I cannot anymore watch the new one in seriousness, BRC Mahabharat is the best. All its actors set the level which has not been surpassed by any of the new ones as they are almost dumbed down and muted to fit within the star plus mould that caters to cheap thrills and spectacles. Exceptions like Shakuni in the new one who has come into his own..
Pankaj dheers portrait of Karna was so genuinely poignant, solemnly enduring, understated, visceral at times when passionate, and silently expressive. his eyes had a deep intensity, his dialogues were suffused with warmth and fierce passion, and yet he had a quiet subdued charm that created intrigue, he didn't have to do much to draw you into him, one naturally became transfixed by his obscurity, enigma, complexity and depth, the duality of his nature was brought forth as he performed with an aggressiveness and endearing restraint
Rupa Ganguly was another phenomenon. so compelling that you really went through the emotions with her in every word she spoke, in every gesture of expression. These actors were genuinely devoted to their roles. I can't see anyone topping that level, giving it that depth the way they had, and in so seamless a manner. There is a delicate balance in overacting and.forcing.emotion. and all these actors managed to overcome this acting from the heart, rather than on the surface, (which is the tendency nowadays with some of the new serials actors who seem to be overtly conscious in pulling off an image), BRCS actors were able to feel their role from within, giving it a passion, this can never be surpassed no amount of dramatisation will reach such depth, heights of passion that brcs actors did. This new one is consumed in sensationalism, trivialisation, n modernisation to some degree that its very difficult to connect to.
