As per our shashtras, Mother is given the highest status- "Matro Devo bhava" . So it is but natural for Arjuna (anyone else, for that matter) to be concerned about his mother.
Though the tear- arrow- tilak - incident was purely an imaginative account by the CVs.
As per our shashtras too, husband too, is supposed to be treated like God by his wife. That's why husband is referred to as "Pati-dev". Unfortunately we do not have a corresponding "Patni-devi"
Regarding suffering, it was Uloopi who suffered the most. Arjuna married her only as an obligation and left her behind in her kingdom.
She single handedly brought up both her son, Iravan and Babruvahan and unhesitatingly sent Iravan to fight alongside his father during the MB war. Seeing a son as fine as Iravan, Arjuna began developing a soft corner for Uloopi
Iravan's tragic death on day 8 of the War was a blow to Arjuna and he mentally wonders what he will reply now to Uloopi. Iravan's death affects Arjuna as much as Abhimanyu's death does.
Later on during the Ashwamedha campaign, when Arjuna is killed by Babruvahana, Uloopi procures the Naga Mani and restores Arjuna to life. A repentant Arjuna reconciles with Uloopi and takes her back with him to Hastinapura.
