The most important goal for every normal high school girl is not to get good grades but to be asked out for Prom. It is the culmination of their high school career; the make it or break it moment that either makes them legendary or ordinary nobody. Everything must be perfect, the cutest boy as a date, the most beautiful, outrageously expensive dress, the most sparkling pair of shoes and perfectly coiffed hair.
Vibha is no ordinary young woman, not with the legendary blood of Superstar RK coursing through her veins. But legendary or no, her competitive Kundra blood demands that she attend and be the most popular, beautiful girl to be named Prom Queen. The title is hers for the taking and everything has been set in motion for her to take reign. But there's only one obstacle in her path and his name is Rishabh Kundra.
Fearing a no but determined to get a yes, Vibha paces nervously in their family room for RK to return home. Every once in a while she looks at the door, willing for her daddy to walk through it.
Madhu (sitting on the couch, asks serenely): Vibha stop pacing so much. (Smiles slightly) You're wearing out our newly varnished wooden floor.
Vibha (glares at Madhu): Hang the floor mom. I have far more pressing matter to think about.
Madhu (quietly): Yes I can see how attending Prom is indeed a most pressing matter.
Vibha (annoyed): Mom!!! I thought you're on my side?
Madhu (quirks her brow): I am on your side missy. Now stop being so nervous and show some confidence like a Kundra. (Shakes her head and mutters) You already display the fine Kundra quality of making a big deal out of nothing.
Vibha (glares): Really mom. I don't know why you can't seem to understand the importance of attending prom and you know daddy. (Makes a face) He never lets any boy come even 5 feet near me. Still daddy HAS TO AGREE this time. (Stomps her feet) Ugh! Why is daddy not here yet?
Madhu: You know your daddy. (Mutters sarcastically) RK loves to keep everyone waiting till he can make a GRAND entrance.
RK (clears his throat and smirks): Shaitaan ka naam liya aur RK hazir. Biwi...Superstar RK doesn't need to make a GRAND entrance...I am just simply GRAND.
Madhu rolls her eyes as Vibha runs past her to RK.
Vibha (hugs RK): Daddy! When did you come? I didn't see you come in and I had my eyes trained on the door for the last one hour now.
RK (tweaks Vibha's nose): Ahaan. I haven't received such an enthusiastic welcome home from my mini Glycerine in a while. (Teases) You must want something really badly and want my agreement.
Vibha (pouts): That's not fair daddy. I don't even cry as often now and you still call me Glycerine.
RK (pulls her cheeks and smiles adoringly): You will always be my baby girl and (teases) my mini Glycerine even at the ripe old age of fifty.
Vibha (grimaces): Daddy!
RK (laughs): Deal with it kiddo. (Sobers) Now spill it...I know you want something.
Vibha looks at Madhu for moral support.
Madhu (stands up, approaches the duo, holds Vibha's hands for support and encourages gently): Go on...ask him.
Vibha (nervously): Daddy...Prom is next Saturday and all my friends are going. I want to dress up, get crowned the Prom Queen and dance the evening away. Daddy I want to go...please daddy...please!
RK (angrily): You're not going to Prom young lady and most certainly not with a date!
Vibha (burst into tears): Daddy! That's not fair!
RK (softens his tone): Sorry sweetheart but you're not going.
Madhu grabs RK's arms and angrily turns him to face her): Excuse me Mr. Rishabh Kundra! You can't just say no and expect to not give us any explanation.
RK (helplessly): I don't want her to go so some boy or boys can take advantage of her.
Madhu (rolls her eyes): Ohh for the love of God!
Vibha (mutinously): Seriously daddy. You have no faith in your daughters!
RK (defensively): I do to have faith in you and your sister! (Mutters darkly) It's those good for nothing boys that I have to always worry about.
Vibha (snaps): Well daddy you could show some faith in our ability to handle a tough situation. (Sniffles) I am sure we can handle those so-called good for nothing boys just like mommy handles you.
RK (outraged): Hey...hey...comparing how you can handle a boy forcing himself on you to how your mom handles me is like comparing man and ape!
Madhu (grins): Really? I thought it was a darn good comparison.
RK glares at Madhu while Vibha stifles her giggles.
Madhu (continues): RK...I love you...
Vibha (pipes in): WE...love you...
Madhu: But your protectiveness...
Vibha (finishes): Is WAY WAY WAY...over the top!
Madhu (reasons): Prom is a school sponsored event. So it will be a controlled environment for Vibha to have good, clean fun.
Vibha (cajoles): Daddy I will be quite safe at the prom. You never let me go out with friends to parties or date like you let Arjun.
RK (defensively): I don't allow Arjun to go to wild parties and cavort with girls!
Madhu (quirks her brow): Really patidev? Then where is our son tonight? He is most definitely not home.
RK (mutters): That son of mine just couldn't stay home tonight so I could win this bloody argument. (Loudly) Okay so he is out with some friends but that doesn't mean he is partying like an animal!
Madhu (sarcastically): No he is out partying like a superstar. (Challenges) You thought you covered for him (disapprovingly) but I know he came home roaring drunk last night.
Vibha (pouts): Daddy the double standard that you have for us is not fair. You let Arjun do as he pleases but won't even let me go to a school sponsored dance. That's not fair treatment!
RK (throws his hands up in the air in defeat): Okay...fine! You can go to Prom...
Vibha (stresses): With a date.
RK (shakes his head vigorously): No...I won't trust some horny boy to take you to the dance. Your mom and I will drop you off and pick you up at the end.
Vibha (horrified): Mommy! Say something...please make daddy see reason before he makes me a complete laughingstock at school.
RK (stubbornly): That's the deal young lady if you want to go to Prom.
Madhu: Well...reconsider the deal Mr. Rishabh Kundra unless (smiles sweetly) you want to sleep on the cold, hard floor tonight and for the rest of the year.
RK (gapes): What the hell?!? You mean...you will withhold...?
Madhu (smirks): Ahaan. I am simply a mother using her ace card to negotiate on the behalf of my daughter.
Vibha (mutters): A daughter who wishes she didn't understand the current bargaining chip.
Madhu (ignores Vibha and continues): So that's my deal to your Mr. Rishabh Kundra. Either let Vibha go to the Prom with a date or kiss your warm, comfy bed and all that it entails goodbye for the rest of the year.
RK (mutters darkly): Damn woman! You drive a hard bargain. (Exhales loudly and throws his hands up in the air again in defeat) Okay fine! (To Vibha) You can go to Prom with a date. But I want you home by midnight and not a minute later!
Vibha (squeals with delight and hugs RK): Thank you...thank you...thank you daddy! You won't regret your decision...I promise.
Prom Night
Like a well-trained predator, RK waits patiently for his prey to arrive. Upon his arrival, he greets him jovially due to Madhu's presence. She gives him a warning glace before going upstairs to help Vibha finish getting ready.
Vickram is a strapping young man and RK grudgingly has to admit even quite handsome, which is all the more reason he must take precautions to protect his precious jewel of a daughter. RK invites Vickram, or Vick as the young man prefers it, into his media room under the pretext of showing him his vintage movie collection.
He gestures Vick to sit down on a chair strategically facing his writing desk that he had put in a few years ago. RK sits in the opposite chair, behind his desk.
RK (smirks): Do you know why I brought you up here?
Vick (excited): To show me your collection sir. (Looking around the room) Vibz did say once that you have an extensive collection of vintage movies.
RK (continues smirking): Ahaan. I do indeed have an extensive collection of vintage movies but that's not what I am interested in showing you today.
Vick (confused): Ohh...But...I thought you said downstairs that you wanted to show me something important in your media room and...
RK (interrupts): You just assumed that I will show you my movie collection. Na-uh. Young man...I have a far more interesting collection to show you. (Opens his safe and pulls out a vintage, dueling pistol) For instance, this baby right here (points mockingly at Vick) it may not be very accurate but it's still quite deadly. So what if on the first shot it may hit your foot, then the second one your balls and then the third...ahh...finally...a bullet straight through your heart.
Vick (swallows convulsively): Ss...irrr...what...what...what's your point?
RK (conversationally): Historically, fathers used to call out any men who dared to get too close to their daughters and hurt them. (Looks at the gun and smiles sidewise) I wouldn't mind giving this baby a try if the occasion warrants it.
Vick (terrified): Are...are...you...you...threatening me?
RK (mocks): Threat? My dear boy...Superstar RK does not make threats...(smiles sinisterly) he makes promises and fulfills it. (Puts the gun inside the safe) Anyway, I just wanted to show you my beloved dueling pistol that I am just itching to use if anyone should ever dare to mess with my girls.
Vick (fearfully): I understand sssiirrr.
RK (smiles and stands up): Good! Glad we had this conversation and came to a mutual understanding.
