PART 41

"Lets go and sleep.", he broke the silence. I took a satisfying breath and turned towards the room. He stayed back and cleaned up the kitchen desk. I changed into my jammies and cleaned up the bed so that it was comfortable for the two of us. He walked in the room a while later, in his trackpants. "Where did you change?", I asked...popping my eyes out. "In the guest room.", he said and pushed his hands in his pockets. I nodded and bent down to pull the bedcover. "Are you sure you working this long, is safe?", he asked striking his beard with his fingers. "Yah. I don't think it is an issue.", I told him and turned to my closet and took out extra pillows. "I have been thinking...do we need a bigger home?", he whispered. That's when I realized that he had come so close to me. I gasped as his breath brushed my skin. "Am sorry.", he stepped back. "No...", I left a sigh. "Its ok! I was just, not prepared.", I bit my lip. He smiled softly. "And no...we don't need a bigger house. This is perfect. I love it here.", I said...flashing a smile. He nodded and walked to the window. "Its beautiful view from here.", he sighed. "Yes it is. Mornings are so serene.", I replied as I cleaned up the couch so that he could keep his things. "RK.", I asked. "Yes?", he turned and grew attentive. "Umm...are you sure you want this baby?", I asked. "Yeah. I am. Its my chance at redemption?", he grew morose. "Redemption?", I narrowed my brows. "Yeah..for all the bad stuff I have done to you.", he replied. "Oh God! RK. Can you please forget about that?", I sighed. "Its hard. Whenever I see you, it feels that all of those tears are because you decided to marry a dick like me.", he chuckled softly and stared at me. "So that's it? After coming out of the guilt of your first marriage, you've taken to feeling guilty for everything between us? Gosh RK! You're.", I sighed. "A dick.", he looked at me. There was silence for a moment as we both stared into each other's eyes and then I broke into a chuckle. His dimples grew deeper and he laughed back. "You know, I am still allowed to run.", I winked. "What do you mean?", he narrowed his brows. I gasped and ran towards him. He extended his hands to grasp me as I grew closer. I ran closer and found my way to his neck. Holding it in my hands, I pushed my lips on his. He clasped my waist as our bodies clashed and stuck on each other. I jumped and climbed on him. He tightened his grasp on my waist and kissed me with greater passion. I broke a kiss, "...see!", I felt shortness of breath. "I love you!", I told him. He flaunted his dimples and kissed my forehead carrying me to the bed.

Leaving me down, he stood over me, holding his body on his palms. He kissed my cheeks one by one and then dropped his lips onto mine again. "We're not doing it.", he broke the kiss and told me. I grumbled as he fell on my right and pulled a blanket over us. I smiled and watched him fall asleep. Turning away, I slept.

He was gone when I got up next morning. There was a note addressed to me on my side table. I yawned and opened it.

"I have to go. Early morning flight to Brisbane. Emergency meeting. I am sorry. I'll be there soon."

Short and sweet. Typical RK. I smiled and dragged myself out of the bed and smiled while I made breakfast.

After I came out of the shower, I heard a knock. It was mom and papa. I leapt onto my dad when I saw him. He was in tears. "You've grown up, baby girl.", he whispered stroking my hair. "It seems I haven't seen you for so long.", I sighed and whispered to him. He kissed my hairs and I broke the hug and hugged mum. "Where is RK?", she smiled and looked inside. "He left. He had an emergency meeting and he couldn't avoid it.", I sighed and showed them the way inside. They sat on the couch. "Maa! Tum paani khud le lena. Don't expect anything womanly of me.", I winked and told her jumping on the couch. "Easy.", she reminded me. I bit my lip. She poured water for the 3 of us and sat on the sofa. "You say the same to your mother-in-law", she glared. "I am a good daughter-in-law", I smirked at her. "It doesn't seem so.", she rolled her eyes. "Leave it, you two!", dad intervened. "I thought Madhu's marriage would instil some maturity in this mother-daughter bond...but you guys are as insane as ever.", he rolled his eyes. I laughed until my tummy hurt badly. We had food and then I slept with my mom by my side.

I woke up after dusk. I could hear the utensils outside, mom was probably making dinner. I stretched myself and inspected the room. Body felt so much better after an afternoon nap. Groping around, I located my phone and saw the LED blinking. "Notifications", I yawned and opened my phone. A couple of WA, BBM and messenger notifications and then voice mails. "RK", I spoke out loud seeing voicemails.

"I called up Maa and she told me you were sleeping...after you didn't pick up my calls. Don't check ur calls log, I called twice only. Checking if you're ok. Reply back as soon as you wake up."

I smiled and pressed the second one.

"You're still asleep? Its been 3 hours. Madhu?"

I rolled my eyes hearing the second one.

"I called Maa again, and she told me you're still asleep. Are you feeling well."

I chuckled. He sounded hilarious at times.

"Don't call me back. I am in a meeting. I'll be back at around 11 at night. If you're still awake, we could talk?"

I nodded hearing the proposal.

I pressed the recorder button-

"Its me. I finally woke up, 5 minutes ago. I feel ok. I think mom's amazing lunch made me overeat and then I overslept. I am allowed to rest right. So yeah, to sum it up...don't be mad. Being around mom was really satisfying for me. I am fine RK. Don't worry."

I pressed the send button and waited. Mom called me for dinner and I softly nibbled, piece by piece and then had my vitamins and iron and other health substitutes. I observed the clock that hung from my kitchen cabinet. It was 9:30 when mom asked me to go and sleep. "Mom!", I protested. She stared at me, making sure she conveyed that she wouldn't take no for an answer. I sighed and headed to my room. He said we would talk at 11. I sat on my bed, with my laptop on, waiting for his video call. Clock struck 10 and I started yawning. Keeping the laptop on the laptop, I lied down promising myself to not fall asleep. But YAY. The last time I checked the watch, it was 10:15...after that, I probably fell asleep.

I turned to the other side in my sleep and felt warm. The warmth woke me up and I felt my cheeks lying on a warmer surface. I opened my eyes and my lips brushed against skin. I looked up and saw RK looking at me, with a dim smile on his face. It took me a minute to realise what happened and then I woke up, and sat in front of him. "I thought...", I yelled. "Hmm...I knew...", he smiled and sat up. "I am so glad you're back.", I jumped and hugged him. He brushed my hairs with his palm. "I am glad too."

"Cmon, lie down. You should sleep.", he grew stern. "You just came home?", I protested. "I'll stay here.", he told me pointing his fingers on the bed. "Arre, no!", I crossed my hands on my chest. "Madhu. I shall take the next flight and go back to Brisbane.", he told me. "I know you won't do that.", I flicked my hair. "You know I can, and I would...if you don't lie down.", he said. I thought, yes... He could. Sighing, I lied down where he told me. He pulled the blanket up and then wrapped his hand around me and slept tucking his face in my hairs.
