Is TV's new Bhishma imitating Mukesh Khanna?

Is TV's new Bhishma imitating Mukesh Khanna?
Arav Chaudhary as Bheeshma

Arav Chowdhary who plays Bhishma Pitamah in the TV show Mahabharat has been much appreciated for his performance.

Right from the time he played the young Bhishma to now, when he's an older man, the actor has been praised with the way he has enacted the part with conviction. However, some viewers are reportedly feeling that there are traces of Mukesh Khanna in his performance. Khanna played the patriarch in the older BR Chopra produced television show aired over two decades ago. He had a very peculiar style of acting and such was his portrayal of the character that he attained immense fame after this role.
And now, reportedly, it seems Arav has been inspired by him. Whether he has been specifically told by the makers of the new Mahabharat to borrow from Khanna or the inspiration comes from a subconscious level, isn't exactly clear. But as long as no one is complaining, the end result is good. After all, all is well that ends well.

If you cannot appreciate someone, at least don't put them down by unwanted comparisons: Arav Chowdharry

Star Plus' magnum opus show Mahabharat (Swastik Productions) has been doing wonderfully well and what really catches the attention of the TV watching audience is the perfect portrayal of each and every character by the talented ensemble cast.

And recently a leading newspaper's online site put up a story on Arav Chowdharry who plays Bheeshm saying that he was copying Mukesh Khanna, who had earlier essayed the same character in the B R Chopra produced Mahabharat.

We called up the good looking Arav who seemed least bothered about the report as he averred, "I work for my passion of acting and also for my fans who lovingly call themselves Aravians. Such kinds of reports do not affect my performance and their love for me. Thus I will not want to give such kind of reports any importance."

"Firstly I don't know how one can think about comparing me with Mukesh Khanna. We are both actors and are portraying the same character, that's it; there is just no room for any comparison. I believe in doing my work my way and leave the rest for my viewers to decide. I feel glad that when aged people who have seen the earlier Mahabharat also come up to me to say they enjoy watching me as Bheesm more," added the actor.

The actor who has won much acclaim for his acting and physique further shared, "From day one I have been playing Bheesm and his transition from a young man to this 200-year old man. The earlier Mahabharat had an old man playing this role while mine is a contemporary one."

"Bheesm was the strongest warrior ever who could stand alone against the 100 Kauravas. And since he was the one who also won against Parshuram, thus that strength had to be shown in him. If you check out the physique of all actors in the show, I can confidently say that I have one of the best bodies among them all," maintained Arav.

So what makes him work so hard for his character? "I feel there are very few actors in the industry who work so hard and I can proudly say that I am one of them. From my long and hard shooting schedule, I still manage to take my time out for regular workouts. And even with just a couple of hours of sleep, I have been able to maintain the same physique throughout," quipped the actor.

And finally we asked Arav as to how he feels about such stories that mark a sad part in an actor's life. He replied, "It's really sad that people do not leave a chance to belittle actors. I also believe that if you cannot appreciate or acknowledge someone, you should also not put them down by unwanted comparisons. An actor puts in so much of creative efforts to satisfy his character's need. And this kind of talk is the last thing they would ask for in their lives."

"We are here just acting a character. Tell me has anyone ever met the real Bheesm to pin point any similarity? That would have been a fact then. And anyways this character is also not owned by anyone. Tomorrow someone else will play this character, but you just can't go about comparing every other actor. Even Amitabh Bachchan has given the voiceover for the animated film on Mahabharat, so will the next comparison be with him?" questioned Arav.

Well Arav, keep working, for honest efforts always pays off!

Heartthrob Shaheer Sheikh, who is currently seen playing Arjun in Siddharth Kumar Tiwary's popular show Mahabharat on Star Plus, has turned a year older today. The actor is working on his birthday today and shares his special plans with TellyBuzz.

Shaheer was quite happy to see his on-screen brothers with whom he partied together and celebrated his birthday last night. The actor tells us, "I am working today on my birthday and I have no plans as such. If possible, then I will be going out with my on-screen brothers in the evening. We had a celebration last night. I love, respect and worship Draupadi : Pooja Sharma

by Newsroom Staff 2 days ago

Dussasan and DraupadiPooja Sharma who is playing Draupadi for almost four months now, have shot the most awaited and extensive sequence of Mahabharat i.e "cheer-haran" just few days back. We caught up with the actress to know more about her experience with "Mahabharat"

Q. How has been your journey so far?
Ans: It has been fantastic journey. I never expected this sudden popularity. I auditioned for the show few months back and got a call within two days. I knew I had to play an extremely important character like Draupadi but how big the responsibility is; I realized only when I started shooting for the show.

Q. You have to go through tedious process of getting into character of Draupadi everyday with heavy outfits and jewellery. Tell us something about that?
Ans: It takes me at least two and half hour for entire hair and make-up. I am Draupadi throughout the day. It takes me two and half hour to get ready and at least half an hour to come out of it. I just sleep for four to five hours. Wearing such heavy jewellery and outfit drains out my energy but when I get into the character I start feeling like Draupadi and I regain my energy.

Q. You are shooting so far from Mumbai, how often do you meet your friends and family?
Ans: I hardly get time to meet them; I go to Mumbai once or twice a month. I don't even call my parents on the sets as I feel conscious in front of them. I will not be able to act if they are here. So I am staying "Far from the madding crowd" and I think it's a good way to shoot because we don't play normal characters. Our characters are larger than life.

Q. We heard you talking in "Sanskrit Hindi", how do manage that?
Ans: Yes we talk in "Shuddh Hindi" these days. In real life also address each other with character names, like I call Krishna "Sakha" and then Pandavs address each other as "Bhratashree". So our world is very different from others. We will have difficult time coming out of our characters.

Q. Who is your favourite character in "Mahabharat" other than Draupadi?
Ans: Obviously Krishna, who else? He is the heart and soul of "Mahabharat"and lessons given by him are valid for every person. And my second favourite is my charater Draupadi. I am awe of Draupadi. I just love, respect and worship Draupadi. The kind of lady she was, the life that she lived, everything is awe-inspiring.

When Saurav Singh Gurjar lost his voice!

When Saurav Singh Gurjar lost his voice!

Siddharth Kumar Tewary's Mahabharat is going through a high point. The audiences are getting to see fights between two mighty fighters Bheem and Jarasandha played by Saurav Singh Gurjar and Tinu Verma respectively.

During the fighting sequence between the two of them, Saurav aka Bheem shouted a lot as required for the scenes. And at the end of the shoot, Saurav realized that he had lost his voice and was not being able to talk properly. "The fight between Jarasandha and Bheem is very intense and I needed to show my aggression through my voice. I put a lot of effort in that and the end result is that I lost my voice! On the sets I am calling everyone with my hands and gestures," says Saurav to us. Well no gain without pain, Saurav.
