I'm from an African country before I moved to the UK 13 years ago, spitting on people I've never come across it there, I have seen a lot of Indian's spitting though, we do have Indian's in Africa, which call themselves African's too, South African's, Malawian's, Zambian's Kenyan's etc they are Indian's but born in Africa, they spit a lot but not on people. So please don't say African custom I think it's Indian custom for spitting because they don't like saliva in their mouth!!!

If you were stalking the Sultan thread I did read one Sultanian saying about that spitting scene but she didn't say the person who spat was an African, she said when the person was leaving she spat on the hand to ward off evil spirits like I've seen on TV hindi shows they put the kala tikka behind the ear to ward off evil spirits.

I just went and did some google on spitting customs, according to them a person spitting on somebody shows their contempt in almost all the cultures.

So Madhu spitting on sultan's hand, she is showing her disgust & contempt. Not warding evil eye .

In South east countries spitting on somebody is showing disgust.

Such double standards these guys have.
