Agree with you, and why would Draupadi joke about her to-be-husband's real identity is beyond me. I mean if I were her, I would definitely have been anxious until I made sure that the person I'm about to marry is indeed the person I'm thinking him to be.

Example: a historian would not state that the Pandavas were born to Yamaraj, Vayu, Indra, Ashwins. They'd either put the father down as Pandu, or speculate some about who it really was. Similarly, events, like Yudisthir's afterlife, or Arjun's activities in devalok, would not be a part of history.But things like the Pandava Rajasuya yagna & conquests, the Pandava exile, Karna's conquests for Duryodhan, the Kurukshetra war, the Ashwamedha yagna, et al, would be historical, and described in a factual manner in any historical narrative.Similarly, in Krishna's war on Banasura, no historian would write that Krishna battled and overwhelmed Shiva. They'd simply state that Krishna had a war w/ Banasura, and liberated Anirudha & Usha from him.Hopefully, you get the idea.

As it is, in the US, when some states are allowing 'Intelligent Design' to be taught in substitute of evolution, it's creating a controversy.
If in any school history book, they write that Karna was born to Kunti of Surya as a result of Durvasa's boon, they'd get instantly dinged. They're much safer simply writing that Pandu's 5 sons were the Pandavas, who waged a war against the Kauravas and won.
