Samay's incredible narration when Bheeshm was on the Bed of arrows...pure piece of inspiration.

Ye raat badi bhayanak hai. Aur kurukshetra mein teeron ki shaiyya par laite Bheeshm ke siva, koi chain se nahi hai. Aisa bistar toh aaj tak kisi yoddha ko mila hee nahi tha, aur kadachit milega bhi nahi. Kyun ki aise mahaan purush baar baar janam nahi lete. Hay Bharatvarsh, tu dhanya hai, ke tere sapooton mein Bheeshm jaise mahaan purush ka bhi naam aata hai. Inki mahaanta ke saamne toh swayam mahaan shabd bhi chhota dikhaai deta hai. Main bhi inke sparsh se dhanya ho gaya. Ye teer nahi hain, padak hain, sammaan padak hain. Aur inki aati-jati har saans, vidhata ki taraf se diya gaya sammaan padak hai. Yadi koi vyakti aisi ek saans bhi le le, toh amar ho jaye.

when the show aired for the first time I was only 3 and I watched it, with my grandpa and grand maa 😃

I saw it again when I was 11 😊

The story of Mahabharat never fades...

and the B.R films Mahabharat portrayed the story best...

Old Mahabharat ... yes I have very fond memories of it.
I remeber very few housholds had TVs in my neighbourhood. Sunday Morning was a get together time for both Ramayan and Mahabharat. We did not have a TV when it started. but somewhere in between, My father had gotten a TV. So I remember seeing it half at a neighbour's home and half at my own. Always with some friends and neighbours and the entire family. Old people actually used to pay respects by folding hands and bowing heads to rama and Krishna. Sounds really Naive, but man simple and sweet experience it was!
About the serial itself, I watched it completely for 2-3 times. I believe the casting was excellent! Bhishma, Dhritarashtra, Gandhari, Vidur, Kunti, Drona, Karna, Yudhishthir, Bheem, Arjun, Nakul, Sahadev, Draupadi, Duryodhan, Shakuni, Krishna... you name it and the faces that still appear in front of my eyes are from the old serial.
Not to say the new ones are not good. not ata all. I love Satyavati, Bheeshma, Amba, Kunti, adolescent Karna, Drona. very nicely depicted.
Personally I feel, there is too much glamour added in the new serial, with the help of technology. But content wise, it is a fine interpretation.

Old Mahabharat had a quiet dignity about it. There were so many nuanced moments - between Arjun and Bhisma, between Vidur and Dhritarashtra (see the last but one episode - Vidur meets a mourning Dhritrashtra - the exchanges are superb)... The dialogues were so well-penned and the use of samay was a very intelligent move - who else but "time" to be the objective story-teller? Miss the non-flashy story-telling...

I have said it before and i will say it again both the MB new and old ones were good for their times
Nowadays people like flashy things, colourful things, dramatized situations etc.Hence this MB is working well in today's age and would have flooped had It been released during old MB's time
Just see the diffenrece between our new movies and old movies the smae diffenrence is between old MB and new MB.Storytelling becomes different with every age

Mukt karen daasatva se, Bheeshm pitamah daas,
Ab na kahin daasatva ka, ho Bharat mein vaas, ho Bharat mein vaas.

Can someone tell me the above lyrics were played in which episode? And what was the scene?
