Chapter 1
Dare Touch My Solitude
The clock swayed back and forth, the ticking noise was the only sound that dared to disrupt the ear piercing silence. Bored out of his wits end, he sat there in the chair playing with a silver coin that spun harshly against the desk table. An elderly man sat directly across from him, looking even more annoyed. The wrinkles that stretched across his forehead scrunched closer together as the man tried to keep the minuscule drop of patience within him.
"I have made my decision regarding this case." the man sighed finally breaking. He eased back into his chair as he fixed the papers on the desk. A golden name plate rested at the edge of the desk, engraved in a darker gold, read the name "Judge Mehra"
Folding his hands, he looked straight ahead at the young man whose future rested in his hands. About in mid 20's, the dark haired man was not just any offender that was ordered into his chambers. The nonchalant face he wore irked the judge into a higher degree of sheer annoyance.
The coin kept spinning not paying any heed to the judges words. Another act of defiance.
"Mr. Rishabh Kundra, do you realize why you are here today?" Mehra asked raising his eyebrow. His hands now folded in his lap.
"RK. I am and will only be referred to as RK, nothing else. I have told you more than once now. And I was under the impression you wanted a few of my autographed head shots" RK said as he placed both his heads behind his head, meeting the judges eyes firmly. His face was still completely bare, no indication of any possible expression. Cold enough to kill.
Mehra looked at the file that was sitting on his desk and read aloud. "Mr. Rishabh Kundra we are here today for the case of State V. Kundra under the charges of being under the influence of recreational drugs, Marijuana," Mehra said looking up at RK who flashed a smirk in response, "while driving a vehicle. Mr. Kundra this is now your second offense involving DUI." The tone of Mehra's voice changed quickly from calm to anger in a flat second.
"Judge sab, I thought that we were able to work out a deal." Bittoji asked cautiously, "I had discussed with the District Attorney about the possibility of maybe striking a plea bargain?" Bittoji said hesitantly, weighing in each of the words as he looked back RK.
"A plea bargain for your Superstar here? A plea bargain so he can avoid more jail time and he can go back and continue to do nothing with his life until I find him back in my office in a couple more weeks?" Mehra's nostrils flared in hatred.
RK got up from his chair and walked to the other end of the room where a large dark rosewood bookcase took up nearly the entire length of the wall, his back turned to the judge. The case was filled completely with leather bound books. RK started to thumb through the titles. Mehra stared at RK for a few seconds; Bittoji was on the edge of his seat trying to study Mehra's face. He clutched hard on the two cell phones that he held.
Mehra looked back at Bittoji, "Sending this jackass to jail will do no good. Last time he was let off with a heavy civil fine and he was required to pay for the property he damaged and that was a mistake letting his ass think money can buy and fix everything. The superstardom has gone directly to his head and has taken over any actual humane thoughts. Thinking that no matter what, he will get off scot free. Disgusting! Most people in his position and status indulge their free time being good role models for others. But all you know Mr. Rishabh Kundra is abuse and how to cause mayhem. That's all you are worth." Bittoji looked over at RK. He could see RK's hands forming into tight gapped fists. His breaths became heavy as RK gritted his teeth.
"Judge sab, what exactly are you saying?" Bittoji interjected, trying in some manner to change the situation before anything remotely ugly could occur.
Mehra relaxed his face and brought up his folded hands close to his chin. "It is my decision to sentence Mr. Rishabh Kundra to 300 hours of community service with suspension of his driver's license till said 300 hours are fully completed and approved. He will have a time limit of completing community service of 40 days starting with Day 1 as of today. There is a list of approved local no profit organizations by my receptionist's desk and Mr. Bittoji, I will require every single record of when Mr. Rishabh Kundra will be scheduled to do the work and I need notice if there is any change in schedule. I will be making rounds without notice to make sure he is actually working. Any time if I find he is not there, he will be automatically arrested and will be facing jail time for the possibility of 1-2 years." Mehra looked up at RK; he made no attempt to hide the condescending scorn on his face. The judge didn't have to see RK's face to understand how deeply RK's blood was boiling.
"So Mr. Rishabh Kundra, consider this your last chance and I suggest that this time you act more wisely unless you prefer to join the list of the Superstars of the Yesteryears. The people of this planet were not put here for you to mock and ridicule. This case is adjourned till the commencement of 40 days. Now get out of my office." Mehra said as he got up.
RK slammed the bookcase causing it to shake. H turned his head and stared directly into Mehra's eyes. The rage on his face was still evident, his lips curved into a smirk, taunting the judge's verdict. Sliding his hands into his jeans pockets, RK whistled as he left the room, slamming the door behind him causing the judges framed diplomas to jolt.
Nodding in disapprovement, Bittoji looked back at the judge, his head was still hung low from embarrassment.
"Judge sab, is there any other way out? 40 days, 300 hours. Chief has 2 projects he is midway through." Bittoji asked as he hoped for a long shot at leniency.
Mehra chuckled, "Be grateful I was this nice Bittoji. You promised me last time that this sort of behavior would end. You and your damn chief should have though thought of your actor's career and future before he was driving around, doing drugs and causing havoc and anarchy! NOW Bittoji, before I lose my patience even further and decide to convict your actor right now, get out of my office."
"Sorry Judge sab. I will get the list and keep you informed. RK will complete the 300 hours."
"Sure" Mehra chided, "Tell your superstar that if I find him under the influence of alcohol or drugs I will arrest him on the spot! Now LEAVE." Mehra said as he started to rub his forehead.
"Yes Judge sab, and don't worry it won't come to that. Good day." Bittoji said as he shut the office door behind him.
Mehra started to leave his office, but was stopped by a shine. Looking at his desk, he saw the coin that RK was playing with. The lines on his forehead scrunched together hard as he kicked his chair.
"Bittoji, by tomorrow I want you to figure out a solution this charity nonsense. I don't care how much it costs, who you have to pay, what you do, I want this problem fixed." RK said as he sat down on the couch.
"Chief, I can't pay anyone this time. There is no getting out of this. Judge Mehra said tha-"
"Judge Mehra can go straight to hell for all I care. That son of a @ deserves it!" RK shouted, standing up once again, "Did you hear the crap he said." RK fumed as the words left his mouth.
