Chapter 6

Slowly she unbolted the door and tried to walk when just on the stairs did she realise her safety pin that was connected with the dupatta and her Choli from the back had opened.

She thought of going back in her room to get this fixed but before she could turn around she heard her massi calling out for her...

"Mayuri, Oh my God, you are looking so gorgeous" Veena massi came closer touching her blushed cheeks "this colour suits you, it makes you look fairer"

Mayuri timorously looked down while Veena kept a finger under her chin making her look up "stop shying now...go enjoy the party"

Mayuri beamed and walked towards the garden at the back of the house. Her eyes observed the decorations, food and the big stage just set up in the front and all the chairs and tables organised gracefully around the centre stage...

The stage itself was covered with small heart lights all around its corners. Mayuri had never seen such big parties before. The only thing she watched from childhood was her small town, few shops and her father's farms with illiterate people fighting over lands.

"Mayuri, how are you my child"

She turned around to greet her uncle Chaman Thakral "hello Mossaji, I am good. How are you?"

"Chaman smiled and kept his hand on her head "good to see you, where's your Father Surya Yadav?"

"Papa is coming on the marriage day, buy Ma is here" Mayuri gave a broad smile

"He should have left his farms for few days and enjoy in the city. Anyways I know he loves that village life. You enjoy my child" Chaman smiled and left...

Mayuri knew the truth that her father and Trishna's father don't get well with each other but that never affected her or her mother's relation with Trishna's family.

Mayuri walked slowly towards the huge table that was surrounded by girls wearing beautiful dresses and waiting for their chance to put on henna...

She glanced around and saw two ladies who had huge tray of henna cones kept on their sides and one by one they were applying the henna on every girl's hands...

Trishna was sitting with her feet in the front lifting her Lehnga ready to put henna on both her legs. Mayuri saw Trishna's hands filled with henna up till her elbows. She walked closer to Trishna "wow Trishna, this looks so beautiful"

Trishna smiled "yes I know, these are one of the best henna designers"

Madhu watched them while they were putting the henna...

Rishab stepped inside the house "hi mom"

Maya wasn't very pleased about Rishab attending the wedding "I can't believe Rishab, you will attend people's weddings now."

She crossed her feet while sitting on the huge luxurious couch

"You are The Rishab Singhania... I would definitely not go myself, and wouldn't prefer you going either"

Rishab stopped at the stairs "mom, you know its Vishal's wedding sangeet. He's my childhood friend. If it was somebody else, I wouldn't have even thought about going."

Maya got up from the couch "the last decision is yours, I am just letting you know"

Rishab knew her mother rarely attends any parties, and she would least prefer him to attend one "ok, I will go and give this gift and come back" though he knew his words wouldn't convince his Mother.

Rishab smiled and walked up to his room...

Maya knew her Son very well, she was sure Rishab wouldn't spend a lot of time in the party and she wouldn't suggest him either, since he's a celebrity and people will crowd around him.

Rishab quickly had shower and took out his suit, this was the second time he was attending a wedding. The first time he attended a wedding was when he was fifteen years old when his cousin sister got married but that was in Sydney so basically this was his first wedding to attend in Mumbai...

He smiled and quickly brushed his hair. He had absolutely no idea how people celebrate the weddings or what do people really do in sangeet. All he knew was, he will meet Vishal and his fianc then he would come straight back home.

"Ok mom..." he said while walking down stairs...

Maya didn't lift her eyes from the magazine "do come soon and be careful"

Rishab smiled "don't worry. Take care" he hugged her lightly and left...

Mayuri waited for her turn to put on henna...in the meantime she thought of eating something, since she was feeling a bit hungry.

One by one she went to every counter to check the variety of snacks that was displayed...though she was a bit fussy over eating. Being a vegetarian she checked extra carefully.

Mayuri thought about something and quickly kept the plate filled with food on the side and walked towards her room...

"Mayuri, it's your turn after Nisha" Trishna shouted...

Mayuri smiled "I will come right away" she picked up her Lehnga and took off the high heels that were acting as a hindrance in her walking...

She closed the door behind her and took out her old mobile phone that she mostly avoided in front of anyone, since everyone has smart phones nowadays...

Anybody would laugh at her but she knew there was no point asking her Father who would simply say no and if he gets more angry he might stop her college and keep her at home...

She dialled his number and waited for him to answer...

"Hello" Rishab picked up the phone looking at the number "I was waiting for your call yesterday but you"

Before letting him complete she cut in between "are you vegetarian?"

"What?" Rishab immediately stopped the car on the side, surprised at this stranger girl who wants to know more about him...

She was waiting for his answer "tell me" she insisted that made him smile...

He was sure of one thing today, he was talking to someone very innocent in the world of today. Where everything is moving so swiftly this innocent girl has asked this question "Yes"

She took a deep breath of relief...as if it was some burden on her chest "Thank God"

Rishab laughed this time unable to control the laughter that was bursting out...

Mayuri was surprised as to why he was laughing "I just asked you, nothing special. Don't laugh"

But deep inside her heart she felt somewhat contented to know that he was vegetarian, because in her whole family she was the only vegetarian and she recalled her mother teasing her every time that she will find a boy who is vegetarian for her.

"Nothing special. Hmm" he repeated after he stopped chuckling.

She wanted to talk a lot, but then she knew her balance on the phone was low "actually I can't talk more, the balance is very low and I can't go at this time to get recharged."

Rishab smiled and nodded at her virtuousness "I can call you back" he looked at the time "I hope it won't be late for you"

Madhu thought over, she can speak to him at night since her mother will be busy with tomorrow's preparations "can you call me after midnight"

"Of course I can" he said immediately

Mayuri smiled "ok, I have to go now. Bye"

She disconnected the phone

Rishab smiled and shook his head...how can anyone in today's fast growing world be so virtuous and innocent. Till now after talking to her a few times over the phone he understood that she was extremely simple girl who may be hails from some small place in the country.

But Rishab felt a deep connection with her as if she was his soul mate. She confirmed if he was vegetarian. He smiled, this was one thing even he wanted to know. "Another common thing M" he said to himself and started the car.
