Taking the concept of eco-friendly fashion a step further, was a fashion show held recently in Goregaon. Conceptualised by Hindustan Tin Works Limited, the show that consisted of designs by fashion students of the Pearl Academy, New Delhi, was unique for their choice of material. They were made using tin cans and metal scrap.
"We used fashion as a medium to involve youngsters in our campaign for the environment and sustainability," explains Atit Bhatia, senior vice-president Hindustan Tin Works Limited.
"We wanted to spread the message that cans are 100 per cent recyclable and environment-friendly. Also, we tried to show that what is often considered scrap, can have an alternate and trendy use."
The show was part of a competition held at the fashion institute with the winning garment being worn by showstopper and TV actress Drashti Dhami, who also judged the creations. "Sustainability is the buzz word in fashion and other businesses. The students did a great job in making the outfits very wearable," adds Atit. The fashion show was part of the global Canvironment campaign.
