi's vastraharan.

Ashwatthama released the Brahmashira not only @womb of Uttara but also to the wombs of the entire Pandava womenfolk. The Pandava lineage survived because Uttara was pregnant and the child could be saved. Draupadi and other Pandava wives could never be mothers again even if they wished to. A huge price to pay for demanding their just rights. I am not sure if Pandavas would have been entirely happy for the 36 years that they ruled.

For this reason any punishment given to Ashwatthama is pretty less.

At least for me there is some doubt whether Karna actually called Draupadi "a wh***". The Sanskrit shloka has the word "Bandhaka"

The worst meaning of "Bandhaka" that I could find was "courtesan". Ofcourse its upto individuals to interpret the way they like, I am not here to change anybody's opinion.

Right now am literally struck with this book Ajaya: Roll of the Dice (Epic of the Kaurava clan, #1) by Anand Neelakantan I am finding it rather difficult to read it.The perspective of this author is way too different. The way he is portraying Dhuryodhana or in his words Suyodhana as some kind of saint and Bhima as some cruel being who doesn't respect anybody even elders like Vidhura or Dhritarashtra, its really hard from me digest. I am not saying Bhima doesn't have any bad quality or doubt Dhuryodhana having some good quality in him but here the portrayal is way too negative and very much differently done.

^^^ The author did visit this website a couple of times, but didn't stay around to discuss. Of course, for me, anything that defames my dear Bhimasena is a non starter

Yeah, given this factoid, it's obscene that any work - Vishnu Purana or anything else - would have him play any future role. Much less being the next Vyasa or the next Manu (that's something else I once read online)

After reading the reviews on Ajaya, i seriously had thought that the foreign prince who wanted to destroy India was actually Krishna, since i assumed that if Duryodhana can be portrayed as the Kind saintly Suyodhan then why not Shakuni take up Krishnas role and vice versa.

I dunno whether this was in Minakshi's mind, but after reading this thread & your contributions, I respect this serial more. And I'm not being facetious.

I mean, just like people take bits & pieces from different Ramayans & put them together - Tulsidas, Kamban, Krittivas, Shiva Puran parts of Ramayan, et al and put them together, Swastik productions seems to be doing the same thing here. Arjun @ Rukmini's wedding, Arjun getting Karna a bride are clearly from the Indonesian versions, while Vrushali's name has been pulled from Mrityunjaya. Now, instead of having Arjun give Suprabha to Karna, he's giving Vrushali to him. I'm sure now that there is a real source of the Veena episode where Arjun had to wash Karna's feet.

In this serial, I now hope that Shikhandini too marries Arjun - maybe b4 the war, and accompanies him on his chariot on the day of battle. Only problem - one Pandava akshauni will miss a senapati. Oh, damn, just let Karna defect, since Bheeshma has excluded him from the war. Let him fight the first 10 days on the Pandava side, and the next 7 on the Kaurava. How much worse will it be than what it is now? 😆

I would have prefered if they had left all the mahabharat related work of 20th and 21st century out of their research.😆Consulting south version and even Indonesian one, i understand. Indo MB was compiled in the 4th century and then developed in the 11th, reached there in 1st century C.E Some of the narratives could be more close to what might be the original Vyas MB than the more recent Indian compilations.
And cambodian MB is not even that different than ours, very little variation. What i find interesting is that Keralian and Indo MB agree on many things which are not even mentioned in Ved Vyas one.

Like Bhima marrying a serpent girl, some goddess who was the daughter of Anant Naag.Even Rajesthan folklore talks about Bheemas serpent wife.

Indo MB mentioned Bhimas grandson, Dhanurvindya being the PM of Parikshit.

🤣🤣
You wont believe, but Indo MB does have a "Priyamvada".🤣🤣

Only, it is a Man and Arjuna's Suta Son with his brahman wife.
