yes, there could be different meaning of the word - haran according to the context in which it was used. But generally speaking - haran does mean - kidnap only, as in Sita's haran by Raavan- that was a kidnap- a criminal act of forcefully taking away someone against his/her will.
But as medhaa said- a girl's family will never accept that their daughter ran away with a man by her own will. its a matter of family pride nd honour, so they term it as kidnap, so rukmini's family declared her running away with Krishna as a Kidnap or Haran! technically, it shouldn't be called that, but over the years this episode came to be popularly known as Rukimini's haran.Originally posted by: Patrarekha
