^^^ This happened in Santanu's case - his eldest brother became an ascetic, his older brother Bahlika was committed to his mother's maayka's dynasty, so he got to be king of Hastinapur.

Krishna -Balarama relationship is beyond brother-brother relationship .

Shri Balarama is the avtaar of shri vishnu's sheshnaag..and vishnu's sheshnaag considers himself as the daas of shri vishnu...and never wants to be separated from his swami..so whenever shri vishnu takes an avtaar on earth..sheshnaag also takes an avtaar with him as someone close to him...In the Ram Avtaar, Sheshnaag took avtaar of the younger brother lakshman..who always protected and at the beck and call of his elder brother ram, he even left his wife urmila to be with shri ram in his vanvaas.. It is said that shri lakshman never slept during the whole tenure of the vanvaas as he kept a vigil over his brother and bhabhi sita to protect them frm evils of teh jungle..

After the ram avtaar was finished at kshirsagar shri sheshnaag joked abt it to shri vishnu that "I had to be the younger brother and had to do a lot of work and always listen to you"😊 Wish I could be the elder brother one day.. and shri vishnu said "Tathastu" and so in Krishna avtaar shri sheshnaag took the avtara of Shri Balaram the elder brother of vishnu.

Shri Krishna being the naughty brother always found a way around balarma and gave justifications to his acts which balarama disapproved..and once also said you wanted to be the elder brother..so I will get your love first not your anger (something on that lines).

Please forgive me I am not aware of the other Avtaars of Shri Sheshnaag before Shri Vishnu's Ram Avtaar..

The above explanation is given as per the Mahabharatha stories told to me by my Late Grandmother ..who was an avid reader of The Bhagwad Geeta , Vyas Mahabharata and Dynaneshwari..

Lovesunshine: What your granny said was definitely true and I have read that in some book.. I had also read though Krishna used to baffle Balarama with his calculated actions, Krishna also had served Balarama at times like fanning him and doing other odd jobs for him like Lakshmana used to do for Rama.
For me the one single puzzle is why Balarama liked Duryodhana even though he knew all the atrocities he committed to Pandavas and when he also knows that Pandavas were troubled a lot because of Dury's actions.

Mnx: Based on reading MBH by Rajaji, I could see Yudhi was 16 when Pandavas came to Hastinapura.

Maha : The answer to your questions is Balarama had character traits just like lord shiva..the bola nath ...he just pleased anyone whom worshipped him or aksed for help...

In the case of duryodhan, he liked duryodhan because duryodhan was his very good student, he was very talented in the gada warfare and always showed good manners and respect for balarama ..so balarama was highly impressed by him...and had a soft spot for him..

Bhima was born on the same day as Duryodhan & his brothers. In fact, had Yudhisthir not been on the scene, Bhima would have had a fair claim to the throne - vis a vis Duryodhan.

Minakshi, have no idea what age the Pandavas were when Pandu died. But they were still kids - the attempt to poison Bhima happened during their childhood.

hi
Yuri was chosen as yuvraj because of his qualities and not age. in MB there is no mention of his being eldest the reason for becoming the heir apparent.

"Vaisampayana continued, 'After the expiration, O king, of a year from this, Dhritarashtra, moved by kindness for the people, installed Yudhishthira, the son of Pandu, as the heir-apparent of the kingdom on account of his firmness, fortitude, patience, benevolence, frankness and unswerving honesty (of heart). And within a short time Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti, by his good behaviour, manners and close application to business, overshadowed the deeds of his father."

But if Bhim was born on the same day as Duryodhan, the prediction that Hastinapur will be destroyed by the child would be applicable to him too, right. Or was it only if he becomes the king?

yea you have a point...maybe bheema was born a few minutes after duryodhan..maybe they must have predicted that a child born on so and so day and so and so time is inauspicous and bheem must ahve born before or after this time.

Or the inauspicious prediction was only for the child born to dhritarshtra and gandhaari..
