Chapter Twenty-Two - Caught
I tiptoed out of my room and headed straight towards the study room, which was two doors left of my room. I turned the knob and wasn't surprised that it was unlocked. After all, the Maliks assumed that everyone there was trustworthy, or so they thought. I headed into the room, making sure to slowly close the door behind myself. It creaked, I froze, then I slowly closed it again. I switched on the light and looked ahead at a desk with a desk lamp and a computer monitor on it. Behind the desk was a bookshelf full of hundreds of books. To the right, a filing cabinet. Filing cabinet. Where else would I find something against the man? It was the perfect place to hide something. Now all I had to do was find a key to the filing cabinet. He probably kept the key with him...I just hoped to get lucky and find the key within the room somewhere. I headed straight towards his desk. I opened the top right drawer and rummage through it. There was nothing more than a stapler, some pins, pens, loose unimportant papers. I closed the drawer. I opened the larger drawer below the smaller one I had just searched. I rummaged through it as well. This one just had papers. A lot of papers. Frustrated, I slammed the drawer closed. Then my eyes landed on the same drawer. My hand slowly re-opened it. I looked down at the pile of papers and began looking through them. This time looking for something I had thought I'd seen.
Then I found it.
My father's name stood out like nothing had ever stood out to me before.
Mohan Kundra.
I pulled the paper out. On the same paper, Madhu's father's name.
Shamsher Malik.
I skimmed over it as my blood began to boil.
Property papers.
Her father had scammed my father of our property. That explained why we suddenly went from being a family full of wealth to living in a small home. That explained everything. He probably had my father killed to. He probabl...
My thoughts were interrupted by a shadow. I hadn't even heard the door open. I slowly began to look up and found myself staring at the man who snatched me of everything.
"What do you think you're doing here?"
I kept silent, knowing if I even attempted to say something...something else would end up coming out.
"Give me that!"
He snatched the property papers out of my hands and stared down at them.
"What are you doing with this?"
He scanned the papers himself.
"I said, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THIS!"
He slammed the papers onto the table, not startling me one bit as I stood my ground in front of him. He grabbed me by the collar.
"I knew you had some dirty trick up your sleeve. I knew you're using Madh..."
"PAPA!"
Our heads shot towards the right, only to see Madhu standing there in shock. She ran towards us and pulled her father's hands off my collar. She stood in front of me as she stared up at her father.
"Madhubala, this is none of your business right now. Get out of this room right this instant."
"Papa, no. You snatched him away from me once and I won't let you do it to me again."
"Snatched? Snatched who? What?"
There was a moment of silence in the room, then I placed my hand on her shoulder. She glanced over her shoulder, back at me, and I nodded my head. She stepped out of my way. I took one step forwards and came face to face with her father.
"RK. Rishabh Mohan Kundra."
I said my name so firmly, with emphasis on Mohan. The reaction on his face contorted. At first a look of shock, then confusion. He glanced at the papers on the table and then back at me. Then...a smile crossed his face. Tears filled his eyes.
And suddenly I was in an unwanted embrace from his end. I didn't react at first, utterly shocked by his reaction, then I pushed him away.
"Get off of me you backstabbing jerk!"
"RK?!"
I heard her stunned voice to my left but ignored her. It no longer mattered to me what the consequences of my actions would be. I was here and I wasn't going to miss out on my chance.
"You stole my father's property! You took everything from him! You scammed him and then had my parents killed! YOU MURDERER! You'll pay. I'll make you pay. Even if it's the last thing I do."
I could almost feel the fire from within me waiting to burst free. My eyes were wet with fury as I stared down the man in front of me.
Then a smile crossed his face again.
"I thought you died Rishabh..."
"No. You WISH I died! But I didn't. I'm here and I'm going to avenge my par..."
"I'm so glad you're alive."
I fell silent once again. What was he saying? Then I heard Madhu speak to my left.
"What's going on...I'm so confused..."
She even sounded adorable in her confused state.
"Rishabh. I need you to listen to me. I need you to give me a chance, hear me out."
"Why. Why should I even give you a second to explain yourself?"
"Do it for Madhu."
My weakness. It was like he knew she was my weakness...well, everyone probably knew she was. I glanced towards my left and saw her staring at me with a gentle smile on her face. She nodded her head slowly, gesturing for me to agree. I sighed and unclenched my fists, which I hadn't even noticed I had clenched. Then I looked back at him.
"Only for her."
