Salim Khan behind Mahabharata

From Bhanu Athiya for costume design to Rajit Kapur for acting workshops, the makers of the upcoming TV show Mahabharata have ensured that they have the best talents from all fields on board. Keeping this theme going, they have now roped in writer Salim Khan as a consultant for their big-budget series.

The prolific writer says, "I have read the epic Mahabharata four or five times, including interpretations by many authors. I am well-versed with the Mahabharata and even Ramayana. So when Siddharth (Kumar Tewary, producer) approached me to write it (the show) I said I won't be able to take on the whole project, but I am here if you need any help. They have been in touch since they began work on the show (four years ago) and I have given my inputs and guidance wherever needed. I guide, correct and give suggestions to the team of writers, when they are going wrong."

Khan has been helping the team with the correct interpretation of the legendary tale and has been given credited for his support in the titles as well.

Khan explains, "I have read these books for knowledge and studied them. Many people feel Why should we read them as it isn't from our religion?' but not me."

The writer feels, "I've never come across a bigger screenplay than the Mahabharata and a better story than the Ramayana." Khan says that the two epics have had a huge influence in his writing as well. "In Sholay (1975) we had the same-sided coin and the billa (badge) Amitabh (Bachchan) has in Deewar (1975) " I learnt the art of doing that from the Mahabharata."
