'Yet on other hand they attained immortality and iconic status.
well said atominis
If this serial came out now, they would have been promoted/publicized more, nowadays any tom dick and harry can make it thanks to the overt promotion with the internet and tv

I've seen MK's movie clips. Even I was stunned seeing him play flirty yet lovable characters..😆😳
He looked so young, gorgeous and cute in those video clips.
Mahabharata gave him much maturity and he became a reputed, a respectable 'elder' even for the men who were way too elder than him. That was the effect of his flawless portrayal. Moreover, he's pretty famous for his 'Aayushmaan bhava'. Our former president APJ Abdul Kalam also received his blessings. 😃
Ever since Shaktimaan came, he's living two characters.

All the scenes of Bheeshma on his bed of arrows were incredible, especially the one in which Shantanu comes to meet him. That's my personal favourite. The pain in MK's voice as Bheeshma is very much capable of melting the hardest rocks...!

In BRC, critical events like Bhishma being taken down, Abhi vadh, Drau VH, etc. left such a deep impact in your mind. There was this sense of foreboding associated with them...

For a long time, I was actually scared of watching Drau VH of BRC. And finally, I mustered the courage to watch it. Suffice to say that it was the first AND only time that I have watched it.

Even the music was pretty awesome too -
1. "Ant vant cheh deep hain, saptam deep anant..."
2. "Adhipati teeno lok ke, khaaye Vidur ghar saag..."
3. "Dharma karma nishchit karo..."
4. "Kripa Krishna Ki..."
5. "Vishwaroop dikhla rahe, vishwambhar bhagavan..."
6. "Aanchal cheere Draupadi, baandh rahi bhagavan..."
7. "Sab din hote na ek samaan..."

Favourite dialogues -
1. "Maakhan bahut khaa liya, murli bahut bajaa li, leelaayein bahut kar li, Vaasudev. Ab vo kaarya karo jiske liye prithvi par aaye ho..." (Parashurama to Krishna)
2. "Arjun vo Nar hai jo Narayan ke darshan karvaayega" (Krishna to Drona)
3. "Duryodhan dau ko ghumane le gaye hain. Lagta hai ghuma diya..." 😆 (Krishna to Bhishma & Vidur)
4. "Apne keshon ka dhyaan rakhna, putri..." (Vyasa to Drau)

Only ones that I can recall at the top of my head at the present moment. May just need to compile a long list...😆

Some of the most powerful scenes emerged from those iconic moments mentioned above, there was a visceral quality that drew one right into the action, it was profoundly moving and disturbing at once. Draupadi's act was not contrived and her trauma while thirst for revenge was very intensely felt. These actors knew how to wield their skill with utmost sincerity and perfection, that level of depth remains unsurpassed.

Absolutely correct.
In one of the BTS videos, it was revealed that when Draupadi was dragged into the dyut sabha and was questioning the sabha, Roopa Ganguly got into character so much that she actually started to cry (her tears are completely real in that scene).
And the shoot had to be stopped for 30 minutes in order to calm her down.

And the intensity in her performance simply showed throughout that scene, and even in her thirst for vengeance...

True. Sadly those treasured BTS videos have been removed. :(

After VH, there's a scene between Bheeshm and Drona. That's so great..! Arjuna arrives later to seek Bheeshm's blessings and talks about punishing the culprits. Then these epic lines follow...'Ghayal toh main hua hoon, apmaan toh mera hua hai. Apmaan toh hua hai mere Hastinapur ka, arre apmaan toh hua hai mere poorvajon ka. Aur apmaanon ki inn bheed mein tumhein kewal apna apmaan dikhaai diya?'

This particular dialogue is one among my favourites.

Another dialogue I can recall very well..!
Shalva: Bheeshm! Apni zuban ko lagaam do.

Bheeshma: Main kewal ghodon ko lagaam deta hoon! 😆

I like two sequences particularly in refrence to Bheeshma Arjuna bonding one while Arjuna is practising and peirces arrows at a tree and after VH ...Mukesh Khanna sir was awesome ...So was Firoz Khan ...The entire Bheeshma wadha sequence where Arjuna peirces Arrows and Bheeshma blesses him was simply perfect...When Bheeshma says Aacharya Dron aaj aapko apni vidhya par garv hona chahiye aapke shisy ke vaano ne mere shahrir ko bheda hain ( Not exact words though)
