Veebha as Subhadra in Mahabharat

The stage is set for the much-awaited mythological show, Mahabharat, produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary.

After finalising Krishna, Arjun, Draupadi and other pivotal characters, Siddharth has now roped in talented actress Veebha Anand to essay the role of Subhadra. According to Hindu mythology, Subhadra is the Krishna's half-sister and Arjuna's wife. She is Abhimanyu's mother.

A source informs, "Veebha has been yearning for long to break away from the image of Suguna " the character from Balika Vadhu " which catapulted her to fame. After featuring in an episode of Yeh Hai Aashiqui, in which she played a prostitute, her latest character will give a different dimension to her acting chops." Veebha confirms, "Yes, I am playing Subhadra in Mahabharat. I am really excited about it and am waiting for it to hit the tube."
As far as some of the other characters are concerned, actress Shikha Singh has been finalised to play Shikhandi while Sudesh Beri has been roped in as king Drupad (Draupadi's father). Veebha is expected to commence the shoot next week.

'Mahabharat' once again!

The new Mahabharat is all set to storm the small screen with its splendor and visuals effects. The magnum opus is gearing for a big start as it premieres on September 16, but it wasn't a smooth sail for the producers to bring the show on TV.

Produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary, the show's original concept is a brainchild of Star Plus channel itself. The show has been in the making for quite some time and has several known artists and actors involved in it. The veteran Rajit Kapur was roped in as the acting coach for the ensemble star cast that features the likes of Puneet Issar, Sayantani Ghosh and Saurabh Jain. Still, to present a grand epic like Mahabharat on a bigger canvas was a herculean task. Thus the ace set designer Omung Kumar was approached for the lavish sets. Also, the Oscar-winner costume designer Bhanu Athaiya has guided the team on the costumes.

Now, what matters the most for the audiences is the cast of the new Mahabharat. You have already been introduced to Krishna in the promos. Yes, Saurabh Jain, the famous Lord Vishnu of Mahadev plays Lord Krishna in the serial. The young TV buffs are also happy to see the handsome Shaheer Sheikh as Arjun. The former Disney actor Shaheer, was last seen in Navya, and now he is making a comeback on TV with Mahabharat.

Shikha Singh happy to create a niche with Mahabharat...!!

Shikha Singh happy to create a niche with Mahabharat
Shikha Singh

Talented and smart Shikha Singh is on roll these days. The actress has been bagging some powerful roles on TV one after the other.

After playing a cadet in Left Right Left, a dacoit in Na Aana Iss Des Laado and a terrorist in Chabbis Barah, Shikha is all set to play her first mythological character in Star Plus' Mahabharat.

Sources inform that Shikha has been finalized to play the role of Shikhandi a warrior princess and she will start shooting for the show soon.

Talking about her role Shikhandi in Mahabharat, Shikha says, "I am very happy and really excited to be working back with Swastik. Shikhandi is a warrior princess; she is very strong in nature. The character is very challenging and different from the roles that I have played before. Also the look that I will be sporting in the show is simply brilliant. The production house has put in a lot of hard work to design the look of each and every character. I still remember, I had bruises on my body after my first look test as the costume and jewellery weighs around 15-20 Kgs."

The actress, who will join Ronit Roy aka KD Pathak in Sony Entertainment Television's Adaalat as the new public prosecutor, feels blessed to have played such strong characters, "I feel very blessed and happy for the choices I have taken in my life. I remember people told me to not accept the role of a dacoit in Na Aana.. as it will stereotype me but I went ahead to do it. And today I feel lucky that I have created a niche for myself with these strong roles. I believe in the saying that patience pays off because now people approach me with strong, performer oriented roles and it's a big compliment for me," concludes Shikha.
