I would say the Pandavas + Draupadi suffered the most.
Right from their childhood somebody or the other was always plotting against them. Apart from the time that they ruled Indraprastha (which was largely peaceful) their life was a constant strife, some of them like losing the kingdom in dice was kind of self inflicted by Yudhisthir, but other sufferings were clearly the handiwork of their enemies.

Even after the war their life was pretty hollow. They had lost all their kids in the war and because of the effect of Ashwathama's weapon their wives could never conceive again. Apart from that ruling a region full of widows and having one of the main causes Dhri in the palace would have caused considerable heartburn, even though they were pretty respectful to him.

Bhishma and Karna too suffered but the majority of it was self inflicted.

I agree. I think pandavas suffered the most. They were knowingly never given any due. In childhood, they were at receiving end of dury insults and schemes. Attempt on their life at lakshgrah. They were unjustly given Khandavprasth, a barren land inhabited by snakes. They were later taken away their kingdom. Yudhi although at fault, it was stil an evil scheme. And then the worst... Disrobe attempt on Draupadi, calling her wh**e, subsequent exile and not being returned their kingdom.
Pandavas were never keen to wage a war and they actually lost heavily after the win.the win was completely meaningless. It hurts more when you are aware that you are being treated unjustly.

1.) Bhishma:- This is bcoz he was deprived of everything in his life- inheritance, the right to love a woman, the right to start his own family. And what's worse is, after Chitrangad and Vichitravirya, he was THE ONLY TRUE heir to the throne...Despite that, he let outsiders take over.
That was probably wat he was destined to.
2.) Karna:- Many people say that Karna's sufferings were bcoz of his own actions. It is true. But wat most people forget is dat Karna's misdeeds were the results of his frustrations that he felt inside. Be it his obsession with Arjun or insulting Draupadi, all his misdeeds had only one root cause- the rejection that he was subjected to time and again, bcoz of his supposed lower caste and Kunti's silence despite everything. Karna was as skilled as Arjun in archery(maybe a little more or a little less). But his talent was not recognized only bcoz of his caste. What people call arrogance, I think it was more of an urge to get his talent acknowledged. After all every human wants his virtues or talents to be recognized. Who knows, if his talent had got acknowledged, he probably would not have shown so much aggression towards Arjun. Draupadi's insult was extremely wrong and cannot be justified, but there again he vents out his anger on being considered a lower caste by Draupadi. It cannot be denied that despite being made a king, no one really treated him as one.
I think what his real mistake in life was that he didn't correct Duryodhan or stop him frm making mistakes. Apart from that he was a very unfortunate man.
3.) Draupadi:- That was one wronged woman. From outside she was arrogant, strong, had five husbands n also was a queen. But she remained a long time in exile, was not really the favourite wife of the man she loved the most, was staked by her husband in a dice game, disrobed in front of elders and outsiders, where her husbands did nothing, lost all her sons and brothers in a brutal manner, was molested by Keechak, almost kidnapped by Jayadrata, etc, etc. Although she had 5 husbands, she could not be with whoever she wanted to, at anytime, bcoz of the one year rule. She had to be dutiful to all her husbands emotionally and physically (which is not humanly possible) and was deserted by her 5 husbands when she needed them the most. After all these sufferings and pain, how did her life end? By falling down, followed by an accusation by her husband, who once staked her at a dice game, that she wasn't much loyal to him n the others excepting Arjun.
The only good thing in her life was Lord Krishna's friendship, who stood by her forever.
Yes, she was strong-willed, knew how to deal with her husbands, and was arrogant about many things, but she lost a lot more than what she got.
The Pandavas too had suffered a lot, but they had as many friends(Lord Krishna, Vidur, Bheeshma), as they had enemies. Lord Krishna's friendship alone was all they needed. Lord Krishna helped and guided them whenever and wherever they needed. So when God Himself, was on their side, who else did they need?

I reckon the actress who played Madri would've have made a good Uttara.
