My thoughts about today's episode -
1. Again Dhritarashtra's blindness not mentioned (if it did get mentioned, apologies for not picking up on that part). Though Amba did refer to it...not in exact terms though...

2. Loved how Satyavati got virtually smacked across her face by Bhishma with regards to Vidur's namkaran. Such disgusting arrogance. Wonder how she would've reacted if she knew beforehand that Vidur is actually an incarnation of Dharma...
Satyavati & CVs - Is this the way the future chief minister of Hastinapura and one of the most wise individuals ever is supposed to be treated??

3. Loved, loved, loved Krishna's gyaan about the fact that living life is all about experiencing the present moment, rather than living in the past or strategizing for the future. Who knows what will tomorrow bring? The future can be "planned" only when you are truly aware of the circumstances you find yourselves in at a particular stage. But I have two questions related to today's gyaan from Krishna -

3a. If we are supposed to live in the present moment and experience each instance, then why do job interviewers ask us,"Where do you see yourself five (or whatever) years from now?" I mean, I don't even know what will happen tomorrow. How can I be expected to plan my life so many years in advance??? Is life supposed to be lived ONLY on the basis of making countless impractical plans for the future?
3b. If we are EXPECTED to live in the present moment, then why are our sufferings in the present life attributed to our PAST life karmas? Why can't the karmas of one life be accounted for in the same life itself? Why should they be accounted for in the next life? In the cycle of birth & death, why can't each life start with a completely clean slate altogether?

4. Satyavati is so seriously deluded. Her husband and sons are no longer alive. Her daughters-in-law are widowed. She had to ask her illegitimate son to "extend" the family. One of her grandsons is blind, the other is sick. The third grandson is arrogantly dismissed as a "daasiputra" by her. And yet, she tells Amba that happiness still awaits her in Hastinapura even now, if she gave up the mindset of revenge against Bhishma!! Really, Satyavati, who is Amba SUPPOSED to marry now in Hastinapura??? There's no one left!! Do you intend marrying another king from another kingdom? Or do you have any more illegitimate sons?

5. Expected them to go OTT with the Bhishma-Parashuram fight. But can Parashuram seriously fly? And when did he become a water bender? And were human beings in the Dwapar Yuga "designed" in a much more advanced manner than Kali Yuga humans that Parashurama & Bhishma could actually breathe underwater and continue their fight - while actually STANDING erect underwater the whole time???

Tomorrow's precap - Mahadev 😃
And who is that woman?? 😕

@shani 88 i think satyavati was not so bad also..someone crct me if i am wrong.. I dnt think she ill treated vidhur like that..the show had made her altogether a negative character but in reality she was nt like that..
About staying in water n all plz dnt forget lord parashuram was an avatar of lord Vishnu himself and in those days they used to do penance under water too.. I dnt kw if the fight in real also took place in water bt m jst trying to give an explanation. .
And about the development of dwapara yuga it had been proved that space shuttles too existed n they had much more sophisticated weapons than d present time..

Okay, just watched the episode, and thoroughly enjoyed it 😆

The first scenes @ the namkaran - I found it funny how Dhritarashtra & Pandu were both happily quiet, when presented to Satyavati, but when Vidura was handed over to her, he started crying. Incidentally, the dasi - the woman in blue behind Bheeshma - looked too well dressed to be a dasi - in fact, w/ Bheeshma holding Vidura, it almost looked like that dasi was his wife 😆 And it was funny to see Bheeshma goad Satyavati to take Vidura in her arms, and Satyavati cringing as she held him - probably prompting Vidura's reaction. Satyavati, you're not exactly of royal blood yourself, to be annoyed over a dasi's son being your grandson 😈 (Yeah, yeah, I know that the real Satyavati was nowhere near as mean, but we're now talking about the serial here. Also, timelines were screwed - Bheeshma Parashurama battle happened long b4 Dhritarashtra & Pandu were born)

I just love how this serial has made Satyavati-Amba the ideal saas-bahu relationship (ignoring the technicality that Amba was not her bahu). When they showed Amba entering the scene, barefoot, it looked like she was at a beach, except that she was wearing a sari. Incidentally, what Satyavati told Amba made no sense whatsoever. At this stage, how does Amba become a part of this family? Vichitravirya is dead, and Bheeshma won't marry (or else, this issue would indeed have been solved), so how does Amba become a part of the Kuru parivar? Will Satyavati undergo a niyoga birth herself to get Amba a hubby? 😈

The battle scenes - fantastic for a martial arts movie, and our first look into what a battle in this serial would look like. But it would have made sense to show either an archery confrontation b/w the 2 - like Arjun/Karna, or show Bheeshma w/ sword vs Parashurama w/ ax. I found the scene of Bheeshma falling off a cliff & Parashurama diving after him too overdramatic. And them having a battle underwater - shouldn't Bheeshma be @ home here, given that he was born to Ganga? Finally, Parashurama tossing a tree @ him made him look like Hanuman 😆 while Bheeshma breaking it w/ his fists made it look like they've stolen the scene from the Karate Kid 2 - the original Ralph Macchio movie.

Precap - Ganga being a crybaby & going to Mahadev - 😳 They could have brought in Mahadev later by showing him answer Amba's tapasya. I do hope they show it, or if they're gonna show Mahadev blessing Amba, at least they can have him tell her that she'll get her revenge in a future birth.

Precap of Gandhari crying - not familiar w/ this story, so can't comment.

In yersterday's epi, I loved it when Mahadev telling Amba that he cannot give his blessings for an act like vengeance. If Bhishma indeed had to suffer the consequences of his actions, he definitely would've - irrespective of HER own thirst for vengeance.

And Krishna's gyaan about parents giving the "correct" values to their children - so very true.

Question - Was there really so much dushmani between Hastinapur and Panchal right from the beginning, as it is being depicted in this version? I'm NOT saying this is their own concocted version, 'cos I'm no expert myself. So, I just want to clarify this point. I mean, for the dushmani between the two kingdoms, I would've actually thought it was due to the Drupad-Dronacharya conflict. I didn't know this dushmani between the two kingdoms actually existed much before that.

I agree w/ Bhas - Mahadev did indeed bless Amba that she'd get her revenge, and the only caveat he put was that it wouldn't happen in this life. Actually, Amba did ghor tapasya for that - she didn't just get Mahadev's darshan for free, just for watching the Bhishuram fight. After Mahadev blessed her, she decided not to waste time in this life if it wasn't gonna happen, and committed self immolation. A few more things happened - Amba became a river, and Ganga cursed her that due to her thirst for vengence, her banks would be inaccessible for bathing purposes.

On Shani's question, no, there was no enmity b/w Hastinapur & Panchal. In fact, Drupada's father Prishatha was ousted from the throne, & Bheeshma invaded Panchala and helped re-instate him. So even Drupada bore no ill will against Bheeshma, and when Amba approached him w/ a garland from Mahadev/Kartikeya asking him to wear it & be Bheeshma's enemy, Drupada refused, and Amba hung that garland at his palace gate. When she was reborn as Shikhandini, she wore that garland, but even then, there was no enmity b/w Panchal & Hastinapur, even though Bheeshma knew what was going on. Also, Shikhandini had full memory of her life as Amba - what they showed here about Prishatha deciding to poison her mind against Bheeshma was not only inaccurate, it was also redundant.

Drupada's only enmity was w/ Drona, but after he was captured by Arjun, the yagna he did just had the objective of getting a son to kill Drona. He didn't ask for a daughter to terminate the Kurus - he just got it as a buy one, get one free deal 😆

In fact, it wasn't until after Draupadi's vastraharan that Hastinapur & Panchala became enemies. When Karna went on his conquests for Duryodhan's yagna, Drupada fought & lost to him, and paid tribute, but nonetheless refused to recognize Hastinapur's alliance, and remained on the Pandava side.

Update: Just saw the episode, and like Bhas said, Mahadev did give Amba what she wished for. Here, they didn't show him telling her that it won't happen in this life.

But I liked Amba's curse on Bheeshma - that he'd never get a moment of peace due to worrying about Hastinapur's throne - the same throne for which he destroyed the 3 sisters, and would be on a constant treadmill over the throne, and eaten alive by that worry, and that she'd finally be there to cause his downfall. They skipped her self immolation.

I liked them leaping to Panchala and showing Shikhandini's birth. Baby Shikhandini was so cute, particularly compared to baby Dhritarashtra 😆 That baby had such a cute smile when her dadaji named her Shikhandini 😆 Of course, Drupada had nothing against Bheeshma, and neither really did Prishatha, but I liked them welcoming this new daughter of theirs. I wonder whether the serial will show how Shikhandini became Shikhandi and ultimately a prince of Panchala, who was one of the Pandava commanders in the war. I'd prefer they show it now, while Amba is still the talking point. Another point - unlike Drupada, who refused to perpetuate his friendship w/ Drona, Prishatha valued his own friendship w/ Drona's father Bharadwaj.

Location of Gandhara - they showed Saurashtra, then Sindhu on its north west, then Madra & then Gandhar? Actually, Kekaya was the actual kingdom where they showed Madra. Madra was located in what's today's Punjab - the 5 rivers territory, and north West of that was Gandhara.

From the precap, it looked like it was Bheeshma who led an army against Gandhara, like he had not learnt his lesson w/ Amba. But unlike in the case of Kashi, that's not what Bheeshma did at all. He peacefully approached Raja Subala (why isn't he wearing a crown? He was a real king, not a tribal chief!) for Gandhari's hand on hearing that she was destined to have 100 sons. It's ironic that it was Bheeshma who inadvertantly dug the grave for his family - had he resisted the temptation to get Gandhari, the Pandavas would have been the sole inheritors of Hastinapur, and Gandhari may have married some other ruler and had 100 sons who'd have been no threat to the Pandavas, aside from maybe inter-kingdom disputes.

Don't know the story about Gandhari being afraid of the dark.

The biggest irony with Bhishma's oath is that he lives with all the sorrows, responsibility of a married householder but without its benefits.

Look at it - he manages the throne de facto, is responsible for the widow of his father and brothers, brings up his brothers and brothers' kids, finds a wife for whoever is the eligible bachelor in house, he is the one sought for advice on imp matters of kingdom as well as in fights between kauravas and padavas for peacemaking and this tirade continues for three generations!!
