https://31.media.tumblr.com/d263118c7c735b17b9febfe9d00c92b4/tumblr_inline_n1wjirscsP1r00rno.jpg

Translation:

"Tellywood's curret running TV Series Mahabharat has a very popular Arjun. Although in Screen he is the warrior prince,in real life Shaheer Sheikh is shy.

Q1: When you first got the offer of acting in Mahabharat as Arjun, how did you feel?

I have worked with Swastik Productions in Navya earlier. So, Swastik new my skills and abilities well. Mahabharat is huge project for both the production house and for me. So, I said yes to the role of Arjun before thinking very properly because I did not want to miss this chance.

Q2: How did you prepare yourself for the character ?

I read some books about Arjun. Then I looked after my body.I had to gain some weight. Had to grow my hair too. I had to start exercising, running and jogging.

Q3: Your ponytail look(Brahmin look) is a superhit among your fans?

(Smiles) Actually the track was the Pandavas are in the forest as Brahmins. My hair was coming in face in between shoots and creating trouble so I decided to tie up my hair in a small pony. This look has been favoured by my fans I am very happy about that.

Q4: How much points will you give yourself for making these looks of Arjun so popular?

Arjun is a warrior and a prince. It was my dream to do such a role. To me, Arjun's knowledge, Efficiency and behaviour is more important than his styling.

Q5: We can see a great chemistry between the Pandavas in the sets..what is the secret..?

Our offscreen chemistry is superb. It seems like we are really 5 brothers. If we all are together,It is hard to stop our mischief. Among them, Rohit, means Yudhishtir has worked with me earlier in Navya. And he was my brother there too.

Q6: Most of the time you shoot outside Mumbai. Outdoor shoots take a lot of time. What all have u missed in your life?

To say the truth I dont have any personal life I dont have any time for anything except shooting. If I get some free time,I sleep. I love sleeping. I miss sleeping the most.

Q7: Do you want to act in films in future?

I am happy with being Arjun now. I have no intention to go to movies by leaving TV just to show my face in a small role.I am happy in Tellywood for now.

Q8: Money,Fame and Awards..which is the most important to you?

Firstly money, then fame and then awards. But most important is doing good work. Otherwise none of these will come to.

Interview was taken by Srabanti Chakrabarti.

TV actors pick Bollywood films that they believe deserve to win an Oscar

The Oscar awards have been announced recently. And like every year, no film from India found a place in the nomination list of the prestigious awards.

Since 1957, India has sent 45 films to the Oscars as its official entry. Out of these, only three films viz Mother India (1957), Salaam Bombay (1988) and Lagaan (2001) were nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film' category.

Now, with the new age cinema coming in and filmmakers experimenting with different genres and concepts, we asked a few actors from Telly land on which film they feel should have won an Oscar.

Vivian D'sena: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag definitely deserves to win the Oscars. Firstly, the movie is about our national hero Milkha Singh and above all the film was beautifully shot and had Farhan Akhtar showing off his mettle as an actor; he did work really hard and performed wonderfully.
Soumya Seth: Undoubtedly it would be Mother India. Today we make such stupid movies even though we are so advanced in technology. I like the movie more because the time of its release was at par with the scenario the society faced then and secondly because I have never seen an actress as brilliant as Nargis Dutt
Kinshuk Mahajan: I am not talking from the Oscar-winning point of view. I recently saw Hansal Mehta's Shahid and feel it had a very worldly appeal to it. So if I have to choose a Bollywood movie for the Oscars, it would definitely be this film.
Sukirti Kandpal: I think Paan Singh Tomar is an incredible movie. Irrfan Khan's performance in the movie along with the concept and dialogues had me spell bounded. I wouldn't mind watching it over-and-over again. I think if the opportunity comes, Paan Singh Tomar should get nominated for the Oscars; am sure it would win.
Shaleen Malhotra: I think Mother India deserves to win the Oscars as it is one of the most amazing movies the industry has ever produced. I do not think such kind of a movie can ever be made again. As a matter of fact, here was one film that changed the image of a woman in that period. The storyline, direction, script and above all the actors were an asset to the concept of Mother India.
Vrinda Dawda: I feel Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is an excellent movie because of its concept and Farhan Akhtar's acting. It definitely deserves to win an Oscar.
Harshad Arora: Life of Pi had garnered a lot a lot of appreciation since it was a well-made film. I loved the acting of Irrfan Khan and also that of Suraj Sharma. I was amazed to see the way he (Suraj) carried himself in the entire movie. Additionally, it was a brilliant concept and the special effects and VFX used were extremely good. Life of Pi definitely deserved an Oscar.
Daljeet Bhanot: I think Barfi has been one of the finest films that we have had so far and it rightly deserves to win an Oscar.
Shaheer Sheikh: The best movie which deserves to win the Oscars would be Munnabhai M.B.B.S. Today directors are experimenting with very new and fresh concepts which help us understand our world and society better. And Munnabhai was a class-apart movie as it was very original and real.
Giaa Maanek: Amongst the recent films that I have seen, I think Highway is one movie which should win the Oscars. I think it was a very different film, the kind we have never seen in Bollywood ever. Moreover, I think it was very realistic in nature. The situation was something that can happen to anybody in real life.

These were the choices your favourite stars made. Which film according to you should win an Oscar? Hit the comment box below and send in your suggestions.

Balraam tells Arjun that either Subhadra will go with him to Indraprastha or Arjun will remain in Dwarka with Subhadra, Arjun promises him that he will take Subhadra with him to Indraprastha. Draupadi gets the new of Arjun coming with his new wife Subhadra. A furious Draupadi draws a line of fire, tells Arjun that he has broken their oath and is not allowed inside and leaves. An innocent Subhadra with her pure heart crosses the line of fire and comes to Draupadi to persuade her.

Shafaq Naaz yet another small town girl with a dream to enter the showbiz, has proved that Where there's a will there's a way'.

Tuesday, 04 March 2014 | SR | Bhopal | in Bhopal

The pretty girl from Meerut has entered the hearts of television audience through her unmatched skills and talent. Shafaq who is seen playing the role of Mata Kunti in mythological saga Mahabharata aired on Star Plus was here in the city of lakes on Monday. While in a rendezvous with The Pioneer, Shafaq shared her struggle story and also expressed her contentment over playing a role in magnum opus.

"I had auditioned for the role of Gandhari as well as Kunti, but I am happy that I picked up the character of Kunti. This was the decision I made rightfully. As Kunti is seen as one of the most important characters of the saga and ofcourse it has positivity somewhere."

On asking about the kind of challenges the role brought in front of her, she said, "Well this role undoubtedly was very challenging for me, but thankfully I did not face any kind of trouble in playing a role of a mother' of five children at the age of 20," Shafaq said laughingly. She also said, "Well, this role has a graph. Kunti is a woman, a loyal wife; a loving and a caring single mother, so this role meets up many new phases of a woman's life. So this is a role which I enjoy playing."

She further said, "Kunti is also very creatively challenging character I have played till date. I have never played a character of a mother before and to play the role of a mother of five elder kids who are actually older to me in reality is something again challenging. I feel like a princess, as the costumes and jewellery really amazed me," she added.

Shafaq Naaz began her journey with giving auditions. She is then seen in soaps Crime Patrol, Shubh Vivaah, Sanskaar Laxmi and many more and is best recognized with the role in Rajan Shahi's Bidaai as her debut on television and since then there is no turning back. On asking about outdoor shoots, she said, "Well we shoot in Umargoun and very rarely I visit home in Mumbai. So other than missing my family and friends there is no difficulty that I face on the sets." About her visit to Bhopal she said, "This is my first visit here and Bhopal is really a very beautiful and a clean city."

Epic transition

Having played the boy-next-door in Navya - Naye Dhadkan Naye Sawaal, Shaheer Sheikh has now effortlessly moved to playing the warrior prince Arjun in Mahabharat. With the audience now accepting him as Arjun, the actor talks about the challenges he had to face to seamlessly fit into a legend's armour.

Embedded image permalink

Playing an epic hero like Arjun is a daunting task. How did you prepare for it?

Honestly, when I was first offered the role, I was not sure of being able to do it as my Hindi is not that good. But then I realised that being offered to do the role of Arjun was a lifetime opportunity. A dream role " and it couldn't get better than that. So, I said yes. I then undertook proper training and grooming sessions. There was a teacher for diction classes, horse riding, weapon training among other things. The training went on for almost eight months. All of us, who are a part of the show are loving the challenges, because we get to shoot at a new location everyday. It's like an adventure.

Apart from the diction, you also had to work on getting the physicality right?

I was free for almost a year after Navya - Naye Dhadkan Naye Sawaal went off air. The day Navya... got over, I began training for Mahabharat. If I didn't have the time, then may be I'd have never been able to do justice to that character. We worked on my diet and everything. I weighed 78 kgs when I was doing Navya.., but now I'm 91-92 kgs. That was one of the drastic changes in me. Moreover, Mahabharat has made me a better person. It's brought discipline in my life and I'm more focused now.

Did you watch the earlier version of Mahabharat on television as a reference point?

People have a specific image of Arjun in mind " that of a larger-than-life character. I had to break that image and make him look real and human. The way I thought I could play Arjun was by understanding him and his journey. So, I started reading about him. I deliberately kept away from watching any version of Mahabharat on television to avoid getting influenced by them. I started building the character afresh, and it took me time to get it.

You think the gap of a year post Navya... helped the viewers accept you as Arjun, considering your character in that serial was of a boy-next-door?

People never forgot Navya.., so the biggest challenge for me was to break my image of a chocolate boy. Nobody could imagine me playing Arjun. Initially, there was a lot of negative feedback, people said things like he looks like a kid. But Arjun has his own journey. It started off with him coming out of Gurukul, and now he's learned to assert himself. And I've grown with the character too.

Doing a daily show on television is anyway hectic for actor, and then you are doing a show like Mahabharat. How gruelling is it?

I have to just remember one thing " that Arjun has actually done all this. He had to run through the jungle, he had to ride a horse for days and fight with people. So, if I have to act his part, then I have to do all of it. I've felt that the more I put myself into difficult or harder conditions, the more it'll look real. So, we were actually shooting in a real jungle, where we couldn't even get a vanity van. We stayed in tents. Sometimes I feel I'm living his life, that's how close I feel to Arjun. And now, it's so hectic that I even forget to call my family sometimes. But they see me on TV each day, so I'm the only one missing them. It's fun because the other four actors playing Pandavas are like four brothers, and we all work out together, eat together. It's only when I'm shooting alone that I get bored and want to go home!

1988 or 2013. Mahabharat has always been popular. Writes Rishita Mukhopadhyay.

There is a saying that "What is not there in Mahabharat is nowhere else. The literal meaning of this is there is nothing in Bharta which is not there in Mahbharata. This saying has been proved to be correct once again by the current running TV Series Mahabharat. This TV Series, which began on the 16th September last year has touched the peak of its fame. Leaving the other serials way behind..it has become the No 1 Tv Series. Why? Lets have a look

BEHIND THE SCENES

Swastik Productions have spend almost 100 crores behind this project of Mahabharat. It is the most expensive and high budget project in the history of small screen. Almost 20 crores have been spend behind the marketing of this project.! Many famous names are related to the serial. Creative inputs and scripts are doen by Bollywood's leading script writer Salim Khan. Costume design is in the hands of Oscar winning costume designer Bhanu Athaiya. Siddharth Anand Kumar is the director along with G.S Chauda, Kamal Moga and Loknath Pandey. The series has been dubbed into Bengali,Tamil,Telugu,Marathi and Malayalam too

Rathis and Maharathis

Mahabharat means the fights between Kauravas and Pandavas. Arjuna's Gandiv, Draupadi's Vastraharan and so much more extravaganza! And thinking of the characters..we remember some familiar faces. Hear Bheeshma..and we remember Mukesh Khanna. Mukesh Khanna played the role of Bheeshma in 1988 in the Mahbharat by B.R Chopra. This was the most challenging part for Arav Chawdhury. He is the Bheeshma for this generation. Arav, who has acted in "Gulal' in small screen and in "Dhoom" in big screen bagged the role immediately on receiving the offer. He potrayed Bheeshma in his own unique way. Even though there is doubt whether he is successful.. THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT SHAHEER SHEIKH IN THE ROLE OF ARJUNA, THE 3RD OF THE PANDAVAS AND THE BRAVE WARRIOR (POTRAYEDTHE HERO OF MAHABHARAT). THIS NEW ARJUN IS QUITE POPULAR BETWEEN THE VIEWERS. SHAHEER CAME INTO LIMELIGHT THROUGH "Kya Mast Hai Life" IN 2009. FOR MAHABHARAT, SHAHEER TOOK LESSONS OF HORSE RIDING, SWORD FIGHTING AND ARCHERY. APART FROM BEING EXTREMELY EFFICIENT ON BOTH ACTING AND PRESENTING HIMSELF ON SCREEN, SHEIKH HAS ALSO IMPROVED HIS BODY CURVES. Speaking of Arjun, the next character we remember is Krishna. And NO OTHER ACTOR but Saurabh Raaj Jain could have suited the role of Vasudev Shri Krishna.. Saurabh started his career in 2004 with "Remix" and in the middle of his career he started being casted by producers in different mythological serials ad Vishnu and Krishna. In Jai Shri Krishna and Devon ka Dev Mahadev, he potrayed the role of Lord Vishnu effieciently. As a result, in this high budget Mahabharat, no one could be thought as Krishna expect Saurabh Raaj Jain aka SRJ.. Although he has been compared with Nitish Bharadwaj in several cases, he was successful in making a space in the viewers' mind!

Pooja "Draupadi" Sharma also knew the fact that she will surely face comparisons with Roopa Ganguly (1988 Mahabharat Draupadi). Sharma, who came from the modelling world did alot of homework for this role. Speaking about comparisons, Sharma considers being compared to Ganguly as her big achievement. Praneet Bhatt, or Shakuni did not take up any project for 2 years to be prepare himself for the role of Shakuni. He prepared himself slowly. His style of closing one eye and speaking and referring to Duryodhana as "Mere bache" is quite popular. Aham Sharma as Karna has faced too much criticism. Many say, compared to Pankaj Dheer(1988) he is quite unconvincing. Mahabharat was looking for a strong Duryodhan, who will have both physical and acting skills. Arpit Ranka was selected for the role. Some years ago, Ranka won the Best Body Award in Glam-Rags Competition. There is only one similarity between the old Mahabharat and the new one. In both the serials, the role of "Satyavati" was played by Bengali girls. Debasree Roy in the older on and Sayantani Ghosh in this one. Satyavati was a challenging character for Sayantani. Ghosh has done several workshops to improve her acting, body language and diction.

And making all these hardworks successful... the first episode of Mahabharat has got 80 Lakh viewers. No other show before had received so many viewers in one single episode.

Mahabharat: Guess who this pretty actress is?

We have seen her playing one of the most beautiful queens of the Kuru clan in Star Plus's Mahabharat'. But in reality, who knew that she could look prettier than her on-screen avatar.

We are talking about actress Riya Deepsi, who is working as Gandhari, in the epic saga being produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary. Going by her Twitter pictures, we get a strong feeling that Riya is apparently a stylish girl-next-door who believes in living her life to the hilt. And above all, she comes across way more happier and content in her off-screen life than her screen self, Gandhari, the princess who was forced to lead an unhappy life with the blind King Dhritrashtra.

Don't miss watching the pics!
