We saw a very resourceful Madhu winning the challenge with elegance and being even more graceful in victory.....and then she spoke a line that struck a deep chord in me...and I somehow felt Madhu had, in very simple terms, described her entire nature in just one line -
"Maine Apni Poori Zindagi Vishwaas Pe Jee Hai Aur Aage Bhi Jeeyungi ! "
Madhubala Devki Nandan was born and brought up by her grandmother in the small town of Mathura...a place not just known for the worship of Lord Krishna but which had ties to Krishna's life in ancient times.
Since childhood, Madhu developed a very special bond with Lord Krishna ...like we call our close friends with special names...Madhu too named him Pyaare Kaahaa or PK and the symbol of Krishna's divinity, his Mor Pankh as Mopu.
Whatever may have been her journey from child to a young adult...PK was always in her heart and Mopu was always by her side...Madhu's Vishwaas was not a sacred rite of nature and neither was it the word of God...Her Vishwaas was never perfect and always flawed...and that is what made her Vishwaas even more real.
I love Jr Madhu as a character till now because to me she is very real...she is very much humane...she is very much a mistake-prone, struggling human being who manages to rise above her problems...
Madhubala - The Young Girl :
Her Dida's illness forced Madhu to take up the mantle of responsibility a little to early in life...Madhu was still a young girl and not a capable adult...yet she took it up with fortitude...it took a lot of bravery for a young girl to leave the security of her small town and come to Mumbai all alone...
Mumbai introduced Madhu to a very different side of life...not only did she have to struggle for her job but also she had to face cruelty at home...in some places her still childish antics made her a misfit, in some places her innocence made her a victim to domestic abuse...
It would be very easy to think she was weak and stupid...but realistically speaking, at a young age without any experience of the world and that too in a city unknown, anybody facing such sudden attacks at home would be cornered and hurt ...
But what I found appreciable was how Madhu refused to give up...in her first response to evil, woh jhuki zaroor par tooti nahin....She quietly strengthened herself and went on with her priority for Dida.
Then came the dicey nature of the right thing vs the easy thing...Madhu chose the easy route ...she lied to everyone about her workplace ...a lie told in a situation where she needed a job to save Dida's life...
Along with this...we saw the girl in Madhu who dreams of her Superstar...and just like any crazy fangirl she reacted in a very predictable manner in front of AK...silly antics, comic fumblings and crazy ideas....but amidst all her girlishness, on holi, we saw a very innocent wish of her heart...to love her star and be loved in return...
Par iss umar mein dil sirf behekta hai...sochta nahin...and that is what Madhu did when her dream idol proposed her...She chose to believe her heart and be led along...Did she know what love was ? Dis she know that the starry infatuation of a girl's heart since her childhood was actually love or not ?
How poignant was the car scene after the proposal...Madhu's innocent reference to her childhood love for a man nearing his forties created a marked contrast...showing us that see...this isnt the love of a woman for a man but the puppy love of a starstruck girl...
Further down the line, we find a shaken and confused Madhu who is unsure about the biggest decision of her life without any guidance...many external influences surrounded her but she chose her simple faith in PK to guide her...a naive test with Mopu to decide the course of her life...yahan pe bhi Madhu's Vishwaas is at work...a faith that is still blind and therefore altered by evil very easily...
Interestingly I found The girl Madhubala to show influences of Radha's upbringing many times...the traits of her real parents were not as prominent ...
Madhubala - The Girl Growing Up Into A Woman :
A girl doesnt grow into a woman in a single night...and its this transition which is the hardest...for naive simple Madhu, this transition proved more difficult that most.
On the day that was supposed to be her happiest, she received major setbacks in life...the truth of her identity , the shock of betrayal and the bigger shock of being tied down for life to a special child...she reacted like a normal person...went into shock, then denial of the situation, desperation to reverse it and finally running away from the problem using Raju as an excuse...
But there were glimpses of the girl growing up here...her accepting her lie as her mistake...her accepting her small part in the entire problem ...it made me take notice...yeh Madhu Mahaan nahin hai...par achchi insaan insaan zaroor hai.
Again when faced with a situation where she was unsure...her Vishwaas came to her aid...it was very telling how much she believed in her God that she let herself wander with the passing priests until her fate took her back on the right path...and Madhu decided to choose the path her Vishwaas showed her in the form of a fallen inhaler.
Her enemy had the upper hand...the threat of Dida's critical state and the control over Raju's legal guardianship...effectively binding her to a villain's whims...but despite these shackles she chose the biggest form of rebellion...AK wanted her to pay...Madhu called his revenge a madness to his face and refused to be a part of it...instead she chose to save an innocent victim rather than fight over an insane grudge.
It is easy to think she is weak...but she isnt...there is a quiet strength in JM that shakes everyone up...no matter what anyone says to her, JM always does what she wants to do...be that is getting Raju to Lonavla or making AK pay the hospital bills😆...Strength sirf baar baar BBB karne mein nahin hota...There are many kinds of Strength.😆
And this is from where starts the real introduction of Madhubala's actual mettle.😎...the glimpse of the fighter instinct of her father and the survival instinct of her mother...brought to the forefront when faced by the biggest obstacle of her life...
And henceforth we witness how Madhu gradually develops...first the awkward then tentative and then easy handling of Raju😳...the initual hesitance of accepting a forced relation and then the later maturity of accepting the same relation to show there was no shame in it😳...the initial attempts of making Raju a temporary responsibility until she could leave him somewhere safe and then the later bravery of accepting him as not just her fulltime responsibility but also her life companion.👏
It was easy to see Raju getting better under Madhu's help😆...it was even easier to see how attached they were becoming of each other😆...what was more subtle was how Madhubala too was growing up into a woman because of the responsibility of Raju...😆👏
Also there were growing signs of her parents in her...be that RK's BB skills, Madhu's selfless caring, RK's acting prowess when she acts to trick ATama, or Madhu's sherni avatar when defending Raju😆...or even RK's ego that makes her refuse to bend to anyone.🤣
Again the pool challenge she threw to AK...and her words to the doctor...the reference to Savitri ...her simple faith-dependant words were a reflection of her deep-rooted Vishwaas...
her dialogues may have sounded very old-fashioned😆...but they were perfectly true to her character.😆
I was not surprised when she demanded justice from God in return for her faith after Raju's accident...after years of surviving on that Vishwaas, when one is betrayed by life so bad, after a point it becomes essential that their faith be proved right by God...
I wont linger on the Raju and Gudiya relationship😆...maybe another essay post but not now😛...in reference to JM's character and that bond I will simply say this...Raju was dependant on Madhu for his own survival😆...and Madhu was dependant on Raju for her own happiness.😳
Survival and Happiness, two things that are meaningless separately but make the journey of life when put together.😳
And thus Madhu grew up from girl to woman...what I find interesting is that this growth was also the growth of her Vishwaas😆...from a naive Vishwaas prone to outside evil influence, her Vishwaas underwent a change to a strong unwavering Vishwaas that was not blind faith anymore...her Vishwaas was more active now, supported by her actions and not just her heart.👏
Madhubala - The Grown Woman :
Well this woman is still growing😆...but most of her character has taken shape it seems...she is now truly the daughter of RK and Madhubala in spirit if not by her outward appearance...and still she is unique and her own person. ⭐️
RK resides in her anger and Sr Madhu in her love but Jr Madhubala rises above both to be a special individual on her own...⭐️
Madhu is unable to accept the change of innocent Raju to dangerous Raja...she is still reeling from the fact that he uses violence as an answer to every problem...her main complaint against Raja seems to be not that he killed AK but that he felt no remorse and is not burdened by the bojh of taking a human life...something that plagued even RK the Right Kameena after he thought he killed Bhai !!!😲
Her resistance to him goes further deep when he discards Raju from himself declaring Raju dead...😭
But in reference to her character, JM remains firm in her stand...angry at times😆...resourceful and clever at other times😳...but very much a woman of her own mind now.
I see RK in her refusal to apologize or bend😆...I see Madhu in her graceful victory😆...but overall I see a very nice blend of her parents now that makes Jr Madhubala her own woman.⭐️
She is still learning😆...JM is by no means perfect😆...she is not even a typical sacrificing heroine😆...she is a humane and more real woman ruled by the duality of strength and softness.😆
And that is why I love this Madhu. I can relate to her cuz she is very much real.😳
Do share ur opinions too...this is just my POV...I hope we can have a nice discussion even if we agree to disagree at some point.
PS - Dont bash my essay writing habit please...I did try to use colors to compensate for the boredom .
